Good 55º morning. I think we were a degree cooler yesterday. It looks like
predictions say 106º today through Friday and then it cools to the high 90ºs.
Yippeee.
Last night I cooked some couscous blend and a lot of shiitake dried
mushrooms with water in the crockpot on high for 2 hours and then added some
chicken soup and broccolettes (broccoli with stems) and a chicken breast I had
cooked the other night. Left the crockpot on low for another hour.
GOOD!!!!!
And again... from Ike:
There are worse things than getting a call for a wrong number
at 4 a.m. – like, it could be the right number.
....
that's happened. Awful.
Today would have been Sid Hackel's birthday. Sid was the Reserve Captain at
the BC Range. He's missed. Good guy! He used to go fishing and hunting with his
pal, John Wayne. Sid's brother was The Duke's personal photographer.
Sid had lots of stories.
And another birthday today is my Mom's. Margaret Laney. She was the NICEST and most GENTILE
woman ever! (Sure didn't take after her, did I? LOL) She was born in Cleveland
Ohio in 1905 (d. 1994) to immigrant Scottish parents. Born in her aunt's home
next door to Bob Hope's home.... her little cousins played with Bob Hope. Happy
Birthday Mom. You are sooooooo missed every single day. I love you.
Here is a live camera of the fledging ospreys in Montana.
Historically this date.....
1914 – A male servant of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright
sets fire to the living quarters of the architect's Wisconsin home, Taliesin, murders
seven people and burns the living quarters to the ground.
.......... he was definitely and interesting man. I love his
architecture! Click on the word "Taliesin" and read the fascinating story of
that home.... his second wife and her murder. His 'winter home' he built in
Scottsdale AZ and called it Taliesin West. I would love to go there and see it.
Some day. Scottsdale is a very neat place!
1935 – Will Rogers and Wiley Post are killed after
their aircraft develops engine problems during takeoff in Barrow, Alaska.
.... this is neat.... my Mom's birthday is on the surrender date and my
birthday is on the peace treaty signing date!
1965 – The Beatles play to nearly
60,000 fans at
Shea Stadium in New York City, in an event
later seen as marking the birth of stadium rock.
1971 – President Richard Nixon completes
the break from the gold standard by ending convertibility of the
United States
dollar into gold by foreign investors.
1974 – Yuk Young-soo, First Lady of South Korea, is killed
during an apparent assassination attempt upon President of South Korea, Park Chung-hee.
..... Man oh man, can you imagine your name being "Yuk"!
"Ewwwwww, Yuk", "What?" "I think since you are little I'll call you
Yukkie!" LOL
And births this date include....
... .and played by Meryl Streep..... she was soooo good!
.... Wow, still kicking... lives in Encino, born in Fresno, went to
UCLA. Married to same woman since 1949!!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Me? Going to the allergist for some
testing. Whoopppeee.......
