Good 46º morning. Not as cold as yesterday and will warm up quite a bit today ... probably in the low 90ºs. Fires raging all over.... Yreka area in No. Ca burning 75 acres, central Oregon 90,000 acres burned, Texas has massive fires. I can smell the smoke in the air from the No. Cal fire.
Breakfast yesterday was scrambled eggs with bacon crumbles and rolled up in a jalapeño wrap with cheese mayo and chives and lettuce....
Once the chores were done I went shopping in Grants Pass. Stopped in to see Brian and Emily at his
Grange for nyjer seed for the finches, black oil sunflower seed for the gray squirrels, and "Cheese It" like dog cookies for Maggie. (She thinks she's getting 'people food'...LOL) Stopped in Safeway for some mangos and black beans.... recipe tomorrow, and some 'Buttery Caramel' coffee. Real Deals had some cute Halloween stuff and I also got a frog..
Then to the car wash...
Then home to put everything away and then give the golf cart a bath. Reruns for dinner... lobster ravioli.... mmmmmm....
We have the Extreme Home Makeover crew in Medford to build a house for a family. They have lots and lots of volunteers. The show will air later as the 9th show of the season.
Today is the 245th day of the year. Only 120 to go.....
Historically this date...
1901 – Vice President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt utters the famous phrase, "Speak softly and carry a big stick" at the Minnesota State Fair.
1945 – World War II: Combat ends in the Pacific Theater: the Instrument of Surrender of Japan is signed by Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu and accepted aboard the battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay.
1998 – Swissair Flight 111 crashes near Peggys Cove, Nova Scotia. All 229 people on board are killed.
... when visiting Nova Scotia a few years ago I saw the memorial that has been placed there. Peggy's Cove is a beautiful little town with one of my favorite light houses...
With so many tourists walking around it wasn't easy to get a shot of the lighthouse without peeps in the picture. I had to lay down in the rocks to get this shot.
And births this date include....
I took ballet lessons from her father, Ernest Belcher.
... and this old broad, the first baby born on VJ Day in Los Angeles, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of my 16th birthday! No more birthdays!!!! LOL.
All I know. Off to the kitchen to make something good. Looking forward to today as my friends PJ and Dave are hosting a birthday "happening" for me. Ciao.

Thanks BFF!!!! Love you guys... and that includes Chaka and Chatty Charlie! ♥
Jacque and I had just gone to bed in our hotel room in down town Halifax after arriving on a flt from LA. All of a sudden a low flying jet aircraft flew over the hotel, shaking the room and windows like a LA earthquake. Scary! It was not until the next morning we learned it was Swiss Air Flt 111 we heard and felt the night before! Very sad. We visited the memorial on a later visit. It is very beautifully done. This has been the week of air disasters in my life!
Oh my gosh Ike, how frightening! Sure glad you were ok. ox
