Temperatures ~ Cop Adopts 2 Kids ~ Nan Chipolla ~ Yucca ~ Hallmark Movie/Miss USA Contest ~ Yo-Yo Day

Good 63ºsunny clear morning.

Yesterday it was nice in the morning for awhile, with the doors and windows open and a comfy 65º. Then by 9:45 it was 79º. Closed the house and turned on the AC. By 11am it was 88º. And the weather people said it was going to be cooler yesterday than Saturday! 1:pm 95º. 3:pm 99º! 3:30 100º!! That is NOT cooler than Saturday! Predictions for 99º for today.

I decided before 9am I had best get the trash down to the road, as it would be too hot for Dude to run later. If I take the golf cart anywhere, he HAS to go too or ELSE! When we came back the clouds were forming again. Humid. ICK.

I had made a cup of coffee earlier but let it sit. When I came back from the trash duty I put it in a glass with ice. Mmmmmmm........ perfect. Breakfast was a bowl of baby spinach topped with tomato, microwave poached egg, and a boneless skinless chicken thigh. Yummm!

Excitement was rampant, I sorted through mail, went through all the stuff in the shelves next to my desk and either shredded or tossed out 2 large trash bags of stuff!!!, washed dishes, did a load of laundry, and contemplated dinner. Zowie.

You have got to see this 2 minute video of
a man with a great heart for two down and out kids. (Shared by Bernie Beck. Thank Bernie!)

A special birthday today... Nan Chipolla, wife of the infamous Mike, cousin to my travelin' pal Joan Petitclair ..... with their family. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NAN!!! Gonna have a martini in your honor!

My Yucca plant is finally blooming.... it's still very small. Don't know where it came from, just was there and over the years has grown s-l-o-w-l-y ....

We had some tall ones in Temple City. Our neighbor, Virginia Cobar, the awesome lady who taught me how to make tamales, used to come pick the blooms and stuffed them to eat. I never got her recipe. Think I'll write her and see if she will send it to me.

Dinner was reruns of that chicken soup I made, but strained out most of the liquid and set it atop some broccoli slaw when I heated it, adding cheese and the last corn on the cob.
Some fresh cool cucumber was good with that too.

I had recorded a Hallmark movie to watch, Wedding Bells. It was boring! I scanned through it watching just highlights and the end. Next was Miss USA beauty contest. (Just always so much gunk) Scanned through that too. Ah well..... Of course the girls I would have picked out of the 5 finalists, either Miss Georgia or Miss Hawaii, didn't win. Lots of comments on the internet about the contest being rigged. Surprise? No. Everything is political. Irritating.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.

Yo-Yo Day

Yo-Yo day is here...hooray! Not that you need an excuse to play with your Yo-Yo. Wherever you are today, get out your Yo-Yo and impress your friends, family, and co-workers with your Yo-Yo skills. And, do it at work today! If you don't think it's appropriate at work, consider the fact that three U.S. presidents (Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon) showed off their Yo-Yo expertise while in office!

It's origin is hard to factually prove. Many believe that the Yo-Yo originated in China as early as 500-1000 B.C. However, their is some evidence that it was first used in Greece even before this time. Over the centuries the Yo-Yo has had it's ups and downs (tee, hee).

The classic Yo-Yo was made wildly popular in America by businessman Donald F. Duncan Sr. He manufactured the "Duncan Yo-Yo" in the early 1900's.

Celebrate the Yo-Yo today by "walking the dog" or "shooting the moon", the most popular tricks.

Tucker's Little League Game ~ Police Activity ~ Sole Almondine ~ Little Big League ~ Dodgers ~ Gingerbread

Good 63º clear sunny morning. We hit 98º yesterday but it was cloudy and super humid. Today should be clear but about the same temp. Yesterday 3pm-ish:

Yesterday, thankfully before the heat, Tucker had his last of season little league game at 9am. Brian had set up a tent for Sami and her pals......

Here is Tucker and his base hit.....

Jen is the team mom and had set up a party for the kids.... goodies and pizza....

She even made baseball cards for each of the kids with their picture on it...

Brian had set up his State Farm pop up over the stands. Nice!! Then he moved it by the pergola where the party was...

I didn't stay for the party. Was getting hot and I wanted to get home and check on Bruiser. He stayed outside when I left but Dude was comfy inside with the AC on. On the way to the game on the southbound side of I-5 just north of Rogue River was heavy police activity. There was a pick up truck with it's doors open and about 6 or 8 radio cars... Oregon State Police, Grants Pass Police, and Rogue River PD. One of the OSP officers was walking along the edge of the road looking down and carrying an assault rifle. Obviously looking for someone who was possibly armed! On the way back home after 2 hours one OSP car was still there with the pick up.

So, I made sure I saw the news to find out what that was all about. Alas, nothing was mentioned on the news!

When I got home Bruiser was hanging out in the shade. He came in and slept for several hours. I looked up what rabies shots do to cats and in some it makes them very lethargic for up to 48 hours. Ah ha....I was wondering why he didn't want to go out first thing in the morning as he usually does, but he just napped until his breakfast. Then he slept most of the day. He did go out back once, and I looked and he was sleeping on the seat of my golf cart. This morning he's feeling back like his old self and was outside first thing!

On this day in 2004 a great loss ... Ronald Reagan died. RIP.

Later for dinner I cooked one of the Sole Almondine I got from Omaha Steaks and had the rest of the veggies from the Friday. Put sole in a 450º oven for 25 minutes. Voilá! How easy is that!
The sole as REALLY good and crunchy on the outside. Yes!!!

Then I watched a movie, Little Big League (1994).... A young little league player inherits the National League team from his grandfather, Minnesota Twins. It was a cute movie. On the Hallmark Channel.

Then I watched the Dodgers beat the Braves 4 to zip!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Sunday. Ciao.

National Gingerbread Day

This holiday is about bringing awareness of gingerbread to those who have not yet tried a version of gingerbread. Gingerbread is known for many food varieties. Everything from gingerbread "bread" to cookies and gingerbread houses.

Research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. However this holiday has been celebrated for years on this date. This is referred to as a "National" day, however there are no congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day. Still, something good to celebrate!

Bruiser AKA Casper ~ Errands & Subway ~ Omaha Order ~ Dude & Bruiser to Vets ~ Veggie Dinner ~ Hug Your Cat Day

Good 57º clear and sunny morning. We hit 97º yesterday and 103º is predicted for today. Joy.

Four years ago I posted this..... I called Bruiser "Casper" as he would show up to eat and then disappear......didn't know she was a he, either!:

Yesterday Harley wanted to go outside.... I reluctantly let him out the back door..he normally goes around the house, ends up on the front porch and wants in. I heard his weird howling and looked out to see 'Casper' and Harley face to face. I ran out and grabbed up Harley, as that young cat would tear up the old man! When I grabbed Harley he must have thought the other cat was attacking him and he screamed and claws were flying! OMG. 'Casper' hung out and had a bite to eat I set out for her in the bed of the golf cart. I managed to get a couple of pictures before she disappeared again....

I am so happy he's now Bruiser and spending time with me and his nights inside the house!

Yesterday morning I went into GP to take a flash drive and the old computer to Turk. He has the new one about done and wanted to transfer some of my stuff off the old one. Then to RR to get the gas can filled up. Was hungry so stopped at Subway for a flatbread breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon, cheese, and bell pepper. OMGOOOOOD!!!!

And, OINK, I also got a "raspberry cheesecake" cookie! Then as I was leaving Subway, UPS Dave said he had something for me. It was my Omaha Steak order. He thought since I was heading home it was better the frozen items went with me instead of waiting later for him to deliver it.

This order has Triple Berry Tartlets

Cheddar Cheese Hash Browns

Chicken in Pastry

Meatballs

Salmon Filets

Sole Almondine

and 2 free Top Sirloin steaks!
Free shipping too. Except for the steaks and the salmon, everything else stays frozen, no thawing, and goes directly into the oven. Easy peezy!!

So at 2pm we had an appointment with the vet for Dude's shot and Bruiser's shot. Always a joy getting Bruiser into the carry cage. Not. The vet assistants came in and took their temperatures, heart beat, and then the vet, Dr. Dickey came in and gave them an exam and their shots.

Bruiser gets nosey and has to check everything out!

Both of them are in great health and the vet was pleased.

Dinner was vegetables.... sauteéd mushrooms with some broccoli slaw, asparagus, and corn on the cob (slathered with Best Foods!). Hit the spot!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Saturday. Ciao.

Hug Your Cat Day

Go ahead and give your cat a big, furry hug.

Cat lovers can really get into this day. If you're a cat lover, you can really appreciate the warm, cozy feeling you get when you curl up on a couch or chair, and hug your cat. The only problem is, your cat will most likely only allow a brief hug before sauntering away. If your cat is a true hugger, count your blessings.

Dog lovers...sorry, but hugging your dog will not suffice. If you are going to be "into" this day, you simply must hug a cat...your cat.
You don't have a cat? You can correct this today. The month of June is "Adopt a Cat Month".

*I told Dr. Dickey it was Hug Your Cat Day today and he knew that. I also told him yesterday was Donut Day and how I loved Krispy Kreme. He agreed and asked if I knew where the closest KK was. I said Stockton. He said, there is on in Beverton, Oregon, which is near Portland and closer than Stockton!!!
