Good 51º smokey morning. UGH.

Yesterday the smoke came in again and it was STINKY! ....    we topped at 88.5º

This is the sweetest thing... a little kitten and it's new best friend..

I wrote the following to the Oregon Dept of Forestry and the US Department of Forestry and sent a copy to President Trump... This note was inspired by my pal Karen and her son Senator Baertschiger:

 

The Chetco Bar Fire was reported to US Forestry at 1/4 of an acre, with helicopters on standby, to put it out with a few buckets of water.

The US Forestry decided to "let it burn" in the middle of the fire season, with 100º+ weather and no rain in sight until Fall. 

We have now lost in excess of 102,000 areas of forest, a number of homes, lives put in danger, and millions of dollars in cost to have all the fire fighters on scene, and some from out of state, and the National Guard backing up the firemen and police. Also yesterday a level 1 evacuation alert was issued for the town of Brookings Oregon, largest town on the Oregon coast.... !!!! WHY hasn't there been retardant drops on this???

This is a super poor management call on the part of the US Forest Department AND our Governor! Someone has to be held accountable and policies changed!

US Forestry never learned a lesson from the Biscuit fire. Many health issues developed because of the heavy smoke we have endured for the last few weeks.

I sincerely hope someone takes notice. Your department should have NO say so over fires in our state, even thought the land has been deemed US Federal land!

This recipe from Mr. Food got me drooling. It would be perfect with hamburgers or barbecued steak...

Ingredients:

4-5 large baking potatoes, washed

16oz container of sour cream

5 green onions sliced, tops and bottoms

2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

1/2 stick butter, melted

1 t. salt

½ t. pepper

5 strips of bacon, cooked and crumbled (or bacon bits)

1. Preheat oven to 350º. Coat 3 qt. casserole with cooking spray.

2. Bake potatoes 1 hour, or until fork tender. Cool at room temperature about 15 minutes.

3. Cut potatoes into ½-inch cubes and place in large bowl.

4. Add remaining ingredients and toss gently until mixed well. Put into casserole dish.

5. Bake 30-35 minutes, or until warm in center.

National Dog Day

National Dog Day has two goals: to honor dogs, and to rescue dogs from homelessness and abuse. It's an opportunity for us to recognize and appreciate the value and importance of dogs in our lives.

This day is intended to honor dogs for all that they do for us. In addition to giving love and companionship, dogs help us out in countless ways. They are watchdogs for our safety. They lead the blind. Dogs aid in search and rescue, and they seek out bombs and drugs.

The second goal of National Dog Day is to rescue dogs in need. On occasion, dogs need us to save them from homelessness and abuse. The goal of the National Dog Day foundation is to rescue 10,000 dogs a year. Lend a hand to help a dog in need today, or any day.
