Coastal Snow ~ New Refrigerator ~ Nosey Helicopter ~ Sami's Smilebox ~ Polenta w/ Mushroom Chicken Alfredo

Good 38º morning. Boy howdy, yesterday warmed to a whopping 47º!

Quite the storm on the coast as well as here.. An email and video from Jim Harper (Wilson '63) :Another weather report from the manager at our RV park in Florence, Oregon. Keep in mind that this park is only about twenty feet above sea level.
Yesterday (3-12) was a tropical rain with high winds. Went to bed in a rain storm but woke up to 5 inches of snow, yes snow, in Florence. There are power outages all round and road closures due to landslides.

Yesterday our summit looked like this:

Even on the California side there was no movement!

Dewayne Pberger and Ed Chenal sent this. Scary! Speaking of snowy roads... Don't drive and be distracted.. either with just plain old inattention, talking on your phone, or whatever. Keep your eyes on the road! Don't drift into my lane! This viewed from a police car video......

From the old fridge to the new...

Here is the Smilebox I did of Sami's birthday. The Pixie Party Smilebox will be next....

My friend (LASD ret) from Temple and ELA Station, Vanette Downie Ford Christensen, is celebrating her special day today... HAPPY BIRTHDAY Vanette!!!

Yesterday this helicopter flew over northbound. Noisy as all get out. I went outside and he was coming back. I took some pictures. He flew south and then turned around and came back and circled my house and then went off towards the east over the mountain towards Medford. I guess he wondered what I was doing pointing that long lens at him so I took more pictures and waved to him!

Historically this date....

Sadly, Lee Petty passed away on April 5, 2000 and Adam died tragically about a month later in a racing incident when he was practicing with a Busch series car at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

March 14th
National Pi Day

National Pi Day celebrates Pi, a mathematical concept and a number that never ends....at least no one has found the end yet. Often, we round it off to 3.14. If you are a mathematician, this is your day. For National Pi Day is a celebration of mathematics. And, more specifically.... it celebrates "Pi".
Today is the birthday physicist Albert Einstein. Einstein was born on March 14, 1879. The date is also represented as 3.14. We strongly suspect some combination of these two facts is why someone created the day on March 14th. However, "Pi" was around long before Albert Einstein was born. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi
..............it's also

Thank You Sue for your Bday wishes. I am such a dog lover... this is so me. Although this is a friend's "lap" dog, we have two of our own, both rescues and very sweet. Your dinner looked Yummo and although I can't claim the same brilliance as Einstein, I can claim our weather is much warmer here in So. Nevada this time of year as evidenced by our boating just last Saturday with temps of 78 at Lake Mead.
BTW, that video of the spin out and crash was quite exciting and also a reminder of how precious and fleeting life can be. Take time to be with those you love, for they are only on loan to you for a short time. Hugs to you for your kind and supportive friendship. Have a great day and enjoy a "Pi" serving of your favorite chips. :-)

Sue,

Your blog was a feast for the eyeballs this morning. From the weather report re: Florence down the Or Coast, the Summit, et al. Sami's Smilebox of her Birthday Celebration put and smile on my face, as did the picture of your friend in her chair with what appears to be a yellow lab lap dog...so typical of big Labs and reminds me of my Barney. :)

I keep forgetting to pick up polenta..that dish pushed ye olde drool button. The pic of your new fridge...is it a side by side? Mine isn't and is covered with magnets and pictures like your old one.

Potato chips rule! Nothing like plain, old greasy, salty originals. :) Guess that dates me huh? Came from a time when there was one kind...

Thanks for the plethora of subjects today. XO E.

Thanks for the note, E. Yes, fridge is a side by side, and some of my photos are back on it now! You are right about potato chips, can't eat just one!xo

Sue,

Same here. Loved the Smilebox and especially got a kick out of her little purple boots. I have plenty in that same color from my days as DBHS's "Brahmamama"! lol

Such a strange looking helicopter! Was it a fire dept. one? Looked like it.

I don't have a thing on my frig because the little bit of metal on it doesn't attract magnets.

Loved the big lap dog! Yikes, looks heavy!

XO Trisha

Those are Erickson Sky Cranes made here in Central Point. They are used to fight fires and to carry heavy objects.... very heavy objects and trees out of the forest, etc. xo
