Free Stuff ~ Joe Kirk ~ The Orchid Grill ~ Crab Stuffed Trout

Good 51º drizzly morning. So far we've gotten 1 and 8/10" ... looking for more.. if not today then tomorrow and lasting for a week! Well, that's what the weather people say.

 

The other day I got rid of a bunch of old cameras, film, flash bulbs... even an old Polaroid ... I put them in a box down on the road. People up here are soooooooooooo odd, they will pick up anything on the road!

The next day when I was leaving the box was gone! What a surprise. I set a broken ice chest down there once and it was gone!

 

A special friend is having birthday today ..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE KIRK~! (LASD ret Lakewood, Avalon) I hope you have a GREAT day!!!!!

Yesterday Nancy and I went to lunch at a place neither of us had been to before... The Orchid Grill. It's a Hawaiian themed restaurant at 1330 NW 6th St Grants Pass.

It's in the Village Square....

Very charming...

We each had the Chicken Teriyaki Wrap with pineapple. YUMMMMMMY! The French fries were probably the BEST ever! Sooooooooooooo crispy. I loved them!

The girls were so nice. They even brought us one of their cheesecakes (for free!) .. they buy the cheesecake from a local bakery and caramelize it there and add a pineapple sauce.

They have a variety of beer and wine and a number of "Hawaiian" cocktails. 

 

While we were sitting there, in walks Billi (former bartendress at the Elk's Lodge). So great to see her! We hugged and chatted. We made a future date for lunch with the 'girls'.

 

Here's one of my concoctions from a few years back:

Got the trout from Dave Perry after one of his fishing trips... (Nancy's hubby)

First I mixed canned crab (from Costco... in refrigerated section) with stuffing and mayonnaise. I cut the spine bones out of the fish and stuffed each one. Then I put them on the George Foreman Grill and drizzled some olive oil over all. Cooked until nicely browned. AWESOME!

Thank A Mailman Day

Thank a Mailman Day is your chance to say thanks to the guy, or gal, who delivers your mail. After all, they are there six days a week. The reliable postal worker is always there doing their job, regardless of the weather. They are a hardy lot. You'll find some mail carriers on walking routes, wearing shorts in all but the coldest of winter days.

Did you Know? Pony Express riders were the most famous early American "mailmen". Their motto was " Neither rain, nor snow, nor death of the night, can keep us from our duty". This motto is believed to be taken in part from a motto dating back to ancient times. Among the most popular variation is "Through rain or snow, or sleet or hail, we'll carry the mail. We will not fail".

Make it a point to catch your mail carrier enroute today. Give him or her a great big smile and a great big "TY".  If you happen to visit your local post office, give them a thank you, too.
