Good 52º RAINING morning! Started in the night. So far 11/100th's of an inch. How soothing it was to hear.
I had some sad news, an old dear friend, Ronnie Lancaster, passed away peacefully just after 6pm yesterday. He had battled cancer. Ronnie and my Jerry and Steve Voors had been roommates at one time. Ron worked with them at Temple Station, then he went to Vice and retired from Homicide. RIP Ronnie! Now you and Jerry can resume your story swapping!
Here was the afternoon sky ....
I stayed busy in the kitchen again, canning green tomato pickles... this is my uncle Lloyd's recipe. You don't water bath them, they stay crunchy. Cut and put into jars, I added chipotle peppers .. garlic cloves .. jalapeños .. lemon zest .. and celery seed. You boil the vinegar, salt, and water and then fill the jars and put on the lids. They seal without any more heat....
Now, today I'll figure out what to do with the red tomatoes.
Birdies were loaded on the feeders yesterday. Storm was rolling in and it was very windy... they were preparing...
Historically this date...

And births this date include...
...and celebrating today is Jean Schumacher, mother of Jen, grandmother of Tucker and Sami! HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEAN! See you later!

Hi Sue,
I'm used to getting bad news from Moon's bereavement notices---not from your blog. Ronnie was also a good friend for many years, and we worked together (not as partners) at homicide. I knew he had cancer, but still so sad to hear about his passing. May he rest in eternal peace at the side of his Lord.....ron
Sue,
Did you know that Gore Vidal is a relative of Al Gore? He's a very radical lefty. Guess it runs in the family!
So, today is the date that OJ got away with murder! So many I know cried that day. A day that will live in infamy. However, he's now where he belongs!
Your tomatoes are beautiful and love your basket they are in. You jars look like a magazine picture. Good job!
XO Trisha
Good thing Gore Vidal didn't marry Al Gore! He'd be Gore Gore. :o)
Yes, OJ... a long time coming. Thanks re tomatoes. Got basket at 7 Oaks Farm. xo
Sue,
I'll second T's comments about the green tomato pickles. Love the recipe...no water bath...YES! :) Those pics of your landscape are breathtaking and the bird feeder is a hoot! Did you count the number hangin' out on that thing? :) XO Edda
Pack tomatoes, garlic, (recipe calls for t. dill sead but I don't like it as well as the chipotle, lemon zest, and celery seed) in steralized jars. Mix 1 qt white vinegar, 2 qts water, 1 cup pickling salt and bring to boil. Boil for 5 minutes. Pour liquid into jars and put on lids. Will take a while to seal, but eventually will do!
Brian used to eat just the garlic from the jars, so I started getting the peeled garlic from Costco and just pickling plain garlic for him!
A Gore needs to marry a Bore.
Name their child Gore A. Bore.
L, you are on a roll!!!
Birds galore! Your feeder beats mine, any day! Your tomatoes are gorgeous, but with all that canning I see why your back speaks to you! Mine causes a bunch of "conversation, too" Owie! Gloria
