Fog ~ Mike ~ Picture of the Day ~ Ligers & Tigons ~ Mexican Style Corn on the Cob ~ Frank & Cindy Mize ~ National Corn Chip Day

Good 38º SUPER foggy cant'see the mountain or my gate morning.

Same thing in downtown Grants Pass...............

And here is the I-5 in Medford at Barnett Road...

Yesterday Mike came over to see what he can do to fix the water problem in the barn. He brought with him 1000 pounds of rock. Then he took a shovel and went behind the barn and started digging a trench. After he got the trench dug out he added in half of the rocks. Then he went to Ace and got the drain pipe to put in the trench. He will do that today.

Picture of the Day .... we grew up fast!

Interesting
The liger is the largest extant feline. It's a hybrid cross between a male lion and female tiger. As the two species don't naturally share the same habitat, ligers only occur in captivity.
Ligers will grow larger than either parent species, unlike the tigon, a cross between a male tiger and a female lion. They have traits from both parents. They enjoy swimming like tigers and are very sociable like lions. They have a faint tiger-like pattern upon a lion-like tawny background.

Male ligers reach a length of 3 - 3.6 meters (9-11 feet); larger than the biggest tiger species: the Siberian tiger, which is larger than any lion species. The liger, Hercules, is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, as the largest living cat on Earth. weighing it at 922 lb. Even at that weight, he isn't considered to be obese. He is healthy and is expected to live a long life. Ligers have lived into their 20's.
Unlike many hybrid species, ligers and other big cat hybrids have proven fertile. In September 2012 a cub named Kiara, was born of a liger mother and lion father at the Russian Novosibirsk Zoo.
Tigons, hybrids of a male tiger and and female lion, may grow as big as their parents.

However, they will not grow larger than their parents because of the growth-inhibitory gene received from their lioness mother. Like a male liger, a male tigon might grow a mane. However, the liger's or tigon's mane will be lighter and less noticeable than a pure bred lion's mane.

Mexican Style Corn on the Cob

1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
6 T. mayonnaise
6 hot cooked ears corn on the cob
1/4 t. chili powder
Sprinkle cheese onto a large plate.
Spread corn with mayo, roll in cheese until evenly coated.
Sprinkle with chili powder.
Grilled style.......
Soak corn in husks in enough water to completely cover corn for at least 2 hours. Drain. Grill over hot coals 20 minutes or so. Remove husks and silk and continue as above.

Today is the 42nd wedding anniversary of my super neighbors Frank & Cindy Mize. Unfortunately Cindy is very ill at the present time. Please send prayers for Cindy and the family. Here is their wedding picture. Love you guys!!!!

When he had given Mature an order and someone said, "Don't you know who that is??? It's Victor Mature!" Del's dad remarked, "Mature, manure, I don't care what his name is!"

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Tuesday. Ciao.

January 29th is a great day to enjoy a corn chip topped with salsa or a little cheese.  It is National Corn Chip Day.
The corn chip or friotes are not to be confused with the tortilla chip. Both are made from cornmeal which is baked or fried in oil.
Differing steps for processing the corn separate the tortilla from the corn chip. The corn for a tortilla chip is soaked in a lime-water solution that breaks down the hulls. This process creates a crisper, milder chip. A corn chip is sturdier with a stronger corn flavor. Both were popular snacks originating in Mexico.
There are two men credited with patenting and marketing the corn chip in the United States. First, Isador J. Filler often ate a tostada (a hard corn tortilla with toppings) while traveling in San Antonio, Texas as a salesman. He struck on the idea of making them in rectangles and marketing them as a chip. In 1932 he patented his concept.
Around the same time, Elmer Doolin was also traveling in San Antonio and was enjoying friotes. According to the story, he paid $100 for the recipe. Experimenting in his home until he created the ideal chip, Doolin then started selling them from the back of his Model T Ford. When he began mass producing them under the name of Frito Corn Chips, they were a hit.
In 1945, Doolin came to an agreement with Herman Lay (of potato chip fame) to distribute Doolin’s Fritos across the country. The two companies merged in 1959 after Doolin’s death.

LOL How ironic! I was munching on corn chips with my chicken sandwich and cottage cheese when I read it was National Corn Chip Day! LOL YUM!

I read about that Brenda shooter. Sounds like she needed hospitalization from an early age. That horrid father of hers should have been charged and locked up too as he denied the help she needed!

Prayers for your neighbor Cindy. Will add her to my prayer list.
