Good 36º morning. Fog lifted yesterday and the sun came
out! Hopefully the same today. Stayed cool, but nice.
"10-10" .... out of vehicle, subject to
call....
LOL, looks like he's holding the invisible handle of the
yellow guy-wire! or a Star Wars Light Sword!
That ought to take care of the bad guys!
Yesterday Jake (electrician) came by. He
surveyed the job I asked him to do... fix the one barn light and put two lights
on the roof facing the front so I can see out there at night. With the light
gone from the tree that was taken down out front I have been living in darkness
outside. I can't see who I am shooting at! (LOL)
Then Martin (pronounced Marteen) came over, with his two
cutie pie dogs... Chihuahuas ... one part dachshund! Her name is Lily. Can't remember the other's name.... Roaldo? Something like that....
He trimmed up the grape vines, apple tree, and stacked
wood on the porch for me. YES! Great job!
The fence was overgrown with grapevines and even
the gate. He trimmed up the apple tree and took the apples over in the field by
the house and left them for the deer. They will be happy!
I had to laugh, as every time Martin would carry
a load of vines to the burn pile, his doggies were right behind
him!
Got some burning to do now!
Then Jake came back and installed the lights on the
front of the house. SO GREAT to be able to see out there now when it's
dark!
Jake coming back today to fix the barn
light....
This came from my friend Ann Ramirez (LASD ret)

A year ago today Alex Karras passed away.
A great football player, a funny man, good actor. His
older brothers, Lou (a future member of the Redskins) and Ted (who later played
with the Bears and Lions), had played at Purdue but later Ted transferred to
Indiana. Because of this, Alex said, "Indiana had the inside track" on
recruiting him, but shortly after he graduated from high school, several coaches
from the University of Iowa took Karras to secluded Spence Iowa, to keep him
away from rival recruiters. There they persuaded him to sign with the
Hawkeyes.Karras was drafted in the first round of the NFL
draft by the Detroit
Lions in 1958. He quickly became one of the
dominant defensive tackles in the NFL, playing
for 12 seasons (1958-1962, 1964-1970)Karras was called an "iron man" since he
missed only one game due to injury in his 12 NFL seasons and his 161 games
played are the 15th most in Lions history. He made the Pro Bowl four times, and
the Hall of Fame named him a member of the 1960s All-Decade team.
In his later years, Karras suffered several serious health problems, including dementia, heart disease, and cancer. Karras was among 3,500 former NFL players to have filed lawsuits against the NFL in early 2012, over the long-term damage caused by concussions and repeated hits to the head.
On October 8, 2012, it was revealed by friend Tom McInerney that Karras had suffered from kidney failure; doctors gave him a few days to live. Karras was treated at the Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, California, before being released into hospice care. After returning to his Los Angeles home with family, Karras died in the morning hours of October 10 from complications caused by kidney failure
