Good 38º foggy morning. Fog never lifted yesterday. Gloom....
Our Congressman, and my friend, Greg Walden, championed a bill to help
Veterans! GO GREG!!!! It passed the House unanimously!
“With the new Congress in session this
week, we’ve already passed bills to grow jobs, provide opportunities for our
veterans, and protect small businesses from some of the worst abuses of
Obamacare.”
Today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (L.E.A.D.). In light of recent
negative activity directed toward the law enforcement community, we need to show
law enforcement officers that we recognize the difficult and sometimes
impossible career they have.
Each day 900,000 police officers across the country put on a badge and go
to work knowing they may face extremely dangerous situations or they may not
come home. On the average, a law enforcement officer is killed in the line of
duty every 58 hours! More than 50,000 officers are assaulted, and more than
15,000 are injured in the line of duty every year. There are few other
professions in the world where you find these kinds of statistics.
If you see a law enforcement officer, say 'thank you'.
Yesterday I was feelin' puny. Was going to go to Grants Pass but decided a
fire in the wood stove and maybe making chicken or vegetable soup would be
better. Decided on miso soup with some re-hydrated spinach. Good and hot and
comforting..
Tried and experiment with my new casserole CrockPot.. Cut a yam in half
lengthwise, sprinkled on some garlic sea salt. Put about 1" of water in the
CrockPot and the yam and cooked on low for 4 hours. Perfect! SO SO yummy I
gobbled the whole thing down!!! Making another one today!
For those of you who relish the one California season of Hollywood Patting
Itself On the Back.... Here's the schedule...
The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.
Ladies.....Quit Laughing !
Thanks Lynn Helbing for this .... back
in 2012! Still FUN!!!

January 9th
National Apricot Day (Whaaaaa???)
January
9th is National Apricot Day. Not sure why, since apricot season in the U.S. is
from May through August (any fresh apricots found in the winter months have made
a long trip from the southern hemisphere).
Yet,
you can toast the day with an apricot brandy
sour, have apricot jam on your toast or sandwich (cream cheese, goat cheese,
ham, turkey), make a pork roast with dried apricots, or use the jam as filling
in a Sacher
Torte.

Thank you on the information on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Maybe I can drop off a tray of goodies for whomever is at the local desk.
Thanks for alerting us about LEAD. I copied that pic and your words and will post on my FB page.
Thanks also for the awards schedule. I love to half watch those to see the gowns. Some are outrageous and some are gorgeous.
Funny pic of Bruiser the penguin! :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICHARD NIXON! One of my FB friends who is very conservative has a little girl about three now and her name is Nixon.
