Yesterday I looked out back and there were a number of Jake turkeys (young
males) and a couple of hens with their chicks... The Jakes scared away the
chicks!
And then I noticed a momma deer and her two fawns out in the pasture. They
ran to the fence and mom jumped over it. Then they spent some time trying to
figure out how to get to mom... one did go through the fence and was nursing. I
was worried about the other, but he/she finally got with mom! Whew!!!!Worry
worry worry....
When we were at the Elks for wine on Tuesday Dee gave us all, since we are
SOW (Southern Oregon Winos) Sistas these neat wine glass key chains...
I love it Dee!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Yesterday was the LE/Fire Luncheon out at the Golf Club, but I was feeling
lousy so I didn't go. Everyone that went had a good time, but from the small
turn out I'm guessing a lot of folks are away. Of course it didn't help that the
guy who has taken over sending out emails re date/time/location of the luncheons
had a computer glitch along with a brain fart and said the lunch was Wednesday
July 4th. Then his computer took over and sent out 82 of those beauties to each
of us! He never did send a retraction re date so I wouldn't be surprised of some
folks show up at the Golf Club tomorrow! I sent him a note and asked if he had been looking at a June calendar. He called and said, yes he was! LOL
I hope everyone has a GREAT 4th. I always look forward to the Boston Pops
Concert and fireworks in the evening, but read where it will probably
be canceled due to the weather back there in Boston! Hurricane Arthur is reeking
havoc.

July 3rd
National Eat Beans Day
3/4 pound bacon
1 pound ground beef
2 large onions, chopped
1 (18 ounce) bottle honey barbecue
sauce
4 (15 ounce) cans pork and beans
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed
and drained
1 (15 ounce) can lima beans, rinsed and drained
|
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and
drained
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon liquid smoke flavoring
(optional)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black
pepper
|
Place the bacon in a large, deep skillet, and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain the bacon slices on a paper towel-lined plate. Let cool, and crumble.
Place the ground beef and onions into a large skillet over medium heat, and cook and stir until the meat is no longer pink, breaking the meat apart as it cooks, about 10 minutes. Drain excess grease. Transfer the beef and onion mixture into a large Dutch oven (or crockpot). Stir in the crumbled bacon, honey barbecue sauce, pork and beans, kidney beans, lima beans, black beans, brown sugar, cider vinegar, liquid smoke, salt, and pepper.
Cover, and bake in the preheated 350º oven until bubbling, about 1 hour or in the crockpot and cook on low 6 hours. |

What adorable deer you have! Glad they got to their momma. Yes, worry is right!
I love your key chain! How nice of her to give you all one. Cute!
Do they not hold a fireworks show near you?
Have a good one!!
XO Trisha
Yes, the deer are really neat! There is a fireworks show from the fairgrounds in Grants Pass, and lucky for Brian and family they can see it from their house. They sit way up on a hill. As for me, I stay home and keep and eye out re the forest that surrounds me! Have a good weekend! xo
Happy Independence Day Sue... Love the deer and turkeys... we have wild turkeys here in our valley and had to stop on the way home from the grocery store to let a new "family" of turkeys "cross the road". (Gary & I got quite a giggle out of that one.) Thank you for the bean recipe, I've written it down and plan to make this one also. You've got GOOD stuff on here..!!
Thanks Vanette. I hope you have a wonderful 4th also! Fun seeing the critters out and about. We're always stopping here on the road for the turkeys too. xo
