Tap Rock Easter Brunch Smilebox ~ Straight Up Deviled Eggs ~ Wizard of Oz ~ Patriots Day

Good 45º cloudy pressure dropping morning. Natch, I wanted to do yard work! So now it's gonna rain. Not only that, but got my car washed yesterday...so it will rain for sure!

Yesterday I met up with Grandma Jean at Brian and Jen's house. Jen was going to fix brunch, but changed her mind and we all went to Tap Rock for their Easter Buffet Brunch. It was so good and such a beautiful day. I was still good re my diet and had the apple sausage, scrambled eggs, leafy greens, melon, strawberries, grapes, and one little cheese blintz! Oh, and a mimosa! YUMMMM! The buffet had EVERYTHING... ham, prime rib, bacon, potato salad, macaroni salad, French toast, and a slew of other stuff. Mouth watering..... also cakes and breakfast pastries. Sigh...
Sami and Tucker road with me. So, after taking them home and they finished up their egg hunting getting ready to go to another egg hunt at friends I drove through the car wash (surprised it was open on Easter! Thanks Bri.) and got the old girl clean and shiny after the dust/leaves/bloom blowing wind and rain on Saturday at Tucker's baseball game!

Got home, took trash to road and put up my election signs.

Sandra Lee's Straight Up Deviled Eggs

1 doz eggs, hard boiled and cooled/drained
1/4  cup mayonnaise or plain yogurt
1 T spicy brown mustard
1 t lemon juice
2 t sweet pickle relish
1 t paprika
2 T chopped chives
2 T bacon bits or crumbled bacon, for garnish
Peel the eggs and slice a small piece of the bottom off so they will stand upright. Slice the top third off each egg and save the tops. Carefully remove the egg yolks with a small spoon and put them in a medium size bowl. Break up the yolks with a potato masher. Add all the remaining ingredients except bacon and chives. Mix well until smooth.
Transfer mixture to a zip bag, cutting off the corner of the bag and pipe the filling into each egg. Sprinkle each with chopped chives and bacon bits. Cover with egg tops and arrange on platter.

Last night I watched The Wizard of Oz...  Such an interesting film. Judy Garland was such a pretty girl. Loved that little Toto who followed along everywhere...

Terry and the MGM film

In the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, Toto was played by a female brindle Cairn Terrier whose real name was Terry. She was paid a $125 salary each week, which was far more than many of the human actors (the Singer Midgets who played the Munchkins reportedly received $50 to $100 a week).
During production, Terry's foot was broken when one of the Winkie guards accidentally stepped on it. A second dog had to be used while she healed. Due to the popularity of the movie, and because that role was the one she was most remembered for, her owner and trainer changed her official name to Toto. She actually appeared in 13 different films.[1] She died at age 10 or 11. Willard Carroll wrote her "autobiography," I, Toto (2001).
On June 18, 2011 a permanent memorial for Terry was dedicated at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.[2] When she died in 1945 Carl Spitz buried her on his ranch in Studio City, CA. However, the construction of the Ventura Freeway in 1958 destroyed her grave.

Patriots Day
Date When Celebrated: Third Monday in April
Some people know little or nothing about Patriot's Day. To New Englander's, it is a big, big day. In the states in New England, it's a holiday with a day off of work. Banks, schools, post offices, and businesses have the day off.
Patriot's Day commemorates the Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. This battle began the American Revolutionary War. It also honors the "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere", that evening when Paul Revere rode through town warning the colonists that  "The Red Coats are coming!"

More Information:
There are many more local Patriot Day celebrations, held on various different dates. But, among the many Patriot's Days, the New England celebration is the "biggie".
.... and of course the Boston Marathon is today.... They're off!

LOL- Found the original Cinderella- TiVo-d it.

I wonder if the eggs stand up because the wide bottoms are also cut for stable platform? I knew a food stylist who told me crazy photo tricks- like gluing devilled eggs to the plates to have them hold at exactly the right angle.

I love your Smilebox photos. Thank you for sharing.

I like to make my deviled eggs "up" also, but cut them in half, shave a bit off the pointy end, and they stand up no problem.

You KNOW you brought on the rain getting your car washed!!
