Good 51º clear sunny morning.
Here's yesterday's update on the Stouts Fire
If you like cats... this is hilarious. Had no
idea!
Bruiser laid on my arm on my desk and loved it!
My Mom was born 110 years ago today.
Margaret Mills Laney. She was the NICEST and most
GENTILE woman ever! (Sure didn't take after her, did I? LOL) She was born in
Cleveland Ohio in 1905 (d. 1994) to immigrant Scottish parents. Born in her
aunt's home next door to Bob Hope's home.... her little cousins played with Bob
Hope. Happy Birthday Mom. You are sooooooo missed every single day. I love
you.
Holding me...
With Kristen and Brian.....
Breakfast yesterday was some of Harry and David's Caramel Pecan coffee. I
ground the beans and just added in some sugar free vanilla coffee creamer.
HEAVEN!!!
Then I had some yogurt and blueberries.....
I had posted some time ago about washing fruit with vinegar when you bring
it home. Then rinse with water. I did that with the blueberries, and my how they
have lasted without getting bad!
On the news last night, Haggan is closing up 27 of their stores ... 1 in
Grants Pass!
Whaaaaaa?????? They took over Albertsons and now are closing? Their prices
are too high. Didn't they have a clue??? We have 2 in Grants Pass, if they close
1 aren't they going to end up closing the other? They are closing the 2 in
Klamath Falls. Big empty stores now. Lost jobs. Sick. Piss poor planning on someone's part!
Historically this date.....
1914 – A male servant of American architect Frank Lloyd
Wright sets fire to
the living quarters of the architect's Wisconsin home, Taliesin, murders
seven people and burns the living quarters to the ground.
.......... he
was definitely and interesting man. I love his architecture! Click on the word
"Taliesin" and read the fascinating story of that home.... his second wife and
her murder. His 'winter home' he built in Scottsdale AZ and called it Taliesin
West. I would love to go there and see it. Some day. Scottsdale is a very neat
place!
1935 – Will
Rogers and Wiley
Post are killed
after their aircraft develops engine problems during takeoff in Barrow,
Alaska.
1945 – World War II: Japan
surrenders to end the
war.
.... this is
neat.... my Mom's birthday is on the surrender date and my birthday is on the
peace treaty signing date!
1965 – The
Beatles play to
nearly 60,000 fans
at Shea Stadium in New York
City, in an event later seen as marking the birth of stadium
rock.
1969 – The Woodstock
Music and Art Festival opens
1971 – President Richard
Nixon completes
the break from the gold
standard by endingconvertibility of the United States
dollar into gold by
foreign investors.
1974 – Yuk
Young-soo, First
Lady of South
Korea, is killed during an apparent assassination attempt
upon President of South
Korea, Park
Chung-hee.
..... Man oh
man, can you imagine your name being "Yuk"!
"Ewwwwww,
Yuk", "What?" "I think since you are little I'll call you Yukkie!"
LOL
And births
this date include....
1912 – Julia
Child, American cook and TV personality (d.
2004)
... .and
played by Meryl Streep..... she was soooo good!
1923 – Rose
Marie, American actress
1925 – Mike
Connors, American actor
.... Wow,
still kicking... lives in Encino, born in Fresno, went to UCLA. Married to same
woman since 1949!!
1968 – Debra
Messing, American actress
1972 – Ben
Affleck, American actor
Went into Grants Pass and stopped at Brian's office to drop off some
things.. his requested goodies from Harry & David...
Then it was wine and snacks with pals Nancy, PJ, Micol, and Jennifer at
Rosso's Trattoria in Grants Pass.
Our chow... (sorry, fuzzy. had my tiny camera, not the good one!) mine was
a spinach artichoke pie (SOOOOO GOOD), Micol's a shrimp salad, Jennifer's an
eggplant salad, and PJ had clams & linguini.
I had some of their tomato basil soup. OMGOOOOOD!!! Hearty! Going back for
more of that!
Nancy didn't want "lunch" so she had tiramisu... We all had a taste...
YUMMY!
Good to visit with the girls. Nice.
Then to the car wash..
Came home, sorted pictures, and was done for the day. Only 84º yesterday.
Beats any day over 90º!! Lots of clouds out there too.... it was really
beautiful. This the drive home.....
Oregon feline just named world's oldest living
cat!
Meet Corduroy, the world's oldest living cat. This Oregonian just turned
26, which equals out to approximately 121 human years!
He was confirmed the world's title, a coveted spot that was previously held
by Tiffany Two, who lived to be 27 years, 2 months, and 20 days.
Corduroy's owner, Ashely Reed Okura, chocks up his extreme longevity to a
healthy lifestyle. "The secret has been allowing him to be a cat, hunting and
getting plenty of love. Growing up on 160 acres in Oregon, I allow Corduroy to
roam the ranch freely, so he always gets lots of exercise."
He is very much like my Harley, who lived to be 22 years old... Harley had
shorter hair!
Last evening Mr. Buck was out in the pasture... took these through dining
room window... grapevines in the way...
All I know. Happy Saturday. Nuff said. Ciao.

We have a new Haggen Market here in DB. They took over the Vons store. I am thinking they aren't real smart. They opened just months before we got our new Walmart Neighborhood Market about a mile away. I have never been in a Haggen but from what people have told me their prices are high! Not good planning on their part!
Speaking of names, if my name had been "Messing" I would have changed it! lol
Interesting read on F.L. Wright's home.
Good to hear about that old kitty because sounds like your Bruiser is leading the same kind of life.
You girls do find the neatest places to gather for yummy food! Fun!
Happy Birthday to your Momma!
XO Trisha
There are a lot of people out there with weird names, if mine I would change too! Yes, T, that cat is pretty healthy looking for his age!! Thanks for the birthday wishes for Mom. xoxo
My favorite pie is whatever slice is in front of me. Except for coconut. Just not fond of texture/ taste.
That was a pretty massive buyout by Haggen. Perhaps they over-extended- or the shrinkage could be attributed to leases being up. It is very common to purchase in bulk- then spin off underperforming assets.
Our town could support both Wal-Mart and Haggen- people don't go to one to purchase what we do in the other. But Haggen has not merchandised or advertised their product niche very well. Purple carrots and high quality heirloom tomatoes. There is a reason they charge more- but it isn't apparent.
You use your Magic Bullet to grind coffee? Really?? Anything special I need to know before I do that?
GS
GS, I fill the container half way with the beans and run it until the coffee is smooth... or you can run it less so it's not so fine. Works GREAT! ox
You are a wealth of tips, my dear. Never thought of using it for that! Tks!
