Another trip to the ER ~ Popcorn ~ Repeal Day

Good 28º morning. Was 27º earlier, but I slept in!

To go back to Saturday night... Harley was on my lap and Atlas was being curious. Harley has no patience for the big guy and has smacked his nose on occasion. Well Atlas got too close and Harley went ballistic! Trouble was I was there and he dug his claws into my left thigh. When he went airborne it felt as if he tore the top of my thigh off! OMG. Pain like I couldn't have imagined! Well, put some triple antibiotic cream on the leg. No blood. About 3am I woke up in excruciating pain. The leg. I spent the whole day sitting in my chair with ice on the thigh. Brian and Jen and the kids were due home about 4:30 from Portland so I put granddog in the car and met them at their house....

Then I went to the ER at Three Rivers in GP to see about a tetanus shot.

Amazing as this sounds, I was in and out of there in 1 hour! The doc said there wasn't really anything to treat, but to look for infection. I did the right thing with the antibiotic cream and ice and she recommended more ice and ibuprofen if needed and she gave me a tetanus shot. The whole thigh in the knee area is black, blue, purple, yellow, etc.

 How bizarre, the whole situation! Anyway, another low key day with an ice pack......still horribly painful. Weird.

The good thing is Tucker and Sami had a great time on the Polar Express and saw Santa!

 

I had chatted with Patty when I came home from the ER and she was having popcorn for dinner. I did stop at the market and got lettuce, romaine, and tomatoes and shrimp for a salad, but the popcorn sounded good!

 ... oh my good! Wine, popcorn, my chair, fire in the wood stove, Maggie napping on the floor, and Mr. Harley gently on my lap! Sometimes life is very fine.

I had to laugh, the nurse at Three Rivers, Diana, was fun. Close to my age, single, and from Glendale Ca originally. She had to ask me a number of questions and one was, "Is anyone abusing you at home?" (a new tactic to ferret out abused women) ".. other than your cat!" I laughed at that! She said she was heading home and putting a fire in her wood stove, pouring a wine, and relaxing in her chair! See Jeannie, another SOW Sista!

Repeal Day - The 21st Amendment ends Prohibition. I'll drink to that!

While Repeal Day certainly is a day to have a drink in celebration of our rights and freedoms, we should always remember to drink responsibly.

Good 30º morning.

What a dull gloomy cold (warmed to 36º) day yesterday was. I stayed in all day working on my Christmas projects.

I talked to Kristen and she told me her power finally came back on yesterday ... 50 hours after it went off at midnight on the 1st. She lost most in her fridge and freezer except what was taken to a friend's house. She said driving around the area is frightening. Trees uprooted along with sidewalks. Hot wires down and neighborhoods cut off. The parks are in ruins with so many trees down and power poles snapped off. Signal lights not working and still power off to so many and won't be on until Monday or Tuesday. Businesses shut down. Here are the leaves stacked up against her slider, the ones her little pup had to jump through to get out....

....and her fence that was blown over....

Kristen said she cleaned up the leaves in her yard and filled 13 huge trash bags! She needed Gary down there to suck them up with his lawn tractor!

Then I talked to my traveling friend, Joan, who lives in Palm Desert. She's in the hospital recovering from hip replacement surgery. What a deal. She's in a LOT of pain. Will take a while for her recovery.

National Cookie Day

Pink Caddie ~ Atlas ~ Earmuffs

Good 31º foggy morning.

Yesterday I headed out to Jeannie's for our 'Toy Story' marathon. I had to laugh, there was this mini Cadillac and it was PINK! (Gag)

Got to Jeannie's and she and Donna and I attempted to watch the DVDs, but to no avail... Sum ting wus wong. Couldn't get them to play on the 'blue ray' player! Sigh. We tried everything and pushed every button!! So, in the long run we did have a great afternoon, chatting, drinking wine, eating goodies. Dee and Jo Ann couldn't make it  :o(  but we will attempt another girl's get together again soon! Jeannie made this awesome cheese/green chili bake. We had dip and chips. I took one of my favorite snacks...     Jeannie made a hot chicken/cheese dip and I took the pretzel/chex/candy corn/chocolate stuff I had made for Halloween. It was gobbled up!

Jeannie's home is decorated for Christmas with decorations in every room. There is a singing Christmas tree in the bathroom that goes off when you walk in! Too fun. Tree was beautiful and she was turning on all these musical decorations... way up high on the top of the room divider...

I left there and stopped at Brian and Jen's. Got some Tucker and Sami lovin'. Picked up Atlas 
 









and brought him home for a couple of days while they are off to Portland and the 'Polar Express'

Earmuffs Day

(Ha ha ha... looks like Chaka!)

Chester Greenwood (1858-1937) made his first pair of "ear protectors" when he was 15 years old. He was granted a patent in 1877 and established an entirely new industry in his hometown of Farmington, Maine, where he continued to refine the design and manufacture of what we now know as earmuffs. By 1918 he was making 216,000 pairs a year, and by 1932 checks and plaids were added to the standard black velvet covering.

Although Greenwood was involved in a number of other business ventures in Farmington and was granted his last patent—for a tempered steel lawn rake—only a few months before he died, it is for his ear protectors that he is primarily remembered. Farmington residents celebrate Chester Greenwood Day on the first Saturday in December (Greenwood was born on December 4) with a parade, flag-raising ceremony, and a foot race. Everyone is encouraged to wear earmuffs for the festivities, including pets.
