Good 38º cloudy morning.
Yesterday we got rain rain rain and even it snowed in the morning. There was a lot of it coming down, but it didn't stick as the temperature was 37º. My mountain got quite a bit....

Yesterday Brian picked me up and we went to Ashland. We had reservations at the Black Sheep Restaurant......

We ate with Jen, Jean, Karl, and Sami ......

This restaurant is very unique. It's on the second floor and the staircase is sooooooo tall. If you are in a wheelchair or unable to climb stairs you'd never get in...

The restaurant is "British". Their food was good. Unique experience.

Interesting about SUPER expensive houses....

Think of your dream property and then think a little harder and you’ll begin to get an idea of what the most expensive homes in the world look like.

Because what happens when you bring together an architect limited only by gravity and an owner with a bottomless wallet? You get a luxury house filled with bespoke features tailored exactly to your personality and taste.

And the sky’s the limit: that could mean an outdoor theatre overlooking the Mediterranean sea, an entirely circular building, or whole new levels of exciting tech.

These million dollar homes knew no limits when it came to furnishing or decorating. “Mega mansions” or “a million dollar house” doesn’t really cover it: the world’s biggest house comes with 240 bedrooms and 535 other rooms.

Some of the other most expensive homes ever sold are vertical palaces designed to withstand earthquakes or sprawling estates with breathtaking views. The homes of the rich know no boundaries.

Buckingham Palace might not be put up for sale anytime soon but, if it was, it would be worth around $6.7 billion dollars. With 240 bedrooms as well as a swimming pool and doctor’s surgery, it’s a place called home by the British Royal Family and is also open to the public for guided tours.

In total, this rich house—if you can call it a mere house—contains 775 rooms: 19 state rooms, 92 offices, and 78 bathrooms. It’s also got a huge team of staff as well as beautiful gardens. Rumour has it, there are a few other secret rooms dotted throughout this huge luxury mansion.

Estimated value: $6.7 billion
Location: London, UK
Owner: Queen of England

Villa Leopolda sits between two of the most prestigious parts of the world: Monaco and Nice. Sumptuous and stylish, it’s a luxury property with a regal past and previously belonged to King Leopold II of Belgium. Since then, it’s passed through the hands of many owners and has also been used as a film set, for Alfred Hitchcock’s “La Main Au Collet“.

When Edward Safra, its previous owner, passed away, he left the villa to his wife. Its huge swimming pool and excessive gardens reportedly require the daily work of more than 50 gardeners. Across the entire property, there’s 80,000-square feet of space.

Estimated value: $750 million
Location: French Riviera, France
Owner: Lily Safra

The One mansion is considered not only to be the most expensive house in California but also the most expensive house in the US. But it’s also The One riddled with debt and legal issues. But, despite its flaws, this is a beautiful property with gorgeous views in a breathtaking setting.

The One is home to nine bedrooms and multiple kitchens, as well as all of the other essentials like a nightclub, a bowling alley with four lanes, a salon, a home gym, a 50-seat theater, and a running track. It has not just a swimming pool, but also six other water features, like a jacuzzi and a moat that surrounds the luxury house.

Estimated value: $500 million
Location: California, United States
Owner: Nile Niam

The Hamptons are renowned for being expensive but Four Fairfield Pond takes it to the next level. This is a luxury mansion designed for anyone who gets bored easily, thanks to its sweeping grounds and endless array of facilities.

As well as the 39 bathrooms and 29 bedrooms, a stay here includes access to a private basketball court, a two-lane bowling alley, and a 164 seat theatre. Known as one of the largest homes in the United States, it also features 12 chimneys, a 91-foot-long dining room and a billiards room, two tennis courts, and two squash courts.

Estimated value: $248 million
Location: New York, United States
Owner: Ira Rennert

All I know. Nuff said. Have a good Monday. Ciao.

Each year on May 9th, National Home Front Heroes Day honors millions of civilians, past and present, who provide support to service members from the home front. Dedicated heroes roll up their sleeves, support neighbors, communities, and our nation at home while our service members are abroad. As a result, service members have a peace of mind knowing their families, businesses, and communities are taken care of at home.

For hundreds of years, military service members have left home to serve their country. Historically, World War II had the most impressive number of Home Front Heroes that would keep the country going. In fact, during the war Americans stepped up to the task with remarkable determination. In addition, the civilian contribution to the war effort was extraordinary. In return, it led to encouragement for service members to complete successful military operations overseas.

Contributions made by Home Front Heroes is a long one, respectively. However, there are few well-known contributions which include:

  • Women joining the production lines;
  • Hosting charitable food, metal, and medical drives;
  • Businesses shifting to military production;
  • Rationing goods, such as sugar, coffee, and rubber; and
  • Victory Gardens planted to ensure adequate food supply on the homefront.

Today, Home Front Heroes are still making it possible for military service members to honor their commitment to our nation. Unsurprisingly, Home Front Heroes continue to actively participate in charitable organizations, volunteer in their communities, provide relief work, and dedicate time and money to help support service members and their families.

OBSERVING

Your help in honoring Home Front Heroes is just as important as being a hero. You can do your part by:

  • Planing Home Front Hero events such as parades, teas, and luncheons;
  • Honoring a Home Front Hero in your neighborhood, community, or organization;
  • Encouraging city and state officials to celebrate the day;
  • Posting photos and videos of Home Front Heroes from your area;
  • Sharing or listening to stories about a Home Front Hero you know.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL HOME FRONT HEROES DAY

The Home Front Heroes Day National Committee submitted National Home Front Heroes Day in 2022 to honor the contributions made by millions of Home Front Heroes. The day also acknowledges civilian dedication, support, hard work, and sacrifices made at home for military service members.

“We have Memorial Day. We have Veterans Day. We have Fourth of July. But we don’t have any day devoted to recognizing and thanking those millions of people who made it possible for us to prevail. There is no day for acknowledging the people on the home front who do their duty, too, and I hope to change that.” ~Major John “Lucky” Luckadoo

View Official Home Front Heroes Day Proclamation.

In 2021, Major John “Lucky” Luckadoo, a Forefront Living Community Presbyterian Village North resident in Dallas, received the LeadingAge Inspirational Senior Texas Award. He began using the award as a platform to further his mission to establish a National Home Front Heroes Day. His 100th birthday wish the following year was to establish May 9th as Home Front Heroes Day. Lucky was a proud service member of the United States Airforce B-17 Flying Fortress. Unfortunately, he is the last living member of the World War II Eighth Air Force 100th Bombardment Group. He reflects daily about the vast amount of support civilians gave at home during his service. He is especially grateful for the support, sacrifice and dedication civilians continue to make for all service members.

The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed National Home Front Heroes Day in 2022 to be observed annually on May 9th.

Interesting about hot dogs.....

A hot dog (less commonly spelled hotdog) is a food consisting of a grilled or steamed sausage served in the slit of a partially sliced bun. The term hot dog can also refer to the sausage itself. The sausage used is a wiener (Vienna sausage) or a frankfurter (Frankfurter Würstchen, also just called frank). The names of these sausages also commonly refer to their assembled dish. Some consider a hot dog to technically be a sandwich. Hot dog preparation and condiments vary worldwide. Typical condiments include mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, relish, and cheese sauce.

Common garnishes include onions, sauerkraut, jalapeños, chili, grated cheese, coleslaw, bacon, and olives. Hot dog variants include the corn dog and pigs in a blanket. The hot dog's cultural traditions include the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest and the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.

These types of sausages were culturally imported from Germany and became popular in the United States. It became a working-class street food in the U.S., sold at stands and carts. The hot dog became closely associated with baseball and American culture. Although particularly connected with New York City and its cuisine, the hot dog eventually became ubiquitous throughout the US during the 20th century. Its preparation varies regionally in the country, emerging as an important part of other regional cuisines, including Chicago street cuisine. In more recent years, particularly in the golf world, the hot dog has once again made a rise in popularity, with fans and players alike referring to the popular American favorite as the “Pork Missile.”

^Carts selling frankfurters in New York City, circa 1906. The price is listed as "3 cents each or 2 for 5 cents".

Common hot dog sausage ingredients include:

Pork and beef are the traditional meats used in hot dogs. Less expensive hot dogs are often made from chicken or turkey, using low-cost mechanically separated poultry. Changes in meat technology and dietary preferences have led manufacturers to lower the salt content and use turkey, chicken, and vegetarian meat substitutes.

Commercial preparation

Hot dogs are prepared commercially by mixing the ingredients (meats, spices, binders and fillers) in vats where rapidly moving blades grind and mix the ingredients in the same operation. This mixture is forced through tubes into casings for cooking. Most hot dogs sold in the US are "skinless" rather than "natural casing" sausages.

Although hot dogs are cooked during manufacture, it is still recommended that they are heated to an internal temperature of at least 165 °F  prior to consumption.

Most hot dogs are high in fat and salt and have preservatives sodium nitrate and sodium nitrite, which are contributors to nitrate-containing chemicals classified as group 1 carcinogens by the World Health Organization, although this has been disputed. These health concerns have resulted in manufacturers offering alternative product lines made from turkey and chicken, and uncured, low-sodium, and "all-natural" franks. Hot dogs have relatively low carcinogenic heterocyclic amine (HCA) levels compared to other types of ready-to-eat meat products because they are manufactured at low temperatures.

An American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) report found that consuming one daily 50-gram serving of processed meat — about one hot dog — increases long-term risk of colorectal cancer by 20 percent. Thus, eating a hot dog every day would increase the probability of contracting colorectal cancer from 5.8 percent to 7 percent. The AICR's warning campaign has been criticized as being "attack ads". The Cancer Project group filed a class-action lawsuit demanding warning labels on packages and at sporting events.

Hot dog restaurants

Stands and trucks sell hot dogs at street and highway locations. Wandering hot dog vendors sell their product in baseball parks. At convenience stores, hot dogs are kept heated on rotating grills. 7-Eleven sells the most grilled hot dogs in North America — 100 million annually.

Hot dogs are also common on restaurants' children's menus. Fast-food restaurant chains typically do not carry hot dogs because of its shorter shelf-life, more complex toppings & cooking, and a mismatched consumer expectations. There are also restaurants where hot dogs are a specialty.

xo Sue Mom Bobo

Mother’s Day is a time-honored tradition of recognizing the women in our lives who raised us, dried our tears, and well, mothered us. Everyone has one or has someone who is like a mother to them. On the second Sunday of May, we honor those women who are our mothers. Whether we shower her with gifts, take her to a fancy dinner or make her a homemade card, what moms want most is to be surrounded by the love of her family. Knowing the people they love are safe, sound, and healthy is a mom’s number one priority.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Pay tribute to your mother this holiday. Surround her with the love she deserves and shower her with the affection and attention you know she wants. For those of us whose moms are no longer with us, spend some time remembering the woman you miss. Visit with those who remember her and honor her memory. If you’re a mom, revel in the attention. You deserve it!

MOTHER’S DAY HISTORY

Mother’s Day has been celebrated around the world since, well, since motherhood. In the United States, Julia Ward Howe inspired the first movement toward a national observance during the Civil War. Appealing to the public for a “Mother’s Day for Peace” after witnessing the devastation left by war, Howe went on an international crusade. While her efforts never gained formal recognition for an official observance, she was acknowledged posthumously in 1988 for her achievements and her efforts for women’s rights.

In 1905, Anna Jarvis, the daughter of Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis successfully introduced the idea for a national holiday recognizing mothers. Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis had followed Howe’s campaign and had pursued her own volunteer efforts during the Civil War. Ann Marie died on May 9, 1905, and her daughter, Anna, missed her mother greatly. She started a dedicated letter-writing campaign to declare an official Mother’s Day. Through Andrews Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, the first observance occurred on May 10, 1908.

This day, to honor Anna Jarvis’s mother, grew into a national observance until in 1911 when every state participated. Soon it was spreading internationally, and on May 9, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday of May.

Some of us were wildly fortunate to have such wonderful mothers! I was, for sure. Margaret Elizabeth Laney was an awesome lady. Miss you so much Mom!!!
