Yesterday was haircut day. Leah and I had fun chatting. She told me all about the romantic engagement to Jordan a week or so ago at the coast.  Sounded magical when he asked her to marry him (on knees with beautiful ring) and a rainbow appeared overhead! Wow. Sounds like Heaven was happy about that!

 

Then her BFF, Lisa Hannan, came in to visit. We are friends on FB but I had never met Mike's daughter-in-law. Pretty girl!!

 

Leah had been shopping earlier and saw a bottle of wine she thought I might like and gave it to me. It is Under The Tuscan Sun Sangiovese.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sangiovese

Funny, that movie Under The Tuscan Sun with Diane Lane is one of my favorite movies!!

 

So, then it was off to the post office and decided since it was National Pizza Pie Day I'd stop at Baci's in Rogue River and get a pizza...

I got an artichoke heart, green bell pepper, sun-dried tomato, and black olive pizza. YUMMMMM! I asked if the pizza crew knew it was National Pizza Pie Day and the owner (sorry, don't know his name) said I was the first one to recognize that so he gave me the pizza half price!!!! SO NICE. Thanks!

I came home, poured some yummy wine and had some super good pizza!!!! Thanks Leah! Thanks Baci's!

Umbrella Day

Umbrella Day is in honor of one of the world's most invaluable inventions. On a rainy, day, we are sure glad that someone was smart enough to invent it. It's also increasingly popular to use umbrellas to shade ourselves from harmful UV radiation, and the heat of the sun.

 

Umbrellas come in all sorts of sizes, colors, shapes, and, designs. Businesses and organizations use them for advertising. The smallest umbrellas fit inside a purse or glove compartment. Golf umbrellas are popular sizes. Then, there are lawn and beach umbrellas. There's one (or two) made just for you.  

 

Celebrate Umbrella Day in a couple of ways. First, make sure your umbrella is handy. Second, use it, or walk around with it. If you don't have an umbrella, isn't it time to get one?

But, it was frozen out there and when I went out the sun was melting the ice and the steam was rising....

Pizza Pie Day

Pizza is a baked pie of Italian origin consisting of a shallow bread-like crust covered with seasoned tomato sauce, cheese, and often other toppings such as sausage or olive. The word pizza is believed to be from an Old Italian word meaning "a point," which in turn became the Italian word "pizzicare," which means "to pinch" or "pluck."

The pizza could have been invented by the Phoenicians, the Greeks, Romans, or anyone who learned the secret of mixing flour with water and heating it on a hot stone.

In one of its many forms, pizza has been a basic part of the Italian diet since the Stone Age. This earliest form of pizza was a crude bread that was baked beneath the stones of the fire. After cooking, it was seasoned with a variety of different toppings and used instead of plates and utensils to sop up broth or gravies. It is said that the idea of using bread as a plate came from the Greeks who ate flat round bread (plankuntos) baked with an assortment of toppings. It was eaten by the working man and his family because it was a thrifty and convenient food

Guacamolé/Deviled Eggs/Taquitos ~ Brian & Jen's Super Bowl Party ~ My Photo On The News (again!) ~ Chinese New Years

Good 38º clear sunny morning. Wow, clear!

Yesterday, under the "supervision" of Bruiser (he has to lay by my feet and follow me to every cupboard and to the fridge!)  I started off hard boiling eggs and then made the guacamolé. I was SO ANGRY at the avocados! Out of 8 I purchased (3 from Safeway that are Calvados, and 5 from Rays... supposedly Hass, but grown in Mexico!   https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2015/02/18/2015-03289/mexican-hass-avocado-import-program ) only 4½ were any good! There were parts of the others I cut off and used, but for the most part, they SUCKED!!!

Anyway, got the good ones mashed, added sea salt, Weber Roasted Garlic seasoning, zest of one lemon and the juice. Then to increase the volume of the guac I added in half a can of drained diced tomatoes and half a can of diced mild chiles.

Tastes really good!

Next were the deviled eggs and then the taquitos.

For the taquitos I used 40 corn tortillas and 2½ pounds of lean ground beef. I mixed in about ½ cup of McCormick's taco seasoning....

Put 10 of the tortillas in a towel and heat in the microwave 35 seconds, turn them so the middle ones are on the top and bottom, and another 35 seconds. Keep them in the towel and work on one at a time... putting the meat on the edge and rolling up tight. Let them sit while you finish that batch.

Then fry them in hot oil until browned on each side...

Drain well on paper towels.....

Into the Crock*Pot the go, on warm....

Headed to Brian's for the game... He had borrowed a jumpy house for the kids from his pal... here is Tucker's best pal, Troy...

Sami was doing her aerobatics thing....

YEAH BRONCOS!! Everyone at their house was cheering for them! What a game!!!!!!

Lots of food and drinks, including beer and wine....

Jen made yummy cupcakes. A friend of theirs was celebrating his 50th birthday (on Super Bowl 50!) ...

All the food I took disappeared. Guess next year I'll have to make more! This little guy loved the taquitos. He had this one and it was still very warm. He blew through it and steam came out. It looked like he was smokin' a cigar!

I guesstimated there were 17 adults and just as many kids. All had a great time. The food also included chicken tenders, tater tots, meatballs, and ribs. Great job Jen and Brian!!!

Post game interview with Cam Newton, Panther's QB, showed what a bad sport he is! Good luck with that.

Chinese New Years

Chinese New Year 4714 - February 8, 2016, Monkey, a Yang year. Chinese Year 4715 - January 28, 2017. Rooster, a Yin year. Chinese Year 4716 - February 16, 2018, Dog, a Yang year.

It's the year of the Monkey, Chinese Zodiac animal figure. It is a Yang (Positive) year. The date of Chinese New Years changes every year.
