Leaning Tower of Niles Illinois, USA
Robert Ilg built this tower in 1934 as a part of a park for employees of the Ilg Hot Air Electric Ventilating Company of Chicago. It's half as large as its prototype but not less popular.
Tomato Pie
Once you have your crust this pie is as easy to make as slicing the tomatoes, mixing the rest of the ingredients and baking for a short while and it is so worth it! This tomato pie is just as good as it looks and as the ingredients suggest! I could barely wait for the pie to cool down before digging in and the slices are disappearing very quickly!
- 1 pie crust (make your own or use store bought!)
- 4 large tomatoes (sliced thickly)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup green onions (sliced)
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup cheddar cheese (grated)
- 1/4 cup bacon (sliced into 1 inch pieces and cooked)
- Place the tomato slices on the bottom of the pie shell in one or two layers and sprinkle with the sugar, pepper and green onions.
- Mix the mayonnaise, cheese and bacon and spread over the tomatoes.
- Bake in a preheated 400º oven until golden brown and bubbling, about 20-30 minutes.

Yesterday I took Tucker's birthday gift to Brian's office. Tucker wanted to go to In-N-Out with his pals for dinner, so no family get together scheduled yet. Brian had Dash at the office to I took Dude with me so they could visit!
Brian got a State Farm "sweater" for Dash!
Yesterday I posted Big Dude and Little Dude, so this is Big Dude and Little Dash!
After we left Brian's office I drove through the car wash. All shiny now!
For dinner I had found this rice so wanted to give it a try....
I cooked the rice in my rice cooker that has a steamer basket on top and in that I cooked the broccoli. Served my air fryer cooked Omaha Steaks filet mignon with the rice, broccoli, and chopped tomato. The rice was ok, but not terrific. Won't buy it again. The steak was AWESOME!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy TGIF. Ciao.

In the United States, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is observed annually on the third Friday in September.
Every year since 1989 by presidential proclamation, The United States remembers and honors those men and women of the Armed Forces who remain missing in action or who are prisoners of war. We are reminded as a nation to rededicate our efforts to bring our patriots home and to care for our military families awaiting word of their loved ones.
The POW/MIA Flag is flown this day over the Capitol, the White House, the Korean and Vietnam Veterans Memorials, the offices of the secretaries of State, Defense and Veterans Affairs, of the Selective Service System, and on the grounds or in the lobbies of every major military installation, every post office and all VA Medical Centers and national cemeteries.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Around the nation, events and ceremonies are held recognizing those who are POWs, MIA, and their families. Loved ones and supporters gather for candlelight vigils, walks and other events to show honor and support of their sacrifice. Join a service near you and show your support. Visit pow-miafamilies.org for more information.
Recognize the men and women who are POW and MIA. Remember them and bring them home. Use #POWMIARecognitionDay to post on social media.
HISTORY
National POW/MIA Recognition Day was established by an Act of Congress with the passage of Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act. This day is one of the six days that Federal Law requires the POW/MIA Flag be flown at all places designated by the U.S, Secretary of Defense.

Good morning.
I've been meaning to make a similar tomato pie recipe- with mozzarella. Maybe, vegetarian. Maybe today will be the day. Maybe may be my phrase of the day. I never would have guessed the editorial "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" was published during the height of heat. Lesson learned: plan ahead.
Rice mixes are generally not as good as freshly made- but I do use them.
Thank you for giving a nod to today's solemn remembrance. It wasn't Hogan's Heroes- although there was some fine comedy in that series. The Bridge over the River Kwai, The Railroad Man- these are probably more appropriate to remember the men who suffered and sacrificed for our freedom.
Yes, L, that pie would be good without any bacon, but the bacon just makes it! I'd also use mozzarella and cheddar! xo
I would probably enjoy that pie but I highly doubt my guys would.
Just this week I made Zatarain's Jambalaya with smoked sausage slice up. It was yummy and my guys really liked it. My family's favorite rice mix in a box is Rice a Roni. It's so yummy with everything but especially with fried chicken. :)
Dash is so adorable. Love his new sweater. :)
Your friend Barry looks so much like an actor from the olden days but can't remember his name.
XO Trisha
I will look into that jambalaya, T. I haven't had Rice a Roni in years. Yes, that Dash is something else! xo
