Good 50º cloudy morning.

Yesterday the fog got a little heavier for a bit...

Then the sun came out and it was beautiful! We warmed to 70º.

Even in downtown Grants Pass you could see the mountains for a change! This from their downtown camera...

10-8 radio code for "in service" ... or as the guys/gals would say, "10-8, out the gate"......

Just FYI......
Today is Columbus Day and for many it's a holiday and that means some businesses will be closed including banks, schools, the post office, courts, libraries (although some will be open), and government offices will be closed.  UPS and FedEx will remain open. Also in Oregon state offices will be open, like DMV and some county and city offices. Make sure you check your local offices before heading out.

Joke of the day........... What do you get when you cross an elephant with a rhino?

Eleifino!  :o)

Picture of the Day......
If you are from Los Angeles you know about Olvera Street.... across from Union Station and the BEST Mexican food back in the day. Here is Olvera Street in 1952:

Interesting October 7th - 9th.....

This shared by friend Chuck Kuehl......
The odds look good for a spectacular Draconid meteor shower Oct 7th through 9th with peak viewing Monday evening.

Pumpkin Sheet Cake with Cream Cheese Icing

1 cup oil
1 egg
1 2/3 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
2 t. pumpkin pie spice
1 16oz can pumpkin
1 cup chopped pecans

Icing:
1 8oz pkg cream cheese at room temp
1 stick butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 t. vanilla

Beat together oil, sugar, and egg.
Stir in salt, pumpkin spice, baking soda, and flour.
Add pumpkin until well blended.
Fold in chopped pecans.
Pour into greased 10x15 jelly roll pan or I would use a 10x13 baking dish.
Bake 350º for 20-25 minutes.

While cake is baking, mix together the icing ingredients. Spread on warm cake.

Special birthday today..... Richard Fetterling (LASD ret.) is celebrating. HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICH!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Columbus Day Monday. Ciao.
xo Sue Mom Bobo

Columbus Day is an United States observance held each year on the second Monday in October.  The day signifies Christopher Columbus’ arrival to America on October 12, 1492.

HISTORY
Colorado first observed Columbus Day in 1906 as it became an official state holiday.  More and more people and states began to recognize Columbus Day.  In 1937, Columbus Day became a federal holiday in the United States.  There are many instances of people observing Columbus’ voyage since the colonial period.  In 1792, there were celebrations in New York City and other US cities, celebrating the 300th anniversary of his landing in the New World.  President Benjamin Harrison called upon the people of the United States to join together in celebration of Columbus Day on the 400th anniversary of the event.  During the anniversary in 1892, teachers, preachers, poets and politicians used Columbus Day rituals to teach ideals of patriotism.  These patriotic teachings were framed around themes of support for war, citizenship boundaries, the importance of loyalty to the nation and celebrating social progress.
In 1970,  Columbus Day was changed to the current observation on the second Monday in October.

Our schools are open today. Becky and the little ones have been here all weekend. Her office is closed today.

I love going to Olvera street. Mother and her friend used to take me there often for dinner. I always had just three crispy tacos. :) Still my favorite.
John and I keep saying we are going to catch Eric's train and ride up to LA and go to Olvera Street for lunch. We haven't done it because Eric wouldn't have time to go with us as he has only an hour for his lunch then he has to drive that train back to Oceanside.

Yes, Olvera Street was fun. I was addicted to their taquitos. Still love them! A train ride to LA would be fun. Good old Union Station! Thanks T. xo
