Smoke ~ Particulate Respirator Mask ~ Fire in Grants Pass Area ~ My Picture ~ Picture of the Day ~ President Nixon Calls the Moon ~ Crock Pot Catalina Chicken Thighs ~ Jon Harting ~ Linda Kuehl ~ Bruiser ~ National Parents Day

Good 47º dark super smokey morning. No sun coming through the smoke! Yesterday we topped at 95º in the late afternoon.

Going outside is dangerous with all the smoke and ash. I bought these last year when we had a huge fire in Josephine County and needed them. Now, again this year!

As of Friday the fire in the Josephine County area, Taylor Creek Fire, has my friends Jennifer and Mike on level 2 evacuation alert. They are on Pickett Creek Road and the evacuations were a few miles from them on West Pickett Creek Road

This is the fire on the mountain above where they live...

Yesterday I talked to Jennifer and she says with all the watering Mike is doing and with the sprinklers on the roof, they are not leaving their house.

I was outside and these helicopters flew over. They are part of the fire fighting crew.

Also, there were a couple turkey vultures in flight.....

On the news last night a meteorologist is at the fire camp in Merlin and was charting the weather for the fire fighters. He talked about a storm coming in tonight and showed this photo of mine!!!

Picture of the Day...

On July 20,1969 President Richard Nixon made the first phone to Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the moon.
That ultimate long-distance call, via telephone-to-radio transmission, happened at 11:49 pm in the Oval Office. Nixon began by saying, "Hello, Neil and Buzz. I am talking to you by telephone from the Oval Office of the White House. And this certainly has to be the most historic telephone calls ever made. I just can't tell you how proud we are of what you have done."
Here is a video of that call.....

Crock Pot Catalina Chicken Thighs
Servings3 -4 servings

1 pound boneless skinless chicken thighs
3/4 cup Catalina dressing
1 cup pineapple chunks
1/4 cup of the juice from the can of pineapple
2 cups prepared rice
  1. Place your chicken in the bottom of your crock pot
  2. Pour your dressing on top
  3. Top with your pineapple chunks
  4. Pour your pineapple juice on top
  5. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or high for 1.5-2 hours
  6. Serve over a bed of rice with the sauce ladled over the top
  • With the shortened cooking time, the outside of the chicken is more of a pink than a red. Be sure and use your meat thermometer so you know when your chicken has reached the perfect internal temperature.
  • If you need more than 3-4 servings, feel free to double or triple up this recipe. You will just need to adjust the size of your crock pot and your cooking time.
  • If your grocery store doesn’t have Catalina dressing, never fear! You can pick up some California French dressing instead. It will work great as well!

Bruiser has a few favorite spots...one is on top of my printer and fax (that's why the towel!)

And of course he likes to get right on my desk in my face. From there he has a view of outside ..... that he watches intently!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Sunday. Ciao.
xo Sue Mom Bobo

National Parents’ Day honors all parents on the fourth Sunday in July.
In May we celebrated mothers, and in June we celebrated fathers.  It follows that in July we can bring all our parents together and show them some appreciation all at once.  Parents play a vital role in the lives of children. From the day we are born, parents are our protectors, teachers, providers and role models.  As families, they are the core of our communities.  On National Parents’ Day, we honor all parents do every day to raise up their children in a world that is constantly changing and challenging.
HOW TO OBSERVE
Spend some time with your parents or visit someone who was like a parent to you.  Post on social media using #NationalParentsDay and encourage others to join in.
HISTORY
National Parents’ Day was established in 1994 when President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional Resolution into Law  (36 U.S.C. § 135) for: recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children.”  The bill was introduced by Republican Senator Trent Lott.

Prayers up for your friends in harm's way.

Isn't it funny how cats love to get on the computer, printer, etc. I wonder why that is?? Edda is always complaining about her cat doing that.

I feel so awful about those fires up there and Jennifer's house being in danger. Been in that position several times so I know what she's feeling. Prayers for them and everyone in harms way.

Good for you to get your photo on the news again. We need to pray for rain up there!

John and I have always taught our boys to have good manners and now Matthew. I hope they remember. :)

Thanks ladies for the prayers. More roads in that fire area being closed. They don't think that fire will be contained until August 7th! OMG. xo

Dearest Happy Happy Happy - This is your favorite reader! I totally agree with your writings on the difference of respect, etc., that you mentioned. I hope those dang fires STOP all over the place! Enuff is enuff! My last company sold heat treating furnaces to "John Deere" as well as many, many others. Prayers to everyone who's on the "edge" right now.
