Good 35º morning.
"10-17" ... 'pick up papers'
'1017' was also Brian's USMC Boot Camp Platoon
number.
Yesterday was "girls day" and 4 of us went
to the movies....
Dee, Jeannie, Nancy and I. We saw "Enough
Said". In the very beginning, the previews came on... there were the 4 of us,
one older lady way up in the back, and three women down in front of us. Packed!
The previews were SO LOUD we had to cover our ears!! Some of the movies coming
out look like TRASH! One in particular with Jennifer Hudson and her singing was
SOOOOOOOOO LOUD it hurt my ears! GAWD it was like fingernails on a
blackboard!
Anyway, the movie wasn't that loud. I did go back to the
employee at the front of the theater and asked him if they could turn down the
sound. He said yes. Better.
Dee sorta liked it ... Jeannie got emotional at one
mother/daughter scene, we all chuckled a few times, Nancy and I basically didn't
like it.
Too s-l-o-w moving ... not enough laughter, and the
"bedroom scenes" were icky! Sorry, thumbs down from me. Sad, because I liked Gandolfini and like Julia. Too bad this was his last movie!
In the movie they were eating and drinking wine and that
was all I could think about... getting out of that theater and having a glass of
wine to help forget about the agonizing 2 hours in that place! So, we went to
Rosso's.
We had wine and some artichoke/spinach dip with bread.
YUMMM! And we did a bunch of gabbing! We did see Jennifer, as her
workplace, The Kitchen Company is a few doors away. She stopped in to say hi and
give us a bad time for doing this on her work day, not her day off! Sorry
Jen!
Home and not in the mood to cook....dinner was
popcorn!

Today is also an old high school pal's birthday... HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE GEON! Wilson 1964. Steve is also retired LAPD. Hope you have a great day Steve!
Today was my daughter in law Jennifer's dad's birthday. I can see Harry's smile and know he's celebrating up there in Heaven. xo
I was going to tell you about the gadget I bought at Kitchen
Company the other day... a Garlic Twist. Really neat. It will mince garlic,
ginger, and a variety of other things, simply, and easily with easy cleanup. I
found this page with a video about it...
Thanks Jeannie...this was some of the birthday $ you gave me!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Thursday. Ciao.

National Pasta Day (Ohhhhhhhh GOODIE!)
Ravioli, tortellini, spaghetti, penne: Pasta
takes many shapes and sizes. Do you have a favorite? Mine is Angel Hair, but I
do love most any kind!
Here are a few of the mysterious pasta shapes and
sauces that you have seen before but were too afraid to ask
about...
Agnolotti: These are
half-moon shaped pasta that look like ravioli. They come from the Piedmont
region of Italy and can be filled with cheese or meat.
Bolognese: This tomato based sauce is made with ground meat and pancetta. It has a soffritto base made with celery, carrots and onions that are cooked in olive oil or butter.
Bucatini: Long and thin like spaghetti, bucatini look like straws made out of pasta. This pasta is usually served in Rome “alla amatriciana.” This simple sauce is made with pork, tomato and pecorino cheese.
Cannelloni: Often confused with manicotti, cannelloni are pre-formed tubes that are stuffed with a meat or cheese filling, topped with sauce, and then baked.
Carbonara: This delicious and decadent cream based sauce is usually made with pancetta, cheese, eggs and pork. It’s often tossed with spaghetti, rigatoni or bucatini.
Genovese: What we know as pesto sauce, genovese type sauces are not cooked. Typically made with basil, garlic, olive oil and pine nuts, many chefs have been substituting nuts or herbs to create different variations.
Pastina: Meaning “little pasta,” pastina is the smallest pasta form made. It is shaped as tiny little stars and is often used in soups.
Puttanesca: This southern italian sauce is a spicy and salty dish made with olives, capers, anchovies, chili peppers, tomatoes and garlic.
Ragu: A ragu is any meat-based sauce. A bolognese sauce is an example of a ragu.
Tagliatelle: Commonly served with Bolognese sauce, tagliatelle are a much longer and wider version of fettuccine.
