Smoke ~ Life's Lesson ~ 1932 Signal ~ Roasted Eggplant ~ Drone Over China ~ Deer ~ Sinfire

Good 53º smokey morning. Yesterday we hit 96º and the smoke never left. My mountain all but disappeared. Hard to breath outside! 90º was predicted, but it was 95º at 2:30. Pressure was dropping, but no radar. Just this ugly view of my mountain!
Today the prediction is for 103º. Joy.

This from my friend Pat Tracy.... a lesson in life:

Yesterday was a pain all morning. AOL and the whole computer was acting up. I was SO frustrated.  Took a drive into RR to pick up a package at the Post Office, brought my trash can and neighbor's in, stopped at PJ and Dave's. She had some cherry tomatoes she wanted to give me.

This is interesting... a photo taken in 1932 in 'Surry', but unknown what state. There are several... Interesting because it's probably one of the first, and notice how high the buttons are. Not available for anyone in a wheelchair!

Dinner was the eggplant, finally!
The 1/4"-1/2" slices were slathered with olive oil and sprinkled with garlic salt and pepper...
Then I slathered mayonnaise on half and the Creamy Garlic Sauce on the rest...
Next came the mozzarella cheese.....
I topped the cheese with some of the "crazy salad" veggie mixture (see blog August 11th.) You could also use marinara sauce, fire roasted diced tomatoes, pesto, or anything that floats your boat!
They were baked in a pre-heated 400º oven for 30-35 minutes. I generally have to cook a little longer here as the altitude is 1200 feet, and that makes a difference. Give them 20 minutes and then keep and eye on them, checking often.
Mayonnaise and the Weber Roasted Garlic & Herb seasoning was sprinkled on~ The tomatoes were some PJ gave me.

The eggplant was FABULOUS!!!! All I could do to keep from eating it all~!

Here is a vimeo video, pictures being taken by a drone while flying over parts of China. Beautiful scenery!

Later....TV, my chair, Hallmark 'A Ring By Spring"
and a few games of solitaire on my iPad. Sort of a sore throat coming on so gargled with 1/2 water and 1/2 apple cider vinegar. Really helps! Then a shot glass of Sinfire Whiskey to sip.
Made in Hood River Oregon!
No sore throat this morning!!!

In the early evening the doe was out back laying on the grass by a water tub. Earlier she was munching on grape leaves.....
Didn't see the fawns yesterday.

The buck was out first thing in the morning and he and the other doe didn't come back. I think the smoke was so horrible they were staying low. I know Bruiser was indoors all day. He didn't want to be out there either.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Tuesday. Ciao.

Brunch Tap Rock ~ Sami's Pictures ~ Deer Block ~ Fawns & Doe ~ Coquette Bread ~ Hill-Liar-y's Email ~ Erika ~ Lemon Drop Martini

Good 50º somewhat cloudy/smokey morning.

The temps weren't too high yesterday, I think the high 80ºs but the smoke came in here heavy by afternoon. The smoke makes for pretty sunsets.... the only good thing! 8:15pm:
Yesterday morning I headed into Grants Pass to to meet Brian Jen Tucker and Sami at Tap Rock for brunch. OINK!!!!

The Rogue River, Caveman Bridge, Tap Rock on the left...

Sami's monster waffles, whip cream, chocolate syrup, sausage, and roll.

Brian's scrambled eggs, bacon, and biscuit and gravy...

Poor Tucker, hasn't eaten in a week!

Jen's oatmeal and strawberries....

Bobo's vegetarian omelette and fruit. (YUMMMMMM!)

Sami wanted to take pictures with my camera.... she had fun. So I made a Smilebox of her pictures....

I came back to RR and stopped in at Ace to get some deer blocks.
The deer love them... something to nibble on. When I got here the momma deer and two of her fawns were inside my front yard. How those babies got over the fence is the question. I walked towards the gate, mom bolted over the fence, and I opened the gate. The fawns were in a panic. I walked to the back door and when I came through the house and looked out the babies were with their mom!

I put out a deer block in the front by the water tub and one in the back on the grass... When I got up this morning the buck was nibbling on the one in the back.
In the afternoon I looked out and momma doe and one baby were in the yard. I finally figured out how the babies get in the yard... they go through the big openings in the fence!

Baby started nursing on mom, taken through the porch rail, you can see how the mom's skin/fur looks really bad.....

The bread loaf I bought at 7 Oaks Farm the other day comes from a local Central Point bakery. If you live in this area you can purchase the bread, not only at 7 Oaks, but also at Rogue Creamery, Ashland and Medford Farmers Markets...

Check their home page... and then check the breads they make:
This came from email pal, Gator...... Hill-liar-y's emails...

After chores I made a lemon drop martini... this time on the rocks. No typical sugar coated rim. UGH. Too sweet. But, this mix is really GOOD!

Wasn't hungry for dinner so had some veggie chips with my martini. Chair time. TV. Blue Bloods and a Hallmark movie
All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.
