Memorial Day ~ "My" Marines ~ Lemon Bundt Cake ~ Indy 500 ~ National Memorial Day Concert

Good 46º Memorial Day morning.

This short video is about Memorial Day and Freedom Isn't Free. Wonderfully done. Thanks Rich Steinhurst (LASD ret) and Dewayne Preimsberger (LASD ret) for sharing.....

Thank you to "my Marines"... Jerry, Brian, and my Italian son Alex Corsaro for their service to our country!
Jerry was not only a Marine, but he also served in the California National Guard. (yes, cigar and all!)

Thank you to my Daddy for his US Navy service in WWI, to my brothers-in-law, Bill Plumbridge & Joe Mueller, for their Navy and Army service, to my nephews Bob & Jim Plumbridge for their Navy service and my friends.... Andy Nantz, Greg Lundell, Jim Harper, Dale Yellin, Joe Kirk, Dan Patz, Jon Austin, Terry Bonyea, Mike Centofante, Don Davies, Sally Harwell, Lynn Helbing, Moon Mullen, Mel Nix, Spike Dammer, Ben Hunt, Rod Johnson, Gabe Ramirez, Ron Wisberger, Lynn Crowell, George Hill, Norm Spencer, Gar Austin, Moon Mullin, Jim Pierce, and our Rogue Valley Marine Corps League members. Thank you all!

Historically this date.... if you are interested, go here:

Yesterday I took Dude for his run to the road to put out the trash cans. I was then going to mow the front and back yards, but didn't have any gas for the lawnmower! Dang. So I watered instead.

Then I made one of my favorite cakes, lemon bundt cake. Almost like a pound cake. Dense because I use the Duncan Hines cake mix (my fav), instant lemon pudding, 3 eggs, 1/3 cup avocado oil (any vegetable oil works), and 1 cup water. Follow directions on cake mix box.... and bake

Then I made the cucumber salsa.....recipe tomorrow....

The 100th Indianapolis 500 was won by a rookie and a California boy, Alexander Rossi. Over 300 thousand there at the raceway to see the race! Spectacular.

The post race show was fun. History about the race and the cars and cameos by some of my favorite racers... Rick Mears and AJ Foyt. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Then I watched the PBS National Memorial Day Concert from the Capitol Mall in DC. Hosted by Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna with the Beach Boys (sigh http://www.pbs.org/national-memorial-day-concert/features/performers/the-beach-boys/ ) GREAT show!!!!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.

Memorial Day
(Our Rogue River Depot Street Bridge)

Memorial Day is officially celebrated on the last Monday during the month of May. Memorial Day is dedicated to service men and women who gave their lives for freedom and country. It is also a time to remember loved ones who have passed away. The roots of Memorial Day observance, goes back to 1865 and the end of the Civil War.

Memorial Day was traditionally held on the 30th of May. In 1971, Congress changed it to the last Monday, in order to afford a three day holiday weekend. Regardless of the date, we encourage you follow Memorial Day tradition: attend a parade, and visit a cemetery to honor and remember our serviceman. Take time to remember lost loved ones in whatever way you feel appropriate.

Did you Know? Memorial Day was first called Decoration Day. It was changed to Memorial Day in 1882.

Memorial Day also marks the beginning of the gardening and summer seasons, even though summer will not occur until a few weeks later. This day usually includes the first family picnic of the year.
