Yesterday I met
Jennifer Murphy (aka Kitchen Company employee with FLAIR!) at Musashi in Grants Pass, for lunch.
Miyamoto Musashi was a fabled warrior that lived in Japan at the beginning of the 17th Century. After making a name for himself at the battle of Sekigahara in 1600, he established himself as a master duelist, one that was never defeated. But the restaurant in Grants Pass is not a venue for dueling. It's claim to fame is FOOD! Good Japanese food!
Tim, the sushi
chef, is funny and so nice. Born in Japan to a father who was
in the US military. He even went to Rogue River High School!
We had a GREAT time
chatting with him and then some other guests who arrived, the owner of Applegate
Lodge, in Applegate Oregon. Interesting. He and his lodge will be on
Hell's Kitchen with Chef Gordon Ramsey in February 2014. Lunch for Jennifer was
a concoction that I couldn't begin to tell you what it was, but it was
GOOD!
Then she had a
"cooked tuna with spices and "Japanese mayonnaise" or Kewpie Mayonnaise.. a
sweeter version of plain mayo, "..... "Kewpie Mayonnaise is THE mayonnaise of Japan. First made in 1925. Kewpie has a
richer, creamier flavor than your usual mayonnaise due to its exclusive use of
egg yolks and a mix of apple and malt vinegars and sugar." YUMMMMM....
I had a
sashimi/sushi plate.... salmon, tuna, taco (octopus), and a California roll!
We had a GREAT time, GREAT food,
and a good chatty visit!
Then I headed over
to Brian's office. My iPad was acting up and he fixed it! Naturally. He is my IT-go-to-guy! (He was IT for Penske Auto Group, after all!) (Not to say you aren't Turk! But I also wanted a visit with my son!)
Home to my
critters. Nice day. Got to 69º. Dinner was another concoction... Ravioli and
broccoli and some dried garlic and onion, simmered til the ravioli was done.
Drain off water. Add the drained tomatoes and the cheesy simmer sauce.... heat through...
EXCELLENT!!!

Interesting story on the Japanese restaurant. One very good change in the world is the spread of international cuisine.
NICE birthday list. I've rerun Le Miserable so many times this month to hear Jackman and Redmayne sing, I think the cable company cut the sound to give Gerry a break.
