Interesting about drive-through restaurants.....

 

In 1921, Kirby's Pig Stand introduced the drive-in restaurant, in which carhops delivered meals. In 1931, a California Pig Stand franchise introduced a drive-through service that bypassed the carhops. 

Harry and Esther Snyder, of the In-N-Out Burger chain that built the first drive-through restaurant with a 2 way speaker system that Harry Snyder invented himself in 1948.By the 1970s, drive-through service had replaced drive-in restaurants in the United States.

 

The first McDonald's drive-through was created in 1975 in Sierra Vista, Arizona, near Fort Huachuca, a military installation, to serve military members who were not permitted to get out of their cars off-post while wearing fatigues. The original McDonald's was closed down and demolished in May 1999 and a new McDonald's replaced it.

 

In 1981, Max Hamburgers opened Northern Europe's first drive-in in Piteå.

 

Another early drive-through restaurant in Europe, a McDonald's drive-through, opened at the Nutgrove Shopping Centre in Dublin, Ireland in 1985.

 

In the US, drive-throughs account for 70 percent of McDonald's business and the average drive through order is fulfilled in under three and one half minutes. Outside of the US, McDonald's drive-throughs are variously known as "McAuto", "McDrive" and "AutoMac".

 

In 2010, the Casa Linda, Texas, franchise of McDonald's opened a drive-through/walk-up only store with no indoor seating although it has a small patio with tables.

 

In McDonald's in the UK, all McDonald's are going under an EOTF transformation (Experience of the Future), where many McDonald's with Drive-Thrus will have a third window. This would be where at the second window, the presenter would tell customers to pull up to the third window (if they've got a larger order and have longer to wait), this is known as the "fast forward window". This reduces waiting times for customers.

No-bake, Two-Minute Hawaiian Pie is a tropical fruit pie that really does just take 2 minutes to put together. This recipe is everything you've been looking for in a tropical, no-bake dessert; it's easy, creamy, fruity, and SO delicious!

 

• 1 (20-ounce) can crushed pineapple in syrup, undrained
• 1 (6-serving-size) package instant vanilla pudding and pie filling
• 1 (8-ounce) container sour cream
• 1 (9-inch) prepared shortbread pie crust
• 1 (8-ounce) can sliced pineapple, drained and halved
• 8 maraschino cherries, drained
• 2 tablespoons sweetened flaked coconut

 

1. In a large bowl, combine crushed pineapple with its syrup, dry pudding mix, and sour cream; mix until well combined. Spoon into pie crust and decorate top with pineapple slices and cherries; sprinkle with coconut.
2. Cover and chill at least 2 hours, or until set, before serving.

 

***As strange as it may seem to you, do not make the vanilla pudding according to package directions. Just add the dry pudding mix right in with the other ingredients.

On July 11th, one convenience chain celebrates with specials on National 7-Eleven Day! Conveniently scheduled on 7-11 of each year, the day often features one of their signature items, the Slurpee.

The day focuses on franchise customers. The chain offers discounts and often free Slurpees in their many flavors. Since July is known for its summer heat, the icy cold beverage is a popular choice for cooling off all summer long.

The Slurpee debuted in 1966. While the machine already existed, 7-Eleven modified the machine made by Knedlik, which was used to make the Icee, and then branded and licensed the frozen drink under the name Slurpee. Advertising executive, Bob Stanford, gave the sweet, icy drink the name for the sound it makes as it is sucked through a straw.

The term brain freeze existed before 7-Eleven commandeered it in 1991 to replace ice cream headache or the more technical cold stimulus headache. In 1990, brain freeze was often used as a sports term to refer to athletes who faltered on the field. It also applied to the side effects of medications, especially if they affected our mental capacity. However, immediately after 7-Eleven supposedly redefined the phrase, sports columnists quickly reused the phrase to their benefit. Athletes still had a brain freeze when they made an error, but the columnists cleverly explained the player must have had a Slurpee before taking the field.

Brain Freeze Tips

Of course, brain freeze is inevitable if you drink a frozen beverage too fast. In preparation for the day, we offer a few tips.

1. Put down the drink.
2. Sip from a warmer liquid.
3. If a warmer liquid isn’t available, press your tongue against the roof of your mouth.
4. Cover your mouth and nose with your hand.
5. Breath through your nose. This allows warmer air to circulate through your sinus passages.
6. Return to drinking your Slurpee at a slower pace.

Go to your local 7-Eleven and get a Slurpee in your favorite flavor.

7-ELEVEN DAY HISTORY

7-Eleven first celebrated 7-Eleven Day in 2002. They encouraged customers to visit their local 7-Eleven to enjoy a free beverage as a thank you to the 7-Eleven customers. The company, which is considered the first convenience store which started in 1927 under the name of Southland Ice Company with the logo Totem, because people could conveniently “tote ’em” home their items. It wasn’t until 1947 when the company expanded its hours to from 7 AM to 11 PM that it changed its name.

Whether they are the four-legged furry kind or come from the more serpentine species, click away. Fishes and birds, pigs and equine, canine and feline should all get in line for their favorite pose. If they are friends, take a few snapshots of them together! On All American Pet Photo Day, every pet gets included.

When it comes to capturing the perfect image of your loyal pal, it might take some effort. Like humans, some furry and not so furry friends are camera shy. A pocketful of treats helps ease them into the shot. If bribery doesn’t work, sometimes exercise before the photoshoot will. Another option is misdirection. Focus their attention on another area beyond the lens of the camera, and you might get the picture you want. If all else fails, wait until your sweet companion falls asleep and click away. They’re at their cutest when they’re resting anyway.

Remember to keep your pet safe and comfortable. Don’t let your pet become overheated or over-anxious. A stressed pet won’t take a good photo. Defer to your pet’s temperament, toss out the costumes, and accept the blurred selfie.

HOW TO OBSERVE 

Dress them up, take them to the park, set them in a chair, put them on a fancy pillow, or whatever your imagination creates for a unique photograph of your loved ones.

Interesting about high heel shoes....

 

 

 

 

The origin of high heels dates back to the 10th century, when Persians wore high-heeled shoes when riding horses. The heels would help maintain balance while riding the horse and shooting arrows, as they could easily be trapped in the stirrups.

 

The invention of the high-heeled shoe as a fashion statement is attributed to Catherine de Medici in the 16th century. However, elevated shoes had been worn as early as 3500 B.C. by Egyptian nobles and butchers.

Ancient Egyptian murals depict royals and butchers wearing an early form of the platform shoe. Platform shoes were commonly used throughout Europe as an oversole that attached to a flat shoe. The high heel emerged in the 1500s as a two-part sole with a flexible upper sole and an attached heel. The shoe was first popular with both male and female riders. Catherine de Medici adopted the high-heeled shoe as a way to increase her short stature. The heel quickly spread as a fashion statement among the wealthy.

According to Klaus Carl, the authorities also attributed a specific heel length according to social rank. It was an inch and a half for the people, 1 inch for the burghers, 1½ inches for the knights, 2 inches for the nobles and 2 ½ inches for the princes. Women were not far behind and quickly became fashionable, but the design of heels for women’s shoes was thinner and sharper than men’s. It was only after the French Revolution in the 1780s that heels became more popular in women’s fashion. Subsequently, with the invention of the sewing machine and other technologies, production has increased. Advertisements such as pin-up posters during the World Wars have also helped shape the image of heels in what it is today.

It doesn't matter when you get a craving for our Bacon Corn Bread, this fun twist on a Southern favorite is good anytime of the year! Serve it slathered in butter during the summer, or alongside steaming chili in the winter; start your day with a bacon-y breakfast bread, or end it with the perfect dinner side. This easy corn bread recipe is going to be a yummy part of any meal, anytime!

 

• 1 cup sour cream
• 1 cup milk
• 1 egg
• 3 tablespoons butter, melted
• 1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal
• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/4 cup real bacon bits
• 2 tablespoons sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt

 

1. Preheat oven to 400º. Coat an 8-inch square baking dish with cooking spray.
2. In a large bowl, whisk sour cream, milk, egg, and butter. Add remaining ingredients and whisk until mixed. Pour batter into baking dish.
3. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool 15 minutes, then cut into squares and serve warm.

National Kitten Day on July 10th purrfectly celebrates the cuddly warmth of a kitty. The miniature furballs of energy snuggle their way into our hearts with no effort all. Within a flick of their tiny ears, we’re in love.

The day aims to remind us that while kittens are well equipped to find their way into our hearts, many don’t find homes. They’re abandoned at shelters, on the side of the road or wild and feral. Spaying and neutering our pets, including our cats, is vital to their health and keeping the stray population down.

Another goal of awareness campaigns like this one is to encourage adoptions. Instead of purchasing a kitten from a pet store, adopt from a shelter. Many kittens are born in shelters. While their ages may vary, all kittens do become cats.

Follow the shelter’s guidelines. Keep these tips in mind when adopting:

1. There’s an application process. Read through it and understand it. The guidelines are for the safety of the animals, the employees, and you.
2. Ask questions. It’s important there’s an understanding between you and the shelter. Most shelters have volunteers and paid employees. However, they work on a very tight budget. Please don’t expect any special accommodations.
3. A good shelter will place the interests of the animal first. They want the cat to have a successful placement. Some animals have anxiety while others get along with anyone and every type of animal.
4. Consider the size of your home and where you live – an apartment or house.
5. Who lives with you? That includes people and pets – does everyone get along and does anyone have allergies?
6. How much time do you have for a pet?
7. So you’ve spotted the kitten for you. Be sure to make several visits to the shelter. Play with the kitten. Spend time grooming them. See how the kitten reacts to other cats. Learn the kitten’s behavior.

Maybe Fuzzy Bear has health issues or doesn’t get along with children. Perhaps another kitten gets along better with dogs. All these factors will be considered on your application.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Play with your kitten or bring her a new toy. Share a selfie with your kitten. Visit a shelter and volunteer your time. If you are considering getting a kitten, adopt instead of purchasing one.
