Good 58º (GAWD... heat wave!) morning. Cloudy and we did get 12 or 8 drops of rain about 2am. Actually, it was 1:54am. My projection clock makes time telling easy. All I have to do is open one eye, slightly! And there is the time on the ceiling.
Hey hey hey... we have baby turkeys....
They are still pretty skittery, so I have to sneak up on them with the long lens, not making a sound!
The tiny kidney-shaped seeds have been harvested from dried seed pods by various civilizations for thousands of years. The seeds are used, whole or ground, as an ingredient in many foods, and they are pressed to yield poppyseed oil. Now, bear in mind, eating poppy seeds may cause you to fail a drug test. The lab tests cannot distinguish between just cake eaters or opium addicts.
Yesterday I made a cake to take to the Marine Corps League BBQ today. It's Lemon/Poppy seed*. REALLY REALLY good, easy, and great for picnics....because it's sans frosting. Can be cut in large or small slices and eaten with fingers that won't get messy.
1 pkg lemon cake mix
1 pkg Jell-O instant lemon pudding
1 cup buttermilk
(...or add 1 T. white vinegar or lemon juice to a measuring cup. Pour in milk just to the 1 cup line. Let sit 5 minutes. Voilá, buttermilk!)
1/4 cup oil
3 eggs
2 T. poppy seeds
Bundt pan
Pam cooking spray
Mix all ingredients well, spray Bundt pan with Pam, Bake 350º 1 hour. Cool on rack for at least 10 minutes, turn cake out onto plate. You can dust it with powdered sugar if you prefer. Sometimes I make a lemon drizzle with 1 cup powdered sugar and 2 T. lemon juice. Mix well and drizzle with a spoon over the cake.
When I was coming back home the other afternoon the sky over Table Rock was so pretty...
And then I saw this fire truck making a traffic stop!!! LOL
Boy, don't piss off firemen. I'd be scared having a fire hose pointed at me!

And births this date include....
Sorry to say, but I never could stand her acting, her voice, or her face, even on Big Valley or Bonanza! P.S. Her initials are BS.
Hmmm...initials are MF. Such fun to watch him dance!!
If his middle name was Thomas, his initials would be WTF. <g>

Such cutie pies!!!!
Yesterday afternoon Maggie and I took a ride to the mailbox. As I passed the tractor shed one of the yearling fawns bolted out and into the bushes. The mom and her fawn like to lay in there in the heat of the day. Not a lot of room, but they seem fine. The mom doesn't panic anymore if she hears us coming by, but she does stand up, ready. I talk to her and then she lays back down.....
Later on in the evening while I was porch sitting and having a glass of Chard the wind was blowing hard and this deer got spooked by something...
Harley and Maggie were in nap-time bliss....
... and this little dove, after watching her for some time, amazed me as she sat atop the post, never flinching...
.... her mate sat on the wire fence below...
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Saturday. Ciao.

July 16th
National Corn Fritters Day
I like mine with maple syrup! OMG.
Used to be a restaurant in Monrovia that served them with dinner. Can't remember the name of the place, but I LOVED going there with Mom and Dad.

How funny. A drug test can't differentiate between cake eaters or opium addicts.
