:o( ~ 4 Year Old Pianist ~ Erika's Blautkraut ~ Rainbow ~ Cupcake Day

Good 34º dark and gloomy morning. Got somewhere near 1/4" rain yesterday.

The unspeakable crime at that school in Connecticut is beyond words. It has hit me, as it has so many of you, like a ton of bricks. The tears for those poor children and the families just keep coming. My heart breaks for those parents who have to go to the morgue to identify their babies! Rest in Peace. God loves you all. I pray for healing for those who lost their babies, their grandchildren, their siblings, their nieces and nephews. God Bless them all.

AND the gun control freaks need to STAND DOWN while this plays out and stay out of the limelight! Damn.

We have to keep moving forward and be thankful for all we have.

This came from Ed Chenal. Amazing and cute! He's only 4 years old!!

And then from Joe Kirk (ret LASD) .... LOL
Good one Joe!!!

Yesterday I made Erika's Blautkraut. It comes from her mother's cookbook "Meine Rezepte". I, of course, changed some of the recipe... cooked it in my crockpot for 3 hours, used powdered cloves and as a substitute for bay leaves I used crushed thyme leaves. Here is the original recipe...

3 T. lard ( Erika said to use butter)
2# shredded red cabbage (E uses a 3-4# head, I did too and shredded 3/4 of it)
2 onions chopped (I used 1)
2 bay leaves
2 cloves
salt and pepper to taste
2 Granny Smith apples, chopped
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. white vinegar

Melt butter in the pot and alternatively add the cabbage, apples, & onions in several layers. (I did two layers in the crockpot with the butter melted in the bottom.

Sprinkle sugar on top and wash over it with the vinegar. (I also added 3 more pats of butter on top) Simmer on low, covered, for about 2 hours (or longer). Stir now and then. I put it on high for 3 hours, stirring every hour. Erika likes hers best reheated. It can be made ahead and freezes well. A very tasty side to any meal, turkey... pork...chicken... or ham. And I liked it hot or cold.

3pm yesterday afternoon.......

And yesterday my friend Jan Vargo (formerly of San Gabriel High School ... now living in Vancouver WA) sent me this picture her son Rich (Portland Nationwide Insurance guy) sent of his drive home....

Hi Sue,
Surprised no one has commented today. When reading your words about the shooting of these babies I felt like I was reading my own words. I feel the same exactly. I cry driving in my car every time I hear the news. Yesterday at lunch we went around the table to say our blessing and of course I got choked up while saying mine.

Do soooo agree about the gun issue! As you know it's only the places where guns are forbidden that get shot up with mass killings! Wish we would do like Israel and have mandatory training and armed teachers! They need to protect those babies in their care!

Speaking of babies I am absolutely amazed by that four yr old baby! OMG I couldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes! AMAZING!! Did you ever notice that these young ones who play like that are nearly always Asian. I wonder why that is.

XO Trisha

Thanks for your comments T. I guess with the approaching holidays everyone is pretty busy. I agree that 4 year old is totally amazing and maybe he's so good is because there is a musical person in his family that encouraged he play. I don't know many people who encourage children that age in music. A family history? Maybe.HUGS girlfriend. xo
