Good 44º clear and sunny morning.

 

Boy howdy, stayed cold all day yesterday. Only in the 50ºs all morning and then a slow rise to the 60ºs. . Burrrrrrr..... Then warmed to the low 70ºs. Then got cold again and I turned on the heater!

Today is the Memorial Day ceremony with a flyover. Last year they said the budget from the air wing couldn't afford to send jets so they had some antique planes fly by.

 

I was sitting here at my desk having my morning cup of tea and Dude and the Bruise were watching out the door, for what I don't know, but they were next to each other.... odd. 

 

 

Yesterday for breakfast I had a rerun of a former dinner... gnocchi with yams and mushrooms...

See, a lot of you ask what in the world do I do with all the food I cook... divide it up into zip bags and put in the freezer for a later meal. Dinner reruns are always good for breakfast!

 

Yesterday I cleaned out my spice cupboard and tossed out a BUNCH of old spices. Bag was HEAVY! Now the cupboard looks better and I can see what's in there!

 

 

Today is a special birthday... Suzanne Santisteven. She was a Deputy at Lakewood when I worked there. She married Phil, a Deputy also at Lakewood, had a baby girl, Alyssa, and quit the department to be a mom. Phil retired and they have a small ranch now in Idaho. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUZ!!!!!

Brian came over yesterday and was looking for a special type of drill bit to work on his recently acquired 1962 Chevy Step Van.....  He didn't find the bit, but he found several other things he can use in his shop. YES!!!! 

Dinner started with a box of Velveeta Cheesy Skillets..

I sauteéd some mushrooms with butter and a little olive oil and garlic...

Cleaned and sliced some of the sweet peppers...

Steamed some green beans and cut up chicken thighs...

Sauteéd the chicken pieces.....

Cooked the noodles and added everything into the pan along with the sauce....

VERY good, especially with the added vegetables!

Memorial Day

Today is not only Memorial Day, but it's also Wine Day!

Good 48º cloudy morning.

Yesterday was the Boatnik Parade in Grants Pass. I would have liked to go, but thought it would be better to do stuff here.  

Breakfast ... I sauteéd some sliced mushrooms in butter and a drizzle of olive oil. Added in some of Cliff's smoked pork. Then poured in egg whites (from a carton). Let that all cook. Dished it up and topped with mozzarella cheese. A side of Greek yogurt with tomatoes.

...and, sadly, my sister Marion died on this day in 2004. She had adult onset leukemia. Kristen and I got to visit with her in the second week of April and about two weeks later she was in the hospital and on morphine heavily sedated. I miss her so. Here's a picture of me with my sisters on June 14, 1975.... Betty on the left and Marion on the right.

We were best friends. She was 9 years older than me, the baby sister, and she always had to take me along ....

 

 

RIP dear sister of mine.

Yesterday three deer were relaxing in the shade up in the upper pasture....

My neighbor, Gerard, was cutting his pastures... after it's been turned and dried he will bale it.

When I go into my bathroom I am usually accompanied by Bruiser. This strange guy LOVES warm water. So I run the water and fill a cup for him.... "Warm water", really? Odd.

Yesterday afternoon I sat on the porch and ate sunflower seeds and drank wine. The birds were out...

The clouds never really went away yesterday...

I guess it was nice for the Boatnik parade.

Watching the news last night and Mike Hannan's (former Rogue River Fire Chief) grandson Zac Hannan was on! It was a shot of him running the hurdles at the state finals in Eugene... He also ran the 100 and broke his record (10.76) and Grants Pass High School's record and took third. Third fastest person in the state of Oregon in the 100!!! AND his school took 1st place in the finals!!!!

National Escargot Day (I don't think so, Tim!)

National Escargot Day is celebrated each year on May 24th.  This day is in honor of the famous French dish of cooked land snails. Escargot is a delicious dish, enjoyed by many, however it is an acquired taste.  It is usually served as an appetizer in French restaurants.

Escargot {es.kar.go} is the French word for snail.

The dish of Escargot is usually prepared by removing the land snails from their shells, cooking them with garlic, butter and wine, then placing them back into their shells, with the sauce, for serving.  You are then provided with a special snail tong and snail fork for your use.

Escargot are high in protein and low in fat (without the butter).
