My Christmas Cactus is getting ready to break out in blooms! It never blooms for Christmas, usually for Halloween-Thanksgiving or Easter!

On my blog from a year ago today, I spotted Bruiser up in the pasture hunting! We hadn't become friends and I thought he was a she. (Taken 11-3-11)

Today is a special birthday of a special friend, Berta (as she goes by now..Bobbe) Sommer. We became friends back in about 1965 when George and I lived in an apartment at 908 S. Margarita Avenue in Alhambra. I recall looking out the window facing the parking lot and here was a very pregnant woman cleaning out a black 1957 Chevy Nomad! I though her husband must be a monster to make a pregnant woman do that! Later, of course, I learned that when you are pg, you have tons of energy and do stuff like that! LOL. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BERTA~!!!!

Remember this place Berta...... found this on Google Maps!

Sunday, Nov 4th 8pm........

We've got a major problem....
Tomorrow, National Geographic Channel will begin broadcasting "Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden," even after reporting by the New York Times and other media outlets disclosed that the timing and editing of the film by Obama mega-donor and Hollywood liberal Harvey Weinstein were orchestrated to use the heroic work of U.S. Special Operations Forces to promote President Obama's re-election. OPSEC's not going take this sitting down.

“OPSEC is a vital element in protecting the Army’s soldiers and missions, and I want to stress how vital a role every member of the team plays in ensuring that we deny our
adversaries potentially useful information.
“Whether we are on duty or off duty, we cannot afford to let our guard down. Your diligence in OPSEC is key to ensuring our effectiveness in operations and our collective safety.
Together, we will succeed.”
Maj. Gen. Keith B. Alexander
Commanding General
U.S. Army Intelligence

DON'T FORGET TO SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK WHEN YOU GO TO BED TONIGHT!

Still working on the "stitching"...

My friends Trish & John Bowler (LASD ret) just became grandparents for the first time! Baby Isabella, against the wishes of her mom Debbie, was born on Halloween! Not to worry Debbie, I have a Halloween baby too and it's all good!

Congratulations to grandparents all, to Kevin and Debbie, and aunt and uncles! She is ADORABLE!!!

Shopping the other day I found skinless boneless chicken thighs ("product of the United States" !) on sale in 3-4 pound packages. The cost was $3.79 per pound, BUT if you bought one package you got the second one free. That's $1.89 per pound. I got two, of course. Then yesterday morning I added some green enchilada sauce to the crockpot, added one package of the thighs, and turned that baby on to high for 8 hours.

Later I cooked some quinoa, adding rinsed black beans, habañero pepper, onion ... salt and pepper.......to the crockpot, covered with water and when done cooking I stirred in a can of refried beans..... heating through.

I served it with the chicken (soooo good and tender... fell apart) and poured over some of the enchilada sauce.... Awesome!

One anniversary today, 22 years Ann and Gabe Ramirez (both LASD ret) .... HAPPY ANNIVERSARY KIDS!

Book Lovers Day - first Saturday of the month

Sandwich Day

The annals of English history report that John Montagu was the 4th Earl of Sandwich. Among other things, the 4th Earl of Sandwich was a heavy gambler. Montagu often spent many long hours in London's gambling parlors. In 1762, he created the sandwich, by putting meat between two pieces of bread. This allowed him to remain at the gambling table for long periods of time. Obviously, the sandwich was named after him
