Good 40º clear morning. Was 80º yesterday and supposed to top that today.

After the 1986 Chernobyl accident, an exclusion zone was setup 18 miles around the plant where radiation was too high.

Today, due to little human interference, the area is home to many animals like Przewalski's horses, deer, foxes and brown bears.

Recently, a group of RFE/RL Ukrainian Service journalists came across a wild fox in the zone and recorded their interaction.

The group offered the fox food and witnessed the animal make a multi-layer sandwich -- before walking away with the sandwich intact.

Yesterday Tim and his dad, Dana Alden came over. Tim has a leather shop in Rogue River ( http://www.aldenleatherworks.com/ ) He and his family have been doing leather work for years. Tim also holds leather making classes. Anyway, he picked up a couple of leather sewing machines Jerry had and a leather belt stripper.

Put them in their horse trailer. We also got out all the gun forms that Jerry used to make holsters. There are over 200 of them. They are aluminum. When a holster is made for a specific type of gun, the holster is wet and the form pushed into the holster until it dries. That way the holster takes on the shape of the gun.

Tim thinks a guy up north is interested in buying them. YES!!!!

While in the barn rummaging around I found an old trophy I won ...

Then for dinner I cooked some quinoa (1¼ cups) and black rice (¼ cup) in the rice cooker with a bit of olive oil (about 3T) and a sprinkle of sea salt......

I chopped up some mushrooms, red bell pepper, zucchini, and yellow squash...

I sauteéd the veggies in olive oil and when the rice/quinoa was done I mixed them all together. OMGOOOOOD!!!!!

While in the kitchen I saw this quail sitting on the gate..

And the hummingbirds attacking the feeder.....

Next, up the road comes Dave with my riding lawnmower, all fixed!!! Now for the mowing................... ugh.

National Chocolate Parfait Day

1 (1.4-oz.) package chocolate instant pudding mix

2 cups milk

1/2 cup sour cream

1 (8-oz.) container frozen whipped topping, thawed and divided

3/4 cup chocolate graham cracker crumbs (4 cracker sheets)

1 tablespoon freshly grated chocolate

Whisk together first 3 ingredients in a bowl until blended and smooth. Fold in 1 1/2 cups whipped topping.

Spoon 1 Tbsp. crumbs into each of 6 (4-oz.) glasses, and top with 1/3 cup pudding mixture. Repeat layers with remaining crumbs and pudding mixture. Top each parfait evenly with remaining whipped topping and grated chocolate. Cover and chill at least 1 hour.

(Use fat-free sugar-free pudding mix, 1% milk, light sour cream, and fat-free whipped topping for an equal or better taste and less calories)
