Clear Skies/No Smoke ~ Autumn ~ Surprise Lunch ~ I-5 Fire ~  Picture of the Day ~ Longest Metro Systems ~ Autumn Pasta Salad  ~ National No Rhyme (nor Reason) Day

Good 45º clear sunny no smoke morning.

Yesterday the clouds went away and it was BEAUTIFUL and clear....

Dude was a happy camper....keeping and eye on the gate!

In Grants Pass everyone was happy about the smoke free air too!

Autumn.... This is the third season of the year, when crops and fruits are gathered and leaves fall, in the northern hemisphere from September to November and in the southern hemisphere from March to May.

Yesterday I met up with Dee Yellin and Jeannie Patterson at my favorite Mexican restaurant, Taqueria La Guacamaya in Rogue River. It ended up a surprise. Soon Dale Yellin, Bill Patterson, Jennifer Murphy, and Mike Hannan showed up to celebrate my birthday (tomorrow) !!! What a good time we had. Margaritas all around!

The girl who runs the Waggin On Inn (kennel where I take Dude when I go away), Kathy Frykman stopped by our table as she was having lunch with friends. So, in the picture L-R Mike, Kathy, Me, Jeannie, Jennifer, Dee, Dale, and Bill.

The waitress put a sombrero on me, the 3 waitresses sang Happy Birthday, and gave us a dessert. So nice!

Thank you all for such a good time, good food, and good friends!!! xoxoxoxox

My lunch was a chicken and a pork tamale, rice and beans. YUMMMMMMMMY!!!!

Just as we were leaving the restaurant the power went off. I stopped at the vets on the way home for cat meds and they had no power either. Apparently all over town it was off. Thankfully the power was on at my house! There was a fire on I-5 at milepost 54 about 6 miles from Rogue River near Grants Pass. The traffic was a mess, with a lane closed and it took quite awhile for everyone to get home, since they all live in Grants Pass.... This from the news....

Picture of the Day....
Hi big kitty!

Interesting about the longest metro systems...

The 365 mile-long Shanghai Metro is to be found in Shanghai, China.
It tops the list of the longest rapid-transit rail systems in the world. The system opened in 1993. It operates both urban and suburban services to a total of 13 municipal districts. It is considered as the longest rapid-transit system by length of route with 14 lines, and second, after New York City Subway, by number of stations with 364 of them. Its has a 10 million rider-strong daily passenger count. The operators plan to add 4 more lines and connect to two other systems in Jiangsu province in coming years.
The top 5 list of the longest metro systems in the world:
1. Shaghai Metro, China (365 miles)

2. Beijing Subway, China (345 miles)

3. London Underground, United Kingdom (250)

4. New York City Subway, USA (235 miles)
And these are the pictures I took in 2008 when I was in the NY Subway...

5. Moscow Metro, Russia (210 miles)

So.......... since it's the first day of Autumn, here's a good Autumn Pasta Salad...

  • 1 (8-ounce) package elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup chopped cooked rotisserie chicken
  • 1 cup chopped apples
  • 1 cup chopped pears
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped candied walnuts
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

In a medium pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta to desired doneness; drain well and cool. (Rinse with cold water to cool quickly; drain well.)

In a large bowl, combine cooled pasta, the chicken, apples, pears, cranberries, celery, and candied walnuts; mix well.

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, maple syrup, vinegar, and salt; blend well. Pour mayonnaise mixture over pasta mixture; toss lightly then serve immediately.

Note

If you're not serving this salad immediately, you may want to wait to add the pears and walnuts just before serving, so they stay nice 'n' crunchy. You can also add an additional 1/4 cup mayonnaise to moisten the salad just before serving.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Saturday the first day of September! Ciao.
xo Sue Mom Bobo

September is filled with many reasons to celebrate and some of the celebrations have “no rhyme or reason”.
National No Rhyme (Nor Reason) Day, observed annually on September 1, actually celebrates words in the English language which do not rhyme with any other words.  Also known as refractory rhymes, these are words that poets try to avoid using in verse.
Some unrhymable words in the English language include:
  • Orange
  • Month
  • Silver
  • Spirit
  • Chimney
  • Purple
  • Woman
HOW TO OBSERVE
Make a list of words that you believe cannot be rhymed, and check if you are correct.

On the other hand, my name has words that rhyme...
Sue: blue, flu, grew, hue, few, new, rescue, value, issue, stew, you, statue, interview, blew, mew, debut, cuckoo, undue, skew, true, shoe, two, avenue, horseshoe, voodoo, bamboo, corkscrew, threw, zoo, woo, argue, dew (which is one of the nicknames Jerry gave me), menu, kangaroo, cashew, hairdo, Hebrew.... and a lot more.

As for Susan, there are a few. What about your name?

Don't you love how, as autumn arrives, the atmosphere changes to something more sublime than summer? The scents of the air are earthier, the light more golden as the sun slides in lower on the horizon.
