~ Happy Thanksgiving ~

Good 40º morning. Looks like a break in the rain for today. Yesterday we got just over ½".

Today, Lord, I am so truly thankful for so many things.

You have Blessed me in many ways. Thank you for this wonderful country I am privileged to live in.. and for all of it's military, police, and fire heroes. Thank you also for the regular "Joe Citizen" heroes, like Todd Beamer, who put themselves out there to help any way they can. Thank you Lord for my wonderful family and friends. They are my greatest Blessings. Thank you Lord for all the critters you have put on this earth, my very own, especially. They teach us so much ... unconditional love, loyalty, and understanding.

Lord, comfort those who are in pain, without friends or family, without food. Thank you for the time I had with loved ones that have gone to be with you. They shall always be in my heart, thoughts, and loved and greatly missed.

Lord, continue to Bless and watch over my family and friends. Keep them safe. And please watch over our country and military. Please impart some wisdom into the pea brains of the political machines running this country. Give them judging abilities to help save our country instead of using their position for fame, fortune, and stepping stones for their personal political future. I know, Lord, a little soapbox in my prayer! Can't help it. Thank you. Amen.

Now here is a wonderful story ... a good one for our Thanksgiving holiday... Thank you Laura (Vincent) Virant... (former Temple City neighbor and pretty girl!)

*** Disclaimer *** I said yesterday the member of our LE/Fire group putting on the feed for Thanksgiving was a retired Benicia cop. Boy did I goof. His wife's name is Benita ... and he was an LAPD and Burbank copper! Sorry Dennis. Brain fart!

My sweet dear friend Patty (Hickey-Oshiyama-McNaughton) is helping her 'baby girl', Bailey, celebrate her 21st birthday today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAILEY!!!!
(Missy Bailey on her way to becoming a nurse! Go girl!)

Historically this date....
1859Charles Darwin publishes On the Origin of Species, the anniversary of which is sometimes called "Evolution Day"

1950 – The "Storm of the Century", a violent snowstorm, paralyzes the northeastern United States and the Appalachians, bringing winds up to 100 mph and sub-zero temperatures. Pickens, West Virginia, records 57 inches of snow. 323 people die as a result of the storm.

1971 – During a severe thunderstorm over Washington state, a hijacker calling himself Dan Cooper (AKA D. B. Cooper) parachutes from a Northwest Orient Airlines plane with $200,000 in ransom money. He has never been found.

1974Donald Johanson and Tom Gray discover the 40% complete Australopithecus afarensis skeleton, nicknamed "Lucy" (after The Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"), in the Awash Valley of Ethiopia's Afar Depression. (This person lived between 3.9 and 2.9 million years ago! OMG)

And births this date include....
1713Junípero Serra, Spanish missionary (d. 1784)

1784Zachary Taylor, American general and 12th President of the United States (d. 1850)

1864Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, French painter (d. 1901)
.... a very strange little man and very very strange art! He was famous for painting prostitutes and maids. Although, I did like his posters, they were interesting.
<Self portriat. (How'd he do that??)

1897Lucky Luciano, American gangster (d. 1962)

1946Ted Bundy, American serial killer (d. 1989)
An American serial killer, rapist, kidnapper, and necrophile who assaulted and murdered numerous young women during the 1970s, and possibly earlier. After more than a decade of denials, he confessed shortly before his execution to 30 homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978; the true total remains unknown, and could be much higher.

1968 – Todd Beamer, American, acclaimed hero of United Airlines Flight 93 (d. 2001)

Sue,
What a lovely prayer. Ditto to everything you said. It really reset the Thanksgiving mood for me. I should stop worrying so much and just be thankful that we so many wonderful family members who are able to be with us today. I am also thinking of those who aren't with us today too.
Hugs and have a blessed day.

XO Trisha

Thanks Sue, like the paper on the driveway and the sun rising above our overcast morning, your Blog helps me greet the morning..Went to open the Blog and the screen was black for a few seconds leaving me to believe you too would be on holiday..Instead greeted by your prayer and tribute to our unsung and sung heroes who we tend to take for granted, like Todd Beamer. When Obama was elected Michele was quoted as saying she can now be proud of America. I pray with you that it is not too late to turn this country around and back to our roots. Let those who feel proud of our country for its radical turn left become enlightened or banished to the hell they deserve to be in.. Onion Mike

RE: National Sardines Day

I will never forget one Thanksgiving day we had a callout for the Coast Guard Auxiliary for a missing boat off of Long Beach. We were on the water by 6 AM, and lunch consisted of sardines on crackers as we sailed our search pattern. I figured that would be Thanksgiving dinner, too, but another CGAux boat found pieces of the missing vessel a little before noon, so our search was called off, and we were able to go home. WHEW!!

You never know.....

XOXOXOXOX
Dan
