Fall, finally! ~ Cycling Mike ~ Kristen's Peacock ~ Clark Gable at Weasku Inn ~ Judy w Elvis and Joe ~ Kristen&Brian

Good 37º morning. Freezing in some areas. The vineyard up the road has their big noisy wind machines blowing to keep the end of their crop from going south.
Trouble is, it sounds like a helicopter landing in my front yard! Grrrrr.....

10-7 radio code for 'out of service'

I believe Fall is here. The toilet seat is

PJ's sister Mike is on a bike ride with her cycling group from the Canadian Border to San Diego. If you live close to the coast, along 101, check out their daily blog and see when they are coming by your area... they left Florence Oregon yesterday ... http://ritafoxrowe.blogspot.com/

Here's the whole group:

Kristen took Alex and Jack to the orthodontist on Friday and across the parking lot comes this guy... The Arboretum on Baldwin between Huntington Dr & Colorado Bl in Arcadia, across from Santa Anita Race Track is where they come from.

Click here: The Arboretum — Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden On occasion they would 'parade' through our Temple City neighborhood, going roof top to roof top!

Yesterday I posted Clark Gable's birthday. The following is from my niece Melinda's BFF Laura Kath (and I became her honorary 'aunt' after we traveled to Greece together!)...

Aunt Sue, sorry to learn of the passing of Jerry’s mom. They really bear such a strong resemblance in that picture you posted.

On a completely different note, did you know that Clark Gable mourned for Carole Lombard at the Weasku Inn in Grants Pass? I put that story in my book about the Weasku Inn (published in 1998 and still on sale at the Inn) Here's an excerpt from my book:

Clark Gable--At Home With the Gibsons at the Weasku Inn by Laura Kath

Before he became known as “The King of Hollywood”, actor Clark Gable turned hobo and jumped a westbound train after one of his early stock theater roles folded in Montana. That late night escapade in 1922 deposited him near Bend, Oregon. It’s safe to assume that during that next year of traveling around Oregon seeking work, doing odd jobs, and hunting and fishing that Clark first discovered the Weasku Inn near Grants Pass, Oregon.

According to Clark’s personal secretary Jean Garceau, in her biography entitled Dear Mr. G (1961, Little, Brown & Company), after his marriage to his second wife, Ria Langham, on June 19, 1931, “Hunting, fishing and camping-out were Clark’s favorite diversions and he wanted Ria to share them with him. He took her on various week-end trips to his favorite haunts. One of these was Rainbow Gibson’s fishing lodge on the Rogue River in Oregon. Clark liked to fish the well-known Pierce Riffle for salmon in the spring and steelhead in the fall. The lodge was called the We Ask U Inn. The Gibsons had three little girls, Sybil, Carol and Vee. Clark was very fond of the whole family and felt at home there.”

Sybil recalls that, “Ria was typically society but very friendly. She didn't fish, just sat around and waited for Clark.” It was no surprise when they divorced and Clark married Carole Lombard, the love of his life, on March 29, 1939. Before and during their marriage, Gable and Lombard were frequent guests at the Weasku. Following Carole Lombard’s tragic death in an airplane crash on January 16, 1942, at the age of 33; after her funeral at Forest Lawn, Clark retreated to the peace of the Weasku Inn with his boundless grief, not emerging in public for three weeks. Sadly, innkeeper Peggie Gibson would place trays of food at his room #4 at the top of the stairs, only to find them untouched
