Good 39º drizzly rainy morning. 1.3" of rain in last 24 hours and it just keeps on coming down! A good thing for some, flooding for others.
Yesterday was a 'girls day'. We (Jeannie, Donna, Dee, JoAnn, and I) met at The Mediterranean Bar & Grill ( http://www.themediterraneangp.com/ ) for lunch.
Dee took the less is more lunch and had the Classic Caesar Salad:
JoAnn had the Large Greek Green Salad with Ahi Tuna ...
Fresh Greens tossed with House Vinaigrette & topped with Tomato, Cucumber, Tapenade, Red Onion, Feta Cheese & Whole Pepperoncini :
Fresh Greens tossed with House Vinaigrette & topped with Tomato, Cucumber, Tapenade, Red Onion, Feta Cheese & Whole Pepperoncini :
Donna and Jeannie split the The Margherita Pizza ...
Mozzarella, Goat Cheese and Fresh Basil with Plum Tomato Sauce. Good choice since it was Margarita Day! LOL. I had the Seafood Caesar Pizza:
(Which I am now addicted to!!) : Salmon, Rock Fish, Bay Shrimp, Sweet Bell Pepper, Red Onions, Capers, Parmesan, Mozzarella Cheese & Garlic Anchovy Cream Sauce. And of course one of Shelly's famous Rosemary-Lemon martini!
(L - R JoAnn, Jeannie, Dee, Donna)
Then we headed to the Elk's Lodge to meet 'the guys' who had been patiently waiting .... Dee's friend Kathy showed up (darn, she missed lunch) and they took over the slots! We had a wine and laughed some more...
Nice afternoon!! Then the drive home.............
Nasty nasty nasty.... home to a fire and dinner (the rest of that wild and wonderful pizza!)
Historically this date..............
............remember the Opel Kadett? What a weird little car!
1908 – New York City passes the Sullivan Ordinance, making it illegal for women to smoke in public, only to have the measure vetoed by the mayor.
1954 – The first nuclear-powered submarine, the USS Nautilus, is launched in Groton, Connecticut by Mamie Eisenhower, the First Lady of the United States.
1968 – Vietnam War: Battle of Khe Sanh – One of the most publicized and controversial battles of the war begins.
1997 – Newt Gingrich becomes the first leader of the United States House of Representatives to be internally disciplined for ethical misconduct.
.........if you read the section on his ethics sanctions, sounds like they were all dropped for lack of any evidence of wrong doing and the IRS investigated the tax-exempt status of a class connected to Gingrich and all connected were cleared. AND....."the House Ethics Committee concluded that inaccurate information supplied to investigators represented "intentional or ... reckless" disregard of House rules". Sounds like a bunch of Democrats were pissed he was, after 40 years of Democrat rule in the house, the Republican speaker! Gee what a surprise that Democrats are liars!
1999 – War on Drugs: In one of the largest drug busts in American history, the United States Coast Guard intercepts a ship with over 4,300 kilograms (9,500 lb) of cocaine on board.

Interesting read (if you click on his name <g>)
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Saturday. Ciao

January 21st
Squirrel Appreciation Day
.... and New England Clam Chowder Day
Here is one of the best Clam Chowders ... my sister Marion's recipe:
4 slices bacon, cut into small pieces
3 green onions and tops, chopped
5 medium potatoes, cut in small cubes (red is good with skin on)
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 carrot grated or cut up small
3 small stalks celery, chopped small
1 clove garlic, mashed or minced (I use 3!)
salt and pepper to taste
5 drops hot pepper seasoning (for more heat, leave bottle on table!)
1 T. Worchestershire
2 cups chopped clams
1 pint of 1/2 & 1/2 (use the fat free)
3 bottles clam juice
In large kettle cook bacon until crisp. Drain off most of the grease, then add the onions, potatoes, green pepper, celery, carrot, and garlic. Drain the clams, saving the juice. Set clams aside. Pour the juice from the clams and the bottles of clam juice into the pot, season with salt and pepper, add hot pepper and Worchestershire. Cover, bring to boil, lower heat and simmer until veggies are tender .... about 20 minutes. Add clams and 1/2 & 1/2. Stir and heat. Do not boil. Ladle into bowls. Add more vegetables and/or bacon... to your taste. Serves 4. This is not the 'thick' kind of chowder, it's lighter and thin. You can also add less clam juice and more clams if that's your preference. You could even add some boxed mashed potatoes to thicken it. Go slow with them.... add and test.

Lovin those pizzas and salads... Looks like your lunch went very well :)
Off to feed the squirrels some bread.
How nice of you to feed the critters. I'm sure they appreciate it. Mine like cracked corn, but when the bread gets old I toss it out there too, but it's usually eaten by crows or wild turkeys! LOL
Yesterday was a blast! Again, you need to teach me how to use that camera so we can get your cute smiley little face in these pics.
The clam chowder recipe sounds great, and easy. Love chowder!
Check out those shoes! Wow! Those would be difficult to walk in, I would think. Fun though!
Have a wonderful day. xoxo
Jeannie
We'll do "camera class" soon! As for shoes, I LOVED the ones you had on. Wish I was a fashionista like you and I'd buy some. Even went to the shoe site and looked for a picture of yours, but alas, no pictures. Have a good day. Stay dry! xo
Sue,
What a lovely looking group of ladies! Missed you in the photo tho. Should have had the waiter take it. Ohhh that food looked soooo yummy!!
I did have Margaritas last night. It was a hoot and I will tell you about it in the dd.
Your rain has now moved down here to So Cal.

I admire Gingrich's mind, loved his college courses. He would make a great advisor.
However, he is someone who bounces a check to the IRS while serving in Congress and is sanctioned hundreds of thousands of dollars by a vast majority of his congressional colleagues (395-28 in favor of sanction is not insignficant or only the opposition). His flaws are therefor in need of far more conclusive expanation as to why he should be trusted at this time with the Presidency.
If he did so to the standards he holds his opponents to with their flaws- that would be fine with me
Sue,
I am wondering if any of the hubbies from SEB knew John. He was there from 1972 to 1982. It was home and a family and he hated to leave even after 10 yrs. He was promoted so had to leave.
XO Trisha
How many husbands does Dee have?
OMG, I did say Dee twice on my comment. I deleted the comment and here's what I should have said...
Thanks T! All of us except Donna have ties to LASD... JoAnn's hubby worked Lakewood and Avalon, Jeannie's hubby worked SEB and Homicide, Dee's hubby worked SEB Motors. They are all great gals.
@T, I will ask ... I think Patterson said he knew who John was, but didn't socialize. I'll ask Dale, Dee's hubby.
