Good 25º everything is frozen morning!

I have a projection clock in the bedroom that shows the time and outdoor temperature. It got down to 22º in the night. I pray no pipes break!!!

The snow yesterday didn't hang around long. It warmed to 40º and it all disappeared, except for up on my mountain. In the afternoon we had some sun... and it heated up to 54º.

This is SO true!

I certainly found out last year who a "friend" was! Not a REAL ONE for sure! It's always sad when someone's "hoity toityness" gets in the way and they can't be honest and true.

My Christmas present to me.... normally every year I buy myself a new pair of LLBean Wicked Good Clogs. They are   shearling lined, and have an outdoor sole. So so so comfy!!! I live in these babies!

We have several murals here and in Grants Pass. Artists extroadinaire!

Needed to do an Air Fryer meal, so for dinner I heated up the rest of the potatoes/veggies/cheese sauce (http://oregonsue.blogspot.com/2016/11/rain-summit-snow-james-duran.html) in the Air Fryer that I lined with foil... made it easy to remove the veggies....

14 minutes at 370º. Oh so yummy!

and I cooked a crab/scallops stuffed sole (http://www.omahasteaks.com/servlet/OnlineShopping)

filet in the Air Fryer. Same thing, it was frozen, so 17 minutes at 370º and topped all with some Parm cheese...

PERFECT!!!

Oh, and I had that Dirty Sue Martini finally! (3 to 1... gin and martini mix)

National Cotton Candy Day

Cotton Candy is a popular summertime treat. That being the case, why do we celebrate this day in the middle of December? Good question.

The Cotton Candy machine was patented in 1899 by William Morrison and John C. Wharton. They brought it to the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904, where is was quite popular. Cotton Candy is a favorite at amusement parks, circuses, fairs, and sports venues.    

Cotton Candy was originally called fairy floss. It is made from Floss (or Flossine) sugar.

Yesterday another over the top exciting one. Sheesh... And wussy me was COLD... we warmed from the 30ºs to the 40ºs. About noon the neighbor up the road, her dog Nova showed up here again. I called the woman and she hiked over to the fence and got her. Said she opened the door and Nova ran out! She came directly here and was happy happy happy!!!!

Personally, I think she likes me better!!! LOL.

How about an easy peasy crock pot banana bread.... shared by my friend Gary Adkinson, the Birdman of Wimer!

2 whole eggs

1/2 cup butter, softened and cubed

1 cup sugar

2 cups all purpose flour

1 t. baking powder

1 t. baking soda

1/2 t. salt

3 whole bananas, medium size, mashed

1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

1 cup nuts, walnuts or pecans... chopped (optional)

In a bowl combine eggs and sugar. Mix well. Add baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 1 cup flour. Mix well. Add in last cup of flour. Mixture will be thick. Mash the bananas well and add to mixture. Butter a small crock pot and pour in mixture. Cook in 6 qt pot for 4 hours on on low. Top should be slightly brown and bread will bounce back to touch.

St Nicholas Day

St. Nicholas Day is today. Yes, there really was a Christian Saint Nicholas. He lived in the country of Greece, just a couple hundred years after the birth of Christ. This day is in honor of Saint Nicholas and his life.

Saint Nicholas became a priest, and later, a Bishop of the early Catholic Church. True to the Christian concept of giving up belongings and following Christ, St. Nicholas gave up all of his belongings. He was well known for giving to needy people, especially children. There are may stories and tales of him helping out children in need.

The practice of hanging up stockings originated with Saint Nicholas. As the ancient legend goes, Saint Nicholas was known to throw small bags of gold coins into the open windows of poor homes. After one bag of gold fell into the stocking of a child, news got around. Children soon began hanging their stocking by their chimneys "in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there".

It wasn't until the 1800's that the spirit of St. Nicholas' life evolved into the creation of Santa Claus. And, this happened  in America. Santa Claus emerged (or evolved) from the stories and legends of St. Nicholas. Santa Claus was kind and generous to children. Unlike "St. Nick", Santa Claus is largely a non-religious character.
