Fall Colors ~ Oriental Colesalw ~ Stuffed Eggs ~ Brian & Jen's Party

Good 26º morning! Back to the cold toilet seat! Yesterday was beautiful and the changing trees are fabulous....

Yesterday I made my Oriental Coleslaw.... and deviled eggs to take to Brian and Jen's ... The coleslaw came from a friend of my sister, Marion's. I loved it and Sarah said I could use it in a recipe contest sponsored by The Pasadena Star News ... "food for pot lucks" ... easily transportable.... I won a dinner for two at a local fancy Italian restaurant!

For the coleslaw chop a cabbage, rinse and drain it. Pack in zip bags. Chop one bunch of green onions. Bag. For the dressing mix 3/4 c. peanut oil, 3/4 c. rice wine vinegar, 6-10 dashes Tabasco sauce, 2 T. Sugar, 1/2 t. ground black pepper in a jar with a tight lid and shake. On cookie trays at 350º toast 2 pkgs slivered almonds and about 3/4 c. sesame seeds for 6-10 minutes, until browned, watch carefully as they will burn. Let cool. Break up one package Raman noodles and bag along with the seeds and nuts.

To serve: mix the onions into the cabbage, add dressing and mix, then add the noodles nuts and seeds, mix again.

The deviled eggs were plain (just mayo, salt, pepper, and paprika on top), bacon (mixed in Costco cooked crumbled bacon) and pesto (added 2 T. pesto to mayo mixture) I made little signs ...
Jen and Brian had the house decorated cute with scary moaning coming from the front porch and a smoke machine...
A bunch of their friends and their children came in costume. Jen had made lasagna and cheese bread (and worked her butt off!), Jean made chili that was fabulous (with mushrooms even!), and there were various and other salads and goodies.
Yummmm!

The costumes were great....

.... and even I got into the fun... (I had stopped by Jeannie and Bill's before the party for a wine and so they could laugh at me.... Mrs. Combat Witch! with a moustache~! Chaka knew me and didn't seem to mind the costume.)

Here's a great recipe to deal with left over Halloween candy...

A HAPPY ANNIVERSARY wish to Rick and Lynda Castro!! Wow, kids, one more til your 20th. Hope you have a fun celebration! Congratulations. Love you guys! xoxo

Scary, there are only 60 days left in this year. The Christmas shopping days are dwindling. Best get out there and buy buy buy!!!!

Historically thisdate...
1520 – The Strait of Magellan is discovered, the passage immediately south of mainland South America, connecting the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans, is first navigated by Ferdinand Magellan during the first global circumnavigation voyage.

1683 – The British crown colony of New York is subdivided into 12 counties.

1800 – US President John Adams becomes the first President of the United States to live in the Executive Mansion (later renamed the White House).

1915Parris Island is officially designated a US Marine Corps Recruit Depot.

1941 – American photographer Ansel Adams takes a picture of a moonrise over the town of Hernandez, New Mexico that would become one of the most famous images in the history of photography.

1982Honda becomes the first Asian automobile company to produce cars in the United States with the opening of their factory in Marysville, Ohio. The Honda Accord is the first car produced there.

And births this date include...
1907Max "Slapsie Maxie" Rosenbloom, American boxer (d. 1976)

1941 – Robert Foxworth, American actor

Married to Liz Montgomery until her death.

1957Lyle Lovett, American singer
So so weird.

1972 – Jenny McCarthy, American actress and model

And for the life of me after over the top media attention, show after show of the bachelor party, wedding, after-the-wedding and a $10 million price tag, that air headed Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are getting divorced! What a waste of everyone's time.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Tuesday. Happy November.

I'm sure your Bill will be happy to make dinner. Besides you have all that smoked chicken and pork he made. I have got to get my smoker put together today, for sure! It shouldn't be too difficult, just a matter of reading the instructions. Thanks for the wine time yesterday! xo

This year we only got about 1/2, maybe 150, so lots of
candy left over. That went directly to the freezer, not so
tempting there.

Jenn's party looked like a good one, Really nice house
and kids all look so adorable. Your salad and eggs
looked fantastic. Bet everyone had fun.

I know, the Kardashians, 72 days married. Can you
believe it????? What crack pots are they anyway????

Watched 2 1/2 men with Ashton. About to barf. I think
we watch it to see just how much worst it can get.
Really a stinker.

Enjoy your day, Cyndi

Sue,
I watched Dancing but recorded 2-1/2 Men. Will watch it later but dad watched it last night.
Dancing was adorable last night with all the scary stuff and great costumes!
You food and party looked fabulous! Loved the kid in their costumes and the grown ups were such good sports! Love to see them dress up too.
I feel left out as we don't get any trick or treaters! Bought one bag of candy at John's request so now HE will have to eat it!!

XOX Trisha
p.s. LOVE your fall looking trees!

Well, Halloween has come and gone. We had one cute little trick or treater show up just before 3:30 yesterday afternoon. Darling little 4 or 5 year old! Her Grandpa (I presume from his looks) sat on the wall in the driveway keeping an eye on his little one. No kids on the street in the evening, I was hoping we'd have a few so I could get rid of the candies Spence picked up on Saturday for Daniel. I think that all the organized Halloween parties for the kids are causing the lack of trick or treaters on the streets. Probably much safer this new way.

... Yes Indian summer is beautiful, I miss it here. Thanks for the pictures.
The costumes were great.... They sure were! As was the food from the looks of it. I bet everyone had a wonderful time. "Chaka knew me" .. I would not have recognized you! Fun outfit!
Have a great day.
Hugs, Erika

Great Halloween pics, Sue. Also, keep those fall color pics coming, nothing like them.. Re, John Adams, he would be turning, no spinning, in his grave if he saw who was living there now....
