Good Friday ~ Joanie ~ Patterson's Pergola! ~ Chaka

Good 46º cloudy morning. Supposed to stay cloudy with rain possible Saturday and Sunday. Swell.

Yeah, today is pay day!

Since I got a late start on yesterday's blog, and it wasn't published by 9am (much like today's !!) my son called to check up on mom! Thank you B for that..... never know. I did, however, sleep til after 7am. Unusual for me. THEN today I did it again!

Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday,or Easter Friday, though the latter properly refers to the Friday in Easter week.
Based on the details of the Canonical gospels, the Crucifixion of Jesus was most likely to have been on a Friday (John 19:42). The estimated year of the Crucifixion is AD 33, by two different groups, and originally as AD 34 by Isaac Newton via the differences between the Biblical and Julian calendars and the crescent of the moon.
According to the accounts in the Gospels, the Temple Guards, guided by Jesus' disciple Judas Iscariot, arrested Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Judas received money (30 pieces of silver) (Matthew 26:14-16) for betraying Jesus and told the guards that whomever he kisses is the one they are to arrest. Following his arrest, Jesus was brought to the house of Annas, the father-in-law of the high priest, Caiaphas. There he was interrogated with little result and sent bound to Caiaphas the high priest where the Sanhedrin had assembled (John 18:1-24).
Conflicting testimony against Jesus was brought forth by many witnesses, to which Jesus answered nothing. Finally the high priest adjured Jesus to respond under solemn oath, saying "I adjure you, by the Living God, to tell us, are you the Anointed One, the Son of God?" Jesus testified ambiguously, "You have said it, and in time you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Almighty, coming on the clouds of Heaven." The high priest condemned Jesus for blasphemy, and the Sanhedrin concurred with a sentence of death (Matthew 26:57-66).
The sentence written was "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews." Jesus carried his cross to the site of execution, called the place of the Skull, or "Golgotha" in Hebrew and in Latin "Calvary". There he was crucified along with two criminals (John 19:17-22).
Jesus agonized on the cross for six hours. During his last 3 hours on the cross, from noon to 3 p.m., darkness fell over the whole land. With a loud cry, Jesus gave up his spirit. There was an earthquake, tombs broke open, and the curtain in the Temple was torn from top to bottom. The centurion on guard at the site of crucifixion declared, "Truly this was God's Son!" (Matthew 27:45-54)

Yesterday was good. I went to Staples and with my coupons and the one from their website I got $27 worth of printer ink and a ream of printer paper, normally $6.99 .... all for free. And... I even got .32 cents back !!!

It poured after I left the house.

Saw one rainbow. Then to Bill and Jeannie's. Got there in the nick of time to help with their new pergola. Thank goodness the rain had stopped!

When putting something like that together it takes more than 4 hands.... more like 10 would have been good, but Chaka was no help!

Jeannie gave me some of her Rosemary..... smells sooo good and such pretty little flowers...

I brought it home and will infuse some olive oil with that and some lemon. Might be good in vodka too! We'll see. Jeannie also made some cookies (gave me some home!) made with M&M's, coconut, and pretzels!!! Good thing she only gave me 5. OINK OINK OINK!!! Recipe please Jeannie?

Have a good Friday. The end of "Spring Break" for the kids up here but Kristen and her crew have it next week. Ciao.

Sue,
Thank you for the story of Good Friday. While reading it, it brought back memories of the movie "The Robe". What a great movie that was!Mother took me to see it when I was a little girl. She had read the book. When it was over she was puzzled as she said that wasn't the entire story!! Well eventually they made a sequel called Demetrius and the Gladiators to finish the story. It was a good one too with Victor Mature.

I have never heard of a pagola but it sure looks lovely with their rocks and stream.
Jeannies cookies look yummy!!

Hugs, Trisha

Glad you enjoyed the cookies, I will send the recipe soon.
That picture of Chaka is a cute one. She sure loves you!!! and of course, the many cookies she gets!
Be anxious to hear how the rosemary olive oil turns out. If it is a winner I will try some too.
Enough with my ramble. Need to get outside and help Billy. Thanks again and we will chat later. Have a wonderful day. xo

@ T, A pergola, arbor or arbour is a garden feature forming a shaded walkway, passageway or sitting area of vertical posts or pillars that usually support cross-beams and a sturdy open lattice, often upon which woody vines are trained. As a type of gazebo, it may also be an extension of a building, or serve as protection for an open terrace or a link between pavilions.
Jeannie and Bill will put chairs or stools and a table there ...a fine place to sit and drink wine in the summer!
