Good 54º clear sunny Throw Back Thursday.

Yesterday the predictions were for triple digit, we hit 94º.

Mike from All Natural Pest came in the morning to check the bait boxes.

He went down by the barn to check one of them

and Dude went running in the upper pasture by the pump house....

Unfortunately we now have fields full of tar weed and Dude came back smelling like it!

Tar weed has sticky leaves, yellow flowers, and a very strong scent.

I was watching an Hawaii Five-0 segment and they went back to 1940 when the police arrived at a location...

On the porch of this house was this doll......

This is the same doll I got for Christmas in 1950. She was made to look like one of the Dionne quintuplets, born in 1934...

Later dinner was Air Fryer cooked marinated (Omaha Steaks) salmon filet and some Schwans green beans steamed in the microwave, and an ear of corn slathered with mayo and Trader Joes 21 Seasoning Salute.  

I saw something that appeared to be a puppy, but it turned out to be a new little fawn. It went around to the back of the house and down into the creek....

A little later it was in the front yard with the mom. I really wondered how it got inside the fence!

Wondered if it could get out, so I snuck around to the front yard side gate to open it and mom darted along with baby right over the grapevine fence into the pasture! Wow, baby deer can jump!

National French Fries Day

One wonders why it is called a "National" day, as french fries are popular around the world. It should be called an "International" day.

It's name might suggest a French origin. But, French Fries are believed to have originated in Belgium in the 17th century.  Fried potatoes were substituted in the Belgium diet in winter months, when fish were not available to fry. From Europe, their popularity spread literally around the world.

French fries were introduced to the U.S. by President Thomas Jefferson. In the U.S., french fries are the most popular fast food item. Some of us get a burger, while others get a hot dog. Some people choose a chicken sandwich, while others opt for a steak bomber. But, almost every one of these dishes are served with a side order of french fries. 

High in fiber, you can enjoy eating french fries anywhere in the world. When traveling, be prepared to place your order in the native language:

In the U.S., they're called french fries.

In Belgium, they are known as "Belgium Fries".

The French call them "pomme frites".

In the UK, ask for an order of "Chips".

In Spain, they are called "patatas fritas".

Folks in some countries call them "finger chips"

They are also known as "Flemish Fries"
