Water ~ Picture of the Day ~ Morton Salt Girl ~ Cheesy Vegetable Frittata ~ Another Near Miss At The Road ~  National Anisette Day

Good 47º clear sunny morning. Yesterday we got some wind but we topped at 95º.

Re the water situation I haven't heard back yet from my plumber. Let's hope he calls soon! All I wanted to do yesterday was take a shower and wash dishes! The frustration is getting worse!

Interesting.....

The Morton Salt Girl is the official mascot of Morton Salt. She was introduced in 1914 and can be seen holding an umbrella and a pouring salt container, referring to the company's slogan "When it rains, it pours" (referring to how Morton Salt stays free-flowing even in rainy weather after they began adding magnesium carbonate as an absorbing agent to their table salt in 1911 so it poured freely). The Morton Salt Girl, also known as the Umbrella Girl has become one of the longest-running and most recognizable brand mascots in U.S. history.

This easy, cheesy frittata is perfect for breakfast, dinner, or brunch. Add a side of breakfast potatoes or a little salad for a well-rounded meal. You're sure to impress all of your guests with this delicious dish!

  • 10 large eggs
  •
    1/2 cup heavy cream
  •
    1/3 cup whole milk
  •
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  •
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  •
    1/2 teaspoon salt

  •
    2 tablespoons butter
  •
4 ounces cream cheese, cut into small cubes
  •
    4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
  •
    1/2 cup roasted red peppers
  •
    1 cup broccoli florets

  •

Preheat the oven to 400º. Carefully crack the eggs into a medium-large bowl and whisk eggs until well beaten and frothy, about two minutes by hand.

In a large ovenproof skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once it's completely melted add egg mixture to skillet. Quickly layer the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, roasted red peppers, and broccoli on top of the eggs. Cook for four minutes over medium heat without stirring or moving the eggs in any way, then carefully transfer the skillet to the preheated oven.
Bake until the top is golden brown and the frittata is set, about 35 minutes. Cool for five minutes, then cut and serve warm.

Later yesterday I took the trash down to the trashcan at the road. Looks like a near miss, where a car went off the road and down into the ditch just inches past our driveway!! I had heard there was a DUI wreck on our road, but had no idea it was right at our driveway! Fortunately our mailboxes weren't hit (again!).

BTW, the bright sign is a neighbor's for his yard sale over the weekend. From the looks of what they are selling it looks like they are probably going to move! I don't know them very well. The house is a "cabin" right down at the main road and a mess and a rental!

Dinner was some of Schwans Crispy Breaded Cod Nuggets with ranch dressing and sweet hot chili sauce for dipping and some green beans. YUMMMM-O

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.

On July 2nd we observe National Anisette Day.   Anisette is an anise-flavored liqueur that is made by distilling aniseed and sometimes adding a sugar syrup.  Anisette is popular in Spain, Italy, Portugal and France.
Pure Anisette should not be drunk straight as its alcoholic content is high enough to cause irritation to the throat. However, mixing it in with coffee, gin, bourbon or water will bring out a bit of a sweet flavor. To enjoy this sweetness without drinking, you can make Anisette cookies!
If you are one to grab all of the black jelly beans at Easter, you will surely enjoy this day and the drink that makes it unique, Anisette. Although Anisette does not contain licorice, it does have that sort of distinct flavor.
HOW TO OBSERVE
To celebrate, mix some anisette into a favorite drink to enhance the sweetness. You can also make anisette cookies.
