My friend Linda Rohrbaugh said it looks like a mouse on Bruiser's nose with
it's tail going down towards his mouth.
Monday I made a pizza....Didn't know it was National Pizza Day!
The History Of Pizza
The history of pizza as we know it is relatively
recent, given how old flat breads and cheese are in man’s cuisine. As far back
as 8000 B.C.E., man knew how to mix flour with water into dough, season it with
herbs and heat it on a hot stone to create a flat bread (see the history of bread). The earliest cheesemaking
began about 5500 B.C.E. The pizza, if it is defined as baked flat bread covered
with cheese, could have been invented by the Greeks, the Phoenicians, the people
who would become the Romans or anyone in the greater Mediterranean area of the time.
In fact, while we think of pizza as a quintessential
Italian food, food historians credit the idea of using bread as a “plate” for an
assortment of toppings and seasonings to the Greeks, who ate flat round bread
(plankuntos), topped by stews, thick broth, meats, vegetables and
fruits. Just as it is today, it was a thrifty, convenient and tasty meal for the
working man and his family, requiring no additional plates or utensils. One can
think of pizza originating as an “edible plate”—a true convenience food.
(Injera, the Ethiopian flatbread, is still used
for this purpose and is a mainstay of Ethiopian cuisine—most dishes are prepared
as toppers for injera.)
With the constant traffic between the worlds of
Greece and Rome, plankuntos made its way to what is now Italy, where it
became known as pizza. The word “pizza” may have derived from the Latin word
“pinsa,” which means flatbread. Pizza became popular street food, sold from
open-air stands by vendors, typically young boys who would walk around the city
with small tin stoves on their heads, calling out to “hawk their wares” to
customers. The pizzas of the time were simple but tasty, topped with olive oil
and fresh herbs, not unlike focaccia. Sometimes, some grated sheep’s cheese
was added. Pizza was still food for the poor, but soon became a tourist
attraction.
Ok, so on my pizza....
olives, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, re-hydrated green beans, cocktail
shrimp (from the USA.. the only ones I could find. The rest from Asia or So.
America!) rehydrated spinach, Ragu Creamy Tomato sauce, and mozzarella
cheese.
I mixed the shrimp, artichoke hearts, olives, mushrooms, spinach and green
beans into the sauce. Then topped the pizza crust and added the cheese....
It was REALLY good but I used too much sauce. Will cut in half next time.
That Creamy Tomato sauce is great! Yesterday I scooped off the toppings and set
them in a strainer. Then used it to top another crust and cooked it crunchy. It
was WAYYYYY better.
I got my new camera lens... a 1150-600 mm. I will tell about that tomorrow
with critter photos.
I also watched the Grammy's. ICK. May comment on that tomorrow too. Picked
up my computer from Turk yesterday afternoon early. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy to
have Hal back! He did a super good job and fast too! See, Turk, I said you were
fast! LOL.
Nuff said. All I know. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

WELCOME BACK! Dogs and blankets- such a cute subject. Remember the Burt Reynolds pinup? I had the Bullwinkle moose parody in my college apartment):-
I'm holding back on the Uma Thurman because she has no discernible eye make up and her hair appears to be freshly straightened- her natural coloring is bland- we'll see how the look settles in after a couple months.
Yes I do remember the Burt pinup. I got a copy from my girlfriend, Sandy, when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. Enjoyed looking at it!!!
WELCOME BACK!! I really missed the blog! Did you get a Turk lecture? lol
Love the doggie/blanket video. So cute!
OMG What happened to Tina Louise? That girl needs to EAT something!
Yesterday was pizza day here. My sickies (John John & Matthew) order pizza and chicken wings.
Poor Leah and Jordon. Hope that tree didn't do any damage to the house.
XO Trisha
Good to see you back up and runnin' Sue !! p.j.
Thanks PJ and T! T, I didn't get a lecture, but he said it was really messed up. Google Chrome is a big screw up.
Leah said there was no damage, just a mess to clean up. xo
glad your back! we missed you, xxoo Chuck and Linda
I never really liked Uma and now I hate her! I taped the Grammys and only watched a little bit. Missed the part where Kanye West made an ass out of himself--again! And I eat my pizza with only sausage or pepperoni and cheese. I don't like a bunch of toppings! If it wasn't so cold out now, real feel 29 deg., I'd pop out and grab a slice because I'm hankering for one now. The dog videos were cute. I ended up watching a bunch of other ones, the puppies. And, yes, that is a mouse on Bruiser's face, LOL. Later. Vivia
