Good 49º somewhat cloudy morning.
Nice sleeping cooler last night! Looks like it will be in the
80º's and then the 90º's and by my BFF Jeannie's birthday it is supposed to be
108º !!!! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat??????? Geeze Louise!
Wow, didn't get too hot yesterday. Stayed about 75º and cool
inside with a breeze coming in through the windows. I even put on a warm long
sleeved shirt! Nice. About 3pm Jeannie said the rain was coming down hard and
lots of thunder in Grants Pass. We got all of 12 drops and the thunder was way
in the distance. Storm didn't come over my mountain! Looked like it
though...
Had a first thing in the morning problem with my computer. AOL was acting
up. Couldn't see emails, couldn't save emails to send later. Got a hold of AOL
and "Dane" remotely fixed it. YES! So, back in business, after a rough
hour!
Today my Italian son Alex is celebrating his baby daughter's
birthday. Sedona is 15. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEDONA!
Taken about 3 years ago..
And... recently... a real beauty! I know you are so proud of
her Alex!
Re the fire closest to us...
The 24,125-acre Big Windy Complex burning on ODF-protected lands 25
miles NW of Grants Pass is 87 percent contained. More info: http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3570/
Here are the fires a year ago today...
Laura (Vincent-Virant) posted this on her FB page... what a good idea if you like
caramel apples.....
Do you
love caramel apples but hate trying to eat them? Try it this way! (found this
and could not keep it to myself!! I can't wait to try it!) Hollow out your
apples, (you can balance the apple halves in a muffin pan) fill will melted
caramel,...
let the caramel harden and cut into slices! yummy!
PICTURE of the day... LOL
What a good idea...
This was on FB on "Getting Healthy" with a little help from
our friends.
This is a great little tip for you to try next time you buy
some green onions. You can re-grow green onions pretty easily after you have
already chopped off the bulk of the green to use in your recipe. Just bind them
together, put a little water into the bottom, and they'll be like new again in
12 days!
Ok, so last night Brian was a happy camper when Peyton Manning and the
Broncos beat the dreaded Ravens 49-27. It didn't look like that was going to
happen in the beginning, delays because of lightening storm, but Manning forged
ahead ... throwing 7 TD passes and now ranking up there with the few who have
done that! I think in a week he faces off against his brother Eli and the
Giants. Should be interesting. How their parents can stand that is beyond
me!
"Manning is the sixth QB in NFL history to throw seven TD passes in a game and the first since Joe Kapp for Minnesota against Baltimore on Sept. 28, 1969. The others read like a Who's Who of passers who defied the 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust days long before the NFL became so pass-happy: Sid Luckman, Adrian Burk, George Blanda and Y.A. Tittle.
Tom Brady never did it. Nor Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Joe Montana, Steve Young or Terry Bradshaw. Or, for that matter, No. 7 himself, John Elway, who had his binoculars trained on the action from his perch in the luxury seats."

Ok, so the story of
the USMC mascot. My girlfriend Erika asked about the name "Devil Dogs" and saw a
picture of a bulldog on the US Missouri I posted. Here's the story...
Thanks to the
German Army, the USMC has an unofficial mascot. During WWI many German
reports had called the attacking Marines "teufel-hunden", meaning
Devil-Dogs. Teufel-hunden were vicious, wild, and ferocious mountain
dogs of Bavarian folklore.
Soon afterward a
USMC recruiting poster depicted a snarling English Bulldog wearing a Marine
Corps helmet. Because of the tenacity and demeanor of the breed, the image took
root with both the Marines and the public. The Marines soon unofficially adopted
the English Bulldog as their mascot.
Since 1922, the
United States Marine Corps has used Bulldogs as its mascots.
U.S. Marine Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler introduced the first Marine mascot,
named "Pvt.Jiggs," who lived at Marine Barracks, Quantico VA. He quickly rose in
the ranks to Sergeant Major. He was the first in a series of bulldog
mascots.
The current mascot is the 14th (Chesty XIII retired Aug 28, 2013) in a series
of mascots named "Chesty" after the famous Marine Lieutenant General Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller
Jr.. This dog lives at the Marine Barracks in Washington, DC, where he
appears in weekly parades.Marine units across the Corps have mascots, usually bulldogs, the most famous of which represent the enlisted training installations. An English bulldog named 'Legend' represents Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and 'LCpl. Belleau Wood' represents Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
Here is the retired
Chesty ... and his replacement...
All I
know. TGIF. Nuff said. Ciao.
