Good 36º dark raining morning.
On this day in 1997 Jerry and I bought this Oregon house.
We moved from Temple City in 1998... Jerry almost immediately bought this 1940 John Deere tractor...
He was a happy camper having all this property and being able to be a 'farmer'!!
This funny little house was built in 1935. A shack!
The foundation is so odd, big rocks with trees sitting atop the rocks and the house on top of the trees. Sort of like this:
No building codes back then. At least it's still standing and a lot of improvements have been made.
The people we bought it from (after a number of modifications) said when they first came to see the house the owners walked out the front door followed by a bunch of chickens!
Yesterday started dark and cloudy. Then we got some sun peeking through and a tad of blue sky for about 30 minutes. Happy Dude!!
Bruiser loves climbing up on the birdbath and drinking the water! Unfortunately he was already getting down when I got this picture!
According to the "Extreme weather alert" it said rain was going to start at 4pm yesterday and last through 4pm today. Well, unbelievable, the rain started here yesterday 4pm!!! As of this morning we have gotten 1¼" ! Creek is gonna flow soon!

Brooklyn Bridge construction 1933.
Interesting about the weirdo Ozzy Osbourne...
Ozzy Osbourne rose to prominence during the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Osbourne achieved infamy overnight after an incident on Jan. 20, 1982, in Des Moines, Iowa. During the height of his drug problem, Osbourne was performing when an audience member threw a bat onstage. The singer, believing it was rubber, bit its head off, only to find out the bat was real and alive. According to Osbourne, the bat was not only alive but managed to bite him, resulting in Osbourne being treated for rabies.
Scotch Cherry Cake
(not a picture of this recipe, but close. never took a picture of the cherry cake we made!)
This recipe was my grandmother's. Born in Glasgow Scotland, Isabel Dunbar Mills (we called her Nanno.) She made this every Christmas and I did for a lot of years also. One of our family's favorites!
3/4 pound butter
5 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 pound glazed cherries (half red and half green)
1/2 pound glazed pineapple
5 eggs
3/4 cup milk
small t. baking powder
Cream butter and sugar. Add well beaten eggs. Mix well. Add BP. Mix well. Put fruit into bowl with about 1/3 cup of the flour. Flour fruit well, so it's all separated.
Alternately add flour and milk to egg mixture, mixing well. Fold in the fruit. Place in two buttered loaf pans.
Bake 300º for about 1 1/2 hours, or until golden brown.
Test center of cake with a sharp thin knife. Will come out clean if baked long enough.

National Eat A Red Apple Day is observed annually on December 1.
As the adage goes, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” and today is a perfect time to put that theory to taste.
An apple is both delicious and nutritious. With over 7,500 varieties of apples and over 7.5% of the world’s production coming from the USA, apples are widely available.

I LOVE the history of your house. Long may it live. Have you ever thought of having the foundation retrofitted to modern standards?
Gerald thoroughly enjoyed touring Mark Twain's house on his last trip to Connecticut. He didn't often have time to enjoy the cultural activities of areas he worked.
We got a solid drenching this week. I should check the rain meter before it starts again.
No changes to this house. It stays as is. xo
That tractor brings back memories of my childhood down on the farm. MANY John Deere tractors like that on the Pipkin Farms as well as MCCormick Farmall red tractors.
Your house is adorable as is. Hope it remains good for years to come.
XO Trisha
Thanks T! xo
