Clouds/Radar ~ Picture of the Day ~ Ostriches ~ Creamy Crock Pot Mac & Cheese ~ Moon Mullen ~ Sunset ~ National Great American Pot Pie Day

Good 44º a few clouds morning and officially the first day of Fall!

Yesterday the clouds stayed around....

Had a note from Chuck at the coast, they got rain. Of course we didn't. Karen, over in Grants Pass, said she had some sprinkles in the afternoon at her house, but it was more of a tease! Here is the way the rain was going....

And nationally........

Because of the cloud cover by noon we were only at 68º and by later in the afternoon we were only at 72º.

Interesting about Ostriches

All flying birds have four toes on each foot – part of the reason is to grab prey/food better.
All flightless birds have three toes on each foot. All the other members of the same family the ostrich belongs to also have three toes on each foot. This family is called the ratitae which includes the Emu, Kiwi and cassowary.
The ostrich or common ostrich (Struthio camelus) is either of two species of large flightless birds native to Africa, the only living member(s) of the genus Struthio, which is in the ratite family. In 2014, the Somali ostrich(Struthio molybdophanes) was recognized as a distinct species.
The ostrich is so unique that you can not even compare them to their own family since they are the only birds in the world with two toes on each leg.

One very big toe to carry the weight of the bird and a small toe for balance.  Ostriches weigh up to 396.83 pounds. They can run at speeds of up to 49.71mph This they achieve on just two toes! Ostriches are truly a unique and amazing animal– note the use of the word animal instead of birds.  They are birds but unlike any other bird in the world.

National Great American Pot Pie Day is observed annually on September 23rd.  A baked savory pie typically with both a bottom and a flaky top crust is often served to a hungry bunch.  Be it frozen, from a restaurant or home-made, it is sure to please those taste buds.
The filling of a pot pie varies from many different ingredients, some of which are beef, chicken, turkey, gravy, and seafood.   Many vegetables like potatoes, carrots, green beans, and peas are also popular choices.
HOW TO OBSERVE
To celebrate National Great American Pot Pie Day, enjoy a delicious pot pie.
HISTORY
National Great American Pot Pie Day was created in 2002 by the pot pie and frozen food company Marie Callender’s.

yum! We love pot pies in this house!

I will copy and make your Mac & Cheese recipe! :) Think I will add some stuff along with ground beef to make it a main dish.

Happy Birthday also to our friend Vickie Buhman!

I like Bruce Springsteen's music. Some quite a lot. But when he sings, is it just me, or does his face- how he squints- does it look like he's constipated?
