Interesting about Budweiser Beer....

  

Many know that European beers are commonly named after the town the brewery is located. For example, Pilsners are named after the town of Plzen and Licher is named after the German town of Lich; but many do not know that Budweiser is named after a beer brewed in Bömische Budweis breweries in a Czech town with the German name of Budweis. The name Budweiser is the locative meaning “of Budweis.”

In 1876, Adolphus Busch was inspired by the beer and took the recipe and the name halfway around the world to the good old U.S.A. The “Budweiser” brand was so popular that other brewing companies also made “Budweiser”. Some of these companies you may recognize are Miller, Schlitz and Dubois. Dubois was the last to stop making “Budweiser” in the late 1970s.

Budweiser sometimes bills itself as a vegan beer. That’s because no animal products are used in the beer.

In 2008, Anheuser-Busch had a market share in the United States of 50.9% for all beers sold. Budweiser brands account for about half of Anheuser-Busch's sales volume, a figure which has been steadily declining at ​1 ¹⁄₂–2% per year.

From Donna, The Slow Roasted Italian...Honestly, I may just start roasting it in the oven. It is crazy easy.  Sweet corn made even more fabulous by roasting in the oven.

 

• 8 ears corn, cleaned
• 1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter, room temperature
• kosher salt, to taste
• fresh ground black pepper, to taste

1. Preheat oven to 400°.  Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
2. Place corn on baking sheet.  Reserve about 1/2 of the butter.  Spread remaining butter on the whole ear of corn.  Sprinkle liberally with salt and pepper (I use about 1 teaspoon of each).
3. Bake for 30-45 minutes, until starting to brown.  Turn corn occasionally. Remove from oven and spread remaining butter over the top of the corn.  Sprinkle with more pepper as desired.
4. Serve and enjoy!

DONNA'S NOTES

1. We also love to add a dash of cayenne pepper.  The best way to do that is to place 4 tablespoons butter in a small dish.  Add desired  amount of cayenne pepper and mix together. Smear butter on corn and then continue with recipe.

National Teddy Bear Day is observed annually on September 9th.  We have all had a special cuddly teddy as a child.  Some of us still have our teddy bear from our childhood.  Whether or not you still have your childhood teddy, today is the perfect day to celebrate your childhood friend!

In 1902, American President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear cub while hunting in Mississippi.  This incident made national news. Clifford Berryman published a cartoon of the event in the Washington Post on November 16th, 1902.  The caricature became an instant classic.

This cartoon by Clifford Berryman’s published in a 1902 Washington Post inspired the Teddy bear.

The Berryman cartoon of Teddy Roosevelt and the cub inspired New York store owner Morris Michtom to create a new toy.  Morris Michtom wrote President Roosevelt to ask permission to name the new toy a “Teddy Bear”.

National Wiener Schnitzel Day is observed annually on September 9. A traditional Austrian dish, Wiener Schnitzel is made with veal.

A law in Austria requires this dish to made strictly with veal. Wiener Schnitzel is made by tenderizing a thin slice of veal which is then lightly salted and breaded.  It is then deep-fried in clarified butter.  The term “Wiener Schnitzel” was first used in the early 1830s, though similar recipes appear earlier.

Wiener Schnitzel is traditionally served with lettuce salad, cucumber salad, or potato salad. Some people serve it with parsley potatoes. A slice of lemon may also be served with the schnitzel. Rice, roasted or mashed potatoes and French fries have also become popular side dishes to Wiener Schnitzel lately.

Variations of the dish exist in many cultures throughout the world including making it with pork rather than the traditional veal.
