Rerun of Smoke ~ Bashkir Horses ~ Crock Pot Creamy Ranch Pork Chops ~ Picture of the Day ~ Phil & Suzanne Santisteven ~ Marley Thomas ~ Sneak Some Zucchini Into Your Neighbor's Porch Day

Good 58º smokey morning.

Yesterday was the same old same old with the smoke. It did back off a bit in the afternoon. Nice. Total containment of our fires here is said to be the end of this week. Warm and we topped at 100º.

Interesting.....
Not a usual horse but a curly haired one! Its body coat feels like velvet. Besides, Bashkir horse is hypoallergenic.

The Bashkir is the horse breed of the Bashkir people. It is raised mainly within Bashkortostan, a republic within the Russian Federation which lies in the southern Ural Mountains and westwards. The principal centre of breeding is the capital, Ufa.

The origins of the Bashkir horse are not known. In the nineteenth century its economic value was recognised, and steps were taken to increase both its working abilities and its traditional qualities as a producer of milk and meat. Breeding centres were set up in 1845.
The Bashkir horse has been crossed with other breeds of the former USSR such as the Russian Heavy Draught; experimental crosses with Kazakh and Yakut horses have also been made.
Bashkortostan has the third-highest horse population of the federal subjects of Russia, after the Altai Krai and the Sakha Republic. In 2003 the population of Bashkir horses was reported as 94,470.

The Bashkir is a small horse, standing about 14 hands; 56 inches at the withers. It is wide in the body and deep-chested, with a thoracic circumference (girth) averaging about 70 in; it has a large head and a short neck, low withers and a flat back. The legs are short with heavy bone; cannon bone diameter may reach  10 in. The commonest coat colors are baychestnut, mouse grey and roan. The mane and tail are thick and the coat is also thick and often curly. A two-year study published in 1990 found it unlikely that the North American Curly Horse, which also has a curly coat and may be called "American Bashkir Curly", descends from the Bashkir breed.
There are two distinct types of Bashkir horse: a smaller, lighter mountain type used mainly for riding, and a somewhat heavier steppe type.
The Bashkir horse is remarkably hardy. Herds are managed extensively, and remain in the open in winter in snow and blizzard conditions where temperatures may reach -40°.

Ultra creamy and tender, this easy recipe of crock pot ranch pork chops can make you fall in love with pork chops again (or give you a new way to love them!) Just mix a creamy base with a blend of herbs and layer it on top of boneless pork chops in a crock pot and you’ll be all set for an easy dinner!

  • 10.75 oz cream of mushroom soup (1 can)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/3 cup white wine or chicken broth
  • 4 to 6 boneless pork chops
  • Italian flat leaf parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)
  • Cooked rice or pasta, for serving
  1. In a medium bowl, add cream of mushroom, dried parsley, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, and black pepper. Use a hand mixer (or a spatula and some elbow grease) to mix the ingredients on LOW until only small clumps of cream cheese remain, about 2-4 minutes.
  2. Add white wine (or chicken broth) to bowl and gently fold in with the cream until absorbed, about another 2-4 minutes.
  3. Place pork chops in the bottom of a 6 quarts crock pot and arrange in an even layer. Pour ranch mixture on top and spread until the tops of the pork chops are covered.
  4. Cover crock pot and cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH for 4 hours.
  5. Serve pork chops on a bed of rice or pasta and garnish with parsley (optional).

Later early dinner was Omaha Steaks mini crab cakes and some green peas and a side of tartar sauce. Wine of course!

These crab cakes can be cooked from frozen in a 400º oven, but without heating the house I cooked them at 400º in the air fryer for 14 minutes and they were perfect. Drizzled with a touch of olive oil.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

Sneak Some Zucchini Into Your Neighbor’s Porch Day is celebrated on August 8.
Did you know that zucchini was a fruit?  Well, if you’re a gardener, you know this fact already.  You also know that zucchini grows in abundance and is ready for harvest in August.  Zucchini growers also know that one plant of zucchini allows you to share this wonderful treat!
Zucchini is also incredibly helpful with weight loss. Because it is low in calories, high in fiber and full of water. As such, when you eat it your tummy is not empty feeling, meaning your are less likely to overeat. A quick tip is to sprinkle shredded zucchini over salads and soups for an easy way to eat fresh.

I laughed at it being Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day. This year, I would have to buy the veggie into compliance.

What a funny sign!

The Bhashkir's coat - I can't decide if I love it or if it is too high maintenance. If I ever move to a land of really cold winters- I would consider one. There is no better soil amendment than rotted horse manure.

Yes, that's quite a coat on those horses! xo
