Rain ~ 10-28 ~ NFL ~ Life Hacks ~ Smilebox Day #5 The Missouri ~ Christian ~ Teri & Barry ~ Baked Salmon

Good 46º cloudy morning.
Yesterday it rained and rained. Stayed cool, by noon it was still only 50º.  Warmed to 54º by afternoon. Nearly 2" of rain so far in the last 3 days of rain, it was just 2/10ths shy by afternoon.

Our tour of the Missouri was right after the tour of the Arizona Memorial. A special visit to the Mo, as my US Marine son Brian, during the Gulf War, was assigned to the Mo with a Marine Corps Detachment. He showed us the special places and the bunk where he slept. We also were granted entrance into the Captain's quarters since Brian has served on the ship!
There is a 'tent' on the front deck. At present they are replacing all of the teak decking, so that is there to protect supplies.
Captain Kaiss is the only Commanding Officer in history to put a US Navy ship
into commission, and take the same ship out of commission. He is also the last
Commanding Officer of a Battleship and in essence, the last Battleship Sailor.
He was the last sailor to leave the ship on March 31, 1992.

Later dinner was salmon. This recipe I saw on FB and shared it on my page, but you can see it here http://cafedelites.com/2016/06/26/honey-garlic-butter-salmon-foil/
I sauteéd some cut up asparagus and spinach with a little olive oil to serve the salmon on...  Salmon was baked with melted butter, garlic, and honey.....

Then into the broiler for 3 minutes after baking to get the crusty top....

Found this at the store the other day and topped the salmon with some. OMGOOOD!

Yes, banana cut up... makes my tummy happy!
All I know. Nuff said. Happy TGIF. Ciao.

Frankenstein Friday

Frankenstein Friday celebrates he birth of Frankenstein and its creator. Frankenstein is one of the best known horror characters, dating back to the 1800's. We can't imagine the Halloween season without the presence of Frankenstein, lurking somewhere in the darkness.
Frankenstein was born in 1818 when Mary Wollenstonecraft Shelley, at the age of 21, wrote the story "Frankenstein".
To celebrate this day, we suggest you read the novel, or see a Frankenstein movie.
Boris Karloff played Frankenstein in 1931

Later I had some of that leftover spaghetti.
The dog, Nova, made another visit yesterday. She was also over here on Tuesday. She thinks I'm her new best friend. I told the lady when I met her at the fence, it's dangerous here with cougars and coyotes. The dog is small and coyotes will gang up on a single dog. She's got to fence in her yard! Sheeeesh!

October 27th
US Navy Day

Many nations around the world celebrate their navies, with a special day dedicated to them. Each country selects a date relevant to their navy, often the birth date of the navy.
In the United States, Navy Day is commonly celebrated on October 27th.  This date was selected as it was the birth date of  President Theodore Roosevelt, an avid supporter of the U.S. Navy. In the 1970's, research determined that the birthday of the U.S. Continental Navy was October 13, 1775. At the time, efforts were made to move Navy Day to this date. However,Navy Day in the United States, is still largely recognized as October 27th.

On Navy Day,  give some well deserved attention to your proud U.S. Navy, and to the sailors who serve our country.......Salute!
