Good 49º sunny clear morning. We got up to 90º yesterday and should be about the same today.

 

Bruiser wanted to go outside so I went to the back door... there were grackles

and woodpeckers

in the water tubs taking baths.  So I didn't let him out. Then in the pasture I saw a black tailed jackrabbit!

Haven't seen a rabbit here in ages! They have the biggest ears!  

So then comes along the 3 does. Well, Bruiser had to stay in so they all wouldn't get scared away. He gave up wanting out and napped.  

 

 

Yesterday for breakfast I heated the leftover pulled pork, mixed some mayonnaise with some of the BBQ sauce, spread it on a whole wheat muffin, and had a sandwich! OMGOOOOOD!

Dinner last night was at the Grants Pass Golf Club for the Humane Society's Fur Ball. I joined Jennifer and Mike and Julie and Joe.

L-R Jennifer Murphy, me, Julie & Joe Bloom, and Mike Hannan. Mike and Joe had a lot in common... both having been firemen. Joe and I had a lot in common, as he was an LA Co Fireman! Worked at W. Hollywood Station, Watts, and a few others. Knew a lot of Deputies too. Julie was a teacher and lots of fun to talk to. Super super nice folks and I hope we can get together again soon!

Dinner was buffet... prime rib that was out of this world good and TENDER!, salads, and veggies. Wonderful meal.

National Chocolate Pudding Day

Yesterday I cleaned out more "stuff". I am so tired of all the things I have saved and saved. Time to clean out!!! This is the dresser in my bathroom. Drawers are almost empty now!!

BTW, the Marilyn Monroe calendar, that I framed, was my Dad's. He had it in his walk-in closet. We always knew when he was in the closet as he would wolf whistle!! LOL.

The bagful that goes in the trash!

Dinner was Omaha Steak cheesy hash browns (bake in the oven 30 minutes), corn on the cob, and some canned pulled pork, drained, and heated with Grandpa Grahams Hickory Smoke Blackberry BBQ Sauce 

(OMGOSH, SOOOO GOOD!! and made in Grants Pass https://www.facebook.com/GrandpaGrahamsBBQ It is gluten free, no high fructose syrup, all natural ingredients.)

 

I cooked two ears of corn, the first one I put on plain BF mayonnaise, the second with some of the pomegranate mayonnaise. OMGOOOOOOOD!!!!

Instead of "cooking" corn, as it gets mushy. Heat some water with about 1/3-1/2 cup white vinegar, bring to boil. Remove from heat and add corn on the cob. Let sit til ready to eat. It will be hot and NOT mushy. Still crunchy!

 

Later I tried watching some movies I recorded and they were trash. Ended up watching Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods.

National Strawberry Parfait Day

Easy and healthy:

1 cup sliced fresh strawberries

1 t. sugar

1/2 cup non fat Greek yogurt

1/4 cup granola

or

slivered almonds

Combine strawberries with sugar in small bowl and let stand until the berries start to release juice. 5 minutes. Next, layer yogurt and the strawberries with their juice in a 2 cup container. Top with granola or almonds.

Yesterday the clouds were all around and then they moved out and I could see the moon over Fielder Mountain...

 

It stayed a lot cooler yesterday. By noon it was only 73º.

The clouds came and went and there was a nice breeze. I:30pm 78º. And by 2pm it was down to 76º. Ahhhhhh..... porch and wine time. Bruiser and Dude napped.....

Two bucks visited yesterday. Hard to get their pictures without scaring them...

Later two does showed up and went over by the tractor shed where that young doe, who had been in my front yard the day before, was and the three of them hung out. I think one of them may be the younger one's mom

Ok, zucchini lovers... here's another recipe...

Tuna Zucchini Cakes

1 T. butter

1/2 cup finely chopped onions

6.4 oz light tuna in water

1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs, divided

1 cup shredded zucchini

2 eggs lightly beaten

1/3 cup fresh minced parsley

1 t. lemon juice

1/2 t. salt

1/8 t. pepper

2 T. vegetable oil

 

In a large saucepan, heat butter over med-high heat. Add onion and cook and stir until tender. Remove from heat.

 

Add tuna, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, zucchini, egg, parsley, lemon juice, salt and pepper to onion mixture. Mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into 6, 1/2 inch thick patties. Coat with remaining breadcrumbs.

 

In a skillet, heat oil over med heat. Add patties and cook about 3 minutes on each side until golden brown and heated through. Enjoy!

Later the excitement was over the top.... washed dishes, did laundry, filled water tubes outside for the critters, and took the trash to can down by the road. Dude had a good run. I got out my camera to take his picture and he gave me a BIG KISS!

 

 

Dinner was rerun of the other chicken pastry from Omaha Steaks. Then Arlon Webb's (Wilsonite) wife, JoAnne, posted a recipe on FB, Cream Corn Salad.

It sounded great and I wanted to try it, but some ingredients I didn't have, so substituted. Didn't have green onions or dried basil, so chopped a part of a red onion and snipped some of my chives and added in basil salt I had made.

National Pralines Day

Pralines were originally created in France by coating almonds in caramelized sugar. The praline got its name from French soldier and sugar industrialist, Marshal du Plessis-Praslin, as it was his cook who invented it.

 

The recipe evolved when French settlers brought the recipe to Louisiana where chefs in New Orleans eventually substituted pecans for almonds and added cream.

 

Pralines now come in many flavors and include several different types of nuts. It's no wonder they have their own day. Happy National Pralines Day!
