Good 61º (HOT!) morning. Clouds high. Pressure
dropping.
Joy.............. not.
My dear friend Greg Lundell (Wilson High S'63
...he and I used to do the Surfer's Stomp together at dances!) and his wonderful
wife Becky have moved to Illinois. He is frustrated at the moving experience.
Bekins (now owned by Wheaton Van Lines) has not delivered all of their things.
Some missing even after a second delivery was made to their new home. Other
friends, Suzanne & Phil Santisteven (LASD ret) moved from California to
Idaho and had the same complaints. The moving industry apparently is going in
the toilet..... alas, the same way as our government!

On a very sad note, Greg's best friend's
daughter, Shandra Fanning, was one of the UPS pilots killed last week. She was
"a great gal" and also a friend of Greg's daughter Lauryn. So sorry to all of
you for your loss. RIP Shandra.
UPS on Thursday night identified the victims as Capt.
Cerea Beal, Jr., 58, of Matthews, N.C. and First Officer Shanda Fanning, 37, of
Lynchburg, Tenn. In an email, the company said the Jefferson County, Ala.,
medical examiner had confirmed their identities.
A former Marine helicopter pilot, Beal had been with UPS since 1990. Fanning, described by UPS as an aviation enthusiast who was active and well-known in Lynchburg, had worked with the company since 2006.

August 21st.
National Senior Citizens Day honors our elderly
population. On this day, we are encouraged to recognize and show appreciation
for the value and contribution of elderly people to home, family and society.
In his Presidential Proclamation (August 19, 1988), President Ronald Reagan
said "For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to
accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best
demonstrate our gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are
good places in which to mature and grow older."
On National Senior Citizens Day, we should:
- Spend some time with senior citizens
- Show our appreciation for senior citizens
- Do volunteer work in support of the elderly

I am so sorry for the loss of the UPS pilots. Nothing worse than losing a child- age does not lessen the unfairness of such pain.
Congratulations the accidental discharge wasn't life threatening. My father in law's was to his torso. Certainly impacted his wife's many years as a widow.
Yes, I learned about the pilot being a friend of Lauryn's on FB. What an awful thing and she was so young. I am wondering what happened to that aircraft as they approached to land. So sad.
Oh Kenny Rogers was a good looking guy back THEN. I think he was another victim of too much plastic!
The lizard. We have them all around on our pool deck this time of year.
Om my goodness that's a lot of goodies you all bought. I am wondering how many boxes it will take to send. Good job!!
XO Trisha
Lydia, so terrible about Gerry's dad! xo
T, if you click on the NY Daily News link it tells you what they know about the crash.
I have filled 5 boxes with the goodies to be mailed to Casey and the soldier pals of his. xo
Hi Sue,
Thanks for Shanda's RIP....
The AP report that I read said the same as your blog.
But, Shanda was more than a mere enthusiast. Her
friends have opened a financial Trust in Shanda's name
for young females interested in learning to fly planes.
Words fail to convey the loss that we all feel.
On the other hand, the AP reporter called the pilot
an "ex-Marine".... I thought once a Marine, always a Marine.
And, still strong in my memory are the times that you
and I danced the Surfer Stomp together. Everybody cleared a
path on the dance floor for us. Whenever we heard that
record, I was lookin' for my dance partner, YOU!...
Shanda was obviously a special lady!
Yes, Greg, it's "former Marine" or just Marine. There is never an "ex" Marine!
You and me babeee.... Surfer Stompin' it up! xo
