Chuck Spark ~ Micol Klamm

Good 45º rainy morning. Started raining in the night and we got 1"! The creek is full and running fast!

Yesterday was the funeral of an active local guy, Chuck Spark. He served in the US Navy. He was our Rogue River VFW Post's Vice Commander and Adjutant. He became a volunteer at the local fire department and then joined as a full time fireman and became a lieutenant. Then he became Fire Chief in Gold Hill. 

Chuck had given a speech on 9-11 at our Depot Street Bridge

Mike Hannan was a good friend of his and I met up with Mike and Jennifer and we joined the funeral escort from Rogue River to the National Cemetery in Eagle Point. Two fire engines, one from Rogue River, and one from Evans Valley led the escort, behind them cars with family members, and then Old Guard bikers and Veteran bikers and a line of cars.

Chuck had a lot of loving family and friends. Many of them spoke at the service, Mike being one.

After the service we found Jerry's grave in the Memorial Wall. I had not been there since I took his ashes for burial and had not seen the engraving.

Jerry is not there, he's in my heart and he's with me all the time. 💗

Then we found Mike's father's grave....

Today when I sat down at the computer I saw where Bob had posted on FB that his Micol had passed away yesterday afternoon. She had kidney cancer and had one removed but was still struggling with more cancer throughout her body. RIP Micol. You are missed and loved.

We always had a fun time with Bob and Micol... here we are l-r Bob, me, Nancy, Jennifer, Micol, and Mike.

On this date in 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each year, the United Nations, establishes a new theme for the year. In 2006, the theme is fighting poverty.

Human rights is something we easily take for granted in the United States. Elsewhere, freedom and basic human rights are not a given.

Participate in this day by learning more about human rights issues around the globe. Offer your time and money in support of a human rights issue that is important to you.

The United Nations General Assembly created the first Human Rights Day on December 10, 1948. Since then, it day has been promoted annually by the UN, and by Human Rights groups around the world.

Rain ~ 3 Years Ago Today ~ Geese & Turkeys ~ Honoring Viet Nam POWs ~ Bacon Corn Dip ~ Thursday's NFL Game

Good 44º drizzly morning. Warmed to 46º yesterday and with the on and off drizzle we got another 1/4".

Three years ago today it was 2º and a pipe broke under the porch. Snow everywhere and took 6 days for the pipes to thaw until I had running water. What a pain!

Yesterday I heard a flock of geese outside. There were  10 to begin with and then 5 more joined them. I put some cracked corn out for them to enjoy. Then they just wanted to hang out, but the turkeys had other ideas and chased them, finally the geese had enough and left......

I received this from Rod Johnson (LASD ret) and it's something I had not seen before. Viet Nam POW's being honored in 1973 and again in 2013. Emotional!

Ok, here's something good!

Super Easy Crock Pot Bacon Corn Dip

8 oz cream cheese, softened

15¼ oz can of corn, drained

¼ cup butter, melted

½ - 1 (4½ oz) can chopped green chilies, depending on taste

3 pieces crumbled bacon, for garnish

tortilla chips (Fritos Scoops for me!!!)

1. Combine all ingredients, except bacon and chips!, in slow cooker.

2. Cover and cook on high for 30 minutes, stir until smooth.

3. Reduce setting to low (or warm) to keep warm

4. Before serving garnish with crumbled bacon

5. The longer it cooks, the spicier it will get.

6. Serve hot with chips

Christmas Card Day

(Probably the last Christmas card I made and sent.)

Christmas Card Day, honors Sir Henry Cole (1818 - 1874) of England. Cole created the first commercial Christmas Card in 1843.

Just a few decades ago, sending Christmas cards through the mail was a holiday "must". Sending cards through the mail continues to be very popular. The cost and time for writing and sending cards has caused many people to stop sending them. Free Ecards have surged in popularity. Animated Christmas and seasonal Ecards have made sending and receiving them a lot of fun.

Good 37º drizzling morning. We warmed to a whopping 37º yesterday and then over night it was down to 34º. I did hear it raining about 4am. No snow. Too warm. We got 1/2" so far.... looks like more on the way:

Then it was chair, wine, Chicago Fire... and a fire in the wood stove. Haven't done that in a while. The old back doesn't like carrying in those logs. Anyway, we were all so snuggy!!!

National Brownie Day

National Brownie Day celebrates chocolatey, chewy brownies.

Brownie lovers, love chocolate. Conversely, chocolate lovers, love brownies. Therefore, its only natural, that we have a special day to celebrate brownies.

It's fun and easy to enjoy this special day. First, select your favorite brownie recipe, and bake a batch of brownies. You can add nuts, if you prefer. Topping the brownies with chocolate frosting is a good thing, too. Finally, eat them! You can have them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or as a snack.

PS. Don't forget the glass of milk!
