Interesting about tomatoes....

The tomato is the edible, often red, fruit/berry of the plant Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomato plant. The plant belongs to the nightshade family, Solanaceae. The species originated in western South America. The Nahuatl (Aztec language) word tomatl gave rise to the Spanish word "tomate", from which the English word tomato derived. Its use as a cultivated food may have originated with the indigenous peoples of México. The Spanish discovered the tomato from their contact with the Aztec peoples during the Spanish colonization of the Americas, then brought it to Europe, and, from there, to other parts of the European colonized world during the 16th century.

Tomato is consumed in diverse ways, including raw, as an ingredient in many dishes, sauces, salads, and drinks. While tomatoes are botanically berry-type fruits, they are considered culinary vegetables as an ingredient or side dish for savory meals. Numerous varieties of tomato are widely grown in temperate climates across the world, with greenhouses allowing its production throughout the year. The plants typically grow to 3–10 ft in height and have a weak stem that sprawls. It is a perennial in its native habitat, and cultivated as an annual. Fruit size varies according to cultivar, with a width range of 0.5–4 inches.

For a number of years I have made my uncle's recipe for pickled green tomatoes. Awesome in a martini! With a tad of the pickle juice as well!

UNCLE LLOYD'S GREEN TOMATO PICKLES

Pack small, firm green tomatoes (cut in half or can be left whole if real small) in sterilized jars.
Combine:
2 quarts of water
1 quart of white vinegar
1 cup salt
Boil this for 5 minutes. To each jar add 2 T. dill seed, 2 red peppers, & 2 cloves of garlic. Add the hot liquid and seal with sterilized lids.
This process takes a while for the jars to seal as they cool, but if you put them in a water bath the tomatoes get soft. This way they stay crunchy.
I make mine with quartered green tomatoes, lots of garlic cloves, and peeled baby carrots. Brian likes just the peeled garlic cloves! I buy them already peeled in a large container at Costco. I don't put in dill seed and I like to use jalapeño peppers.

Yesterday was my annual skin doctor visit. Everything is good!

Then off to the market for groceries. I bought the fixins' for the Peanut Butter Cream Cheese pie! Will make that probably today.

Dinner was reruns of the salmon patties and yams and an ear of corn, slathered with mayonnaise and sprinkled with Lawry's Garlic Salt and some bacon salt.
(J&D Salt  https://baconsalt.3dcartstores.com/ ...or you can purchase it through amazon.)

OMGOOOOD!!!

Then chair, wine, and TV.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

Each June 13 honors those who would like to cook and be in the kitchen, but it just doesn’t seem to work well for them.  After all, it is National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day.
Klutz:  most commonly referred to as a clumsy person.
These are the people who set out with the intentions of Paula Dean or Julia Child as the open up the cookbook.  Setting out the mixing bowl and ingredients, they imagine knife cuts as swift as Wolfgang Puck or Bobby Flay.  However, reality quickly dissolves all those dreams as smoke billows from the oven and salt is mistaken for sugar.  Those knife cuts become bloody, and cookies and fingers are burnt.  The Kitchen Klutz has struck, and visions of spilled milk are pitifully cried over.
It may be necessary to keep a first aid kit and fire extinguisher handy when Kitchen Klutzes are around.  Be ready to call 911 and your favorite take out if you’re still hungry.
