Good 37º clear sunny morning. Not much radar
around today...
In the morning yesterday it was quite cool. After
I got up I put the freshly cleaned down comforter back on the bed. Got cold in
the night! Boy was I happy about that last night! So was Bruiser and Dude!!!
Yesterday Bruiser was happy playing in the boxes from my
UPS shipments...
Later I went into Grants Pass. Interesting
clouds, fluffy and white on top, flat and dark on the bottom....
I had taken a written request for blood work from
my cardiologist, the yearly thing, and my regular doctor had sent a request in
from Medford for a potassium level test. Well, they only did the one
cholesterol, etc test. I kept asking if the potassium test came back, but the
doctor's office said 'no'. They found the request yesterday after I raised heck!
Ok, that done. Then to Safeway for shopping. This Bulldog was in the car I
parked next to... too cute, had to take his picture:
Don't worry, the engine was on, the AC on, and
his mom was in the truck.
Had fun. Bought goodies that I will be cooking
with soon, along with the regular stuff.... tomatoes, corn on the cob,
broccoli/cauliflower/carrots stir fry mixture, wine, cat treats, yogurt, and
others.... I was in the meat department, bought some ground turkey and some
chorizo. Thought I'd make some turkey/chorizo meatballs or meatloaf. One of the
butchers walked out and looked in my cart. Asked what I bought. I told him. He
made a face when I said "chorizo". I asked why, didn't he like it. He said "no".
I said, aren't you Mexican? He laughed, no he's Puerto Rican! He said their food
is totally different from Mexican food. He said he's never eaten chips and
salsa. His mom is coming to visit and will be cooking Puerto Rican food for him
for a week. He was in Heaven! LOL. Fun talking to him. Now I have to research
Puerto Rican food!!!
Then home....
I got home and The Bruise ran in the door... and I found him
here..
That was about 1:30 and we had some sprinkles at
that time. YES! About 3:30 Jennifer's Mike called to see if I was going to
Grants Pass for the 1st Friday thingy they do. I said I wasn't. Stayin' home. He
said it had been raining good in GP.
Whoooooo hoooooo.... 4pm THUNDER AND RAIN!!!!
Only a few sprinkles here though! Dang. Here is
the radar map at that time...

I always
loved his movies. Haven't seen him in anything lately tho. My favorite was Mr.
Mom.
Later it was my chair, some leftovers, wine, and TV. Really exciting around here! It was so cold I contemplated turning on the heater or putting a fire in the wood stove! Then the sun came down lower and shown through the glass doors and it warmed up! I did have my electric chair blanket on!!!
This morning I put Dude's boneless skinless
chicken thighs and chicken stock in the casserole Crock*Pot and there were a
couple of small ones I put in my mini Crock*Pot with some of Trader Joe's garlic
cooking sauce.
I will add in some carrots later and some
cabbage. Hmmm, oh, and probably an onion or some shallots.
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Saturday.

The History Of
Pizza
The history of
pizza as we know it is relatively recent, given how old flat breads and cheese
are in man’s cuisine. As far back as 8000 B.C.E., man knew how to mix flour with
water into dough, season it with herbs and heat it on a hot
stone to create a flat bread (see the history of bread). The earliest cheesemaking began about 5500 B.C.E. The pizza, if it is
defined as baked flat bread covered with cheese, could have been invented by the
Greeks, the Phoenicians, the people who would become the Romans or anyone in the
greater Mediterranean area of the
time.
In fact, while we
think of pizza as a quintessential Italian food, food historians credit the idea of using bread as a
“plate” for an assortment of toppings and seasonings to the Greeks, who ate flat
round bread (plankuntos), topped by stews, thick broth, meats,
vegetables and fruits. Just as it is today, it was a thrifty, convenient and
tasty meal for the working man and his family, requiring no additional plates or
utensils. One can think of pizza originating as an “edible plate”—a true convenience food. (Injera, the Ethiopian
flatbread, is still used for this purpose and is a mainstay of Ethiopian
cuisine—most dishes are prepared as toppers for injera.)
With the constant
traffic between the worlds of Greece and Rome, plankuntos made its way to what is now Italy, where it
became known as pizza. The word “pizza” may have derived from the Latin word
“pinsa,” which means flatbread. Pizza became popular street food, sold from
open-air stands by vendors, typically young boys who would walk around the city
with small tin stoves on their heads, calling out to “hawk their wares” to
customers. The pizzas of the time were simple but tasty, topped with olive oil
and fresh herbs, not unlike focaccia. Sometimes,
some grated sheep’s cheese was added. Pizza was still food for the poor, but
soon became a tourist

Puerto Rican food- Rice, beans and bananas. Lots of fish, pollo (chicken) and pork. As my mom was born on the island, not coming stateside until after the first of her degrees, that I would know more about it. What I remember most was how happy she was on special occasions to serve a banana cooked in butter, with brown sugar melted alongside.
The latest Michael Keane movie- The Unintended Virtue of Ignorance- from all we could tell- unless you are a Hollywood careerist or want to see Michael Keane in his underwear- was a waste of time and talent. I don't think it made the 10 minute mark until it was flipped off.
Going to look up some Puerto Rican recipes. Bananas? Wow. As for Michael Keaton, I had not even heard of that movie you mentioned! xo
Last week my friend Felicia said she had some Puerto Rican food delivered. I asked her what that was like. She said if I have ever had Carib. food it was similar. So yes I said I have had Cuban food many times and she said yes it's like that. Lots of plantains, rice and beans. There's a dish she mentioned that starts with an "M". I told Deb and she knew of it right away. When we were in San Juan we ate on the ship but John and Kevin ate wings at Hooters! LOL Doubt that was Puerto Rican.
Speaking of Michael Keaton, I loved him as Batman! :)

Raquel Welsh is a few years older than I am. She was on The Huckabee Show once and she swore she has never had any "work done". Amazingly beautiful!
As for William Devane, I get soooo tired of his "gold" commercials!:(
